Abstract

技术领域
本发明针对用于识别计算机和远程可控配电单元(PDU)之间的电力连接的系统和方法,并且在一个实施例中针对用于识别远程可控PDU和具有冗余电源的计算机之间的电力连接的系统和方法。
背景技术
由于计算机场中服务器和各种电连接器(例如,PDU的电力连接器和数据连接器)之间的电缆的数目,需要大量的时间和努力来跟踪什么电缆与什么服务器互连。此外,当部件故障或当电缆和连接器重新配置时,存在描述连接的信息可变成过期的显著的可能性。
发明内容
根据本发明的一个方面,提供一种配电单元控制系统,其包括:可连接到多个馈电条(power strip)的多个电力接口,所述多个馈电条待连接到多个服务器,所述多个服务器中的每个具有服务器管理控制器和至少两个电源;通信端口,用于发送命令以关闭所述多个馈电条中的至少一个馈电条;控制器,用于响应于所述多个馈电条中的所述至少一个馈电条关闭而从所述服务器管理控制器接收信息以及用于将所述多个服务器中的对应服务器与所述多个馈电条中的所述至少一个馈电条关联。

具体实施方式
计算机服务器、电源和配电单元(PDU)都典型地容置于设备机架中。由于管理的原因对于服务器所有人知道服务器位于哪个机架和它连接到哪个或哪些PDU受控的电源是可取的。通过观察进入服务器的电力,PDU控制系统可以自动跟踪服务器的电力连接以及因此跟踪位置。通过利用具有双电源和内部电力监测硬件的服务器,当PDU关闭馈电条或独立受控的电力出口时该服务器可以检测它的电源中的每个的状态。服务器的管理控制器然后确定它的电源中的任一个是否已经关闭。如果电源中的一个已经关闭,那么PDU控制系统可以记录该服务器连接到哪个电源,并且如果已知PDU位于哪个机架中,还可以指示服务器位于哪个机架中。
如在图1和2中示出的,PDU控制系统控制PDU 110并且与服务器100的服务器管理控制器140(例如,IPMI控制器)通信。该PDU控制系统可实现为硬件(包括控制器)或为硬件和用于控制该硬件的软件的组合。在使用硬件和软件的组合的实施例中,软件在一部分硬件(例如,担当控制器的处理器)上运行并且被读入数字存储器(例如,RAM)以控制控制器的操作。软件还控制由硬件响应于正由该硬件接收的电信号而传送一部分电信号。
通过它的连接,PDU控制系统可以跟踪并且管理电源和连接到这些电源的服务器的位置。PDU110从PDU控制系统接收命令(例如,在通信端口(例如,串行端口、无线接口、以太网端口))以关闭PDU通过多个电力接口中的一个连接到的馈电条120(图1)或电力出口130(图2)。进而,在服务器的管理控制器140上运行的软件(或服务器的管理控制器140自身的硬件)检测电源什么时候由于馈电条120或电力出口130的关闭而关闭。服务器的管理控制器140可以由PDU控制系统查询,或者控制器140可以发送通知给PDU控制系统指示哪个电源失去电力。(因为管理控制器典型地设置成发送故障通知(如果电源失去电力),在位置/连接测试期间系统可暂时停用正常通知以便避免“二次报告”失去电力。)服务器管理控制器发送的(或可以由PDU控制系统查询的)服务器管理信息优选地包含唯一识别该服务器的信息,例如它的序列号或MAC地址等。
PDU控制系统还可以确定连接到单个服务器的两个电源是否由相同的PDU控制。在该情况下,PDU控制系统可建议系统管理员改变电力连接以便增加电力独立性和冗余度。
关闭电源可牵涉关闭所有输出电压。备选地,如果电源允许这样,并且如果服务器另外正常地操作,电源的特定电压可以被切断使得仅必不可少的电压发送给服务器,但服务器管理控制器可以检测电压中的一个的失去。如果非必不可少的电压可以关闭并且由服务器和它的管理控制器容许,使用与单个电源相同的技术也是可能的。例如,电源可供应+5V、+12V和-12V给计算机。如果这些电压中的一个(例如,-12V)不是必不可少的,那么该电压(-12)的失去将不扰乱计算机的整体操作但将允许计算机检测到它的电压中的一个的失去,其可以用于确定哪个电源连接到哪个连接器或电缆。
在再另一个实施例中,不间断电源可被插在出口和服务器之间。在这样的配置中,该不间断电源还连接到服务器的外围连接器(例如,USB连接器),并且该不间断电源配置成跨越该外围连接器(例如,使用基于USB的消息)报告失去到服务器的电力。
一般,通过在电源上引起可测量的扰动(disturbance),可以将PDU受控电源与特定设备机架内的特定服务器关联。
如在图3中示出的,配电单元可以集成进入PDU控制系统而不在外部与其连接。在这样的配置中,PDU控制系统内部发送它的命令以控制馈电条和/或出口。在这样的配置中,除上文描述的其他端口外,通信端口可包括内部总线。
如在图4中示出的,PDU控制系统反复控制一个或多个配电单元以控制多个馈电条或电力出口。根据该过程,选择PDU的第一馈电条(其推广至独立受控的电力出口),并且PDU关闭该馈电条。然后检查服务器的服务器管理器信息(例如,通过查询个体服务器管理器或处理来自服务器管理器的输入故障报告)以确定哪个电源失去电力。然后将该馈电条与在服务器管理器信息中识别的服务器关联。然后可以选择下一个馈电条,并且该过程可以对所有馈电条重复。如果PDU控制系统控制多个PDU,那么PDU控制系统可以对它控制的PDU中的每个重复图4的步骤。

Claims (7)
1.一种配电单元控制系统,其包括:

通信端口,用于发送命令以关闭所述多个馈电条中的至少一个馈电条;
控制器,用于响应于所述多个馈电条中的所述至少一个馈电条关闭而从所述服务器管理控制器接收信息以及用于将所述多个服务器中的对应服务器与所述多个馈电条中的所述至少一个馈电条关联。

7.如权利要求1所述的配电单元控制系统,其中所述服务器管理控制器包括IPMI控制器。
