Description
Process for the production of airtight and watertight packaging material. The present invention is a process for the production of airtight and watertight packaging material, which is, inter alia, ideally suited for wrapping food and luxury items that must be withdrawn from the action of the surrounding atmosphere.
The main ones that come into consideration are: tea, coffee, coffee surrogates, vanilla, certain types of cereal products that are particularly sensitive to moisture, etc. This process consists in dipping fibrous substances in leaf form in a resin bath and then putting them on both sides covered with a non-sticky layer.
All types of paper and fabric, as well as cardboard, can be used as fibrous substances in sheet form.
Depending on the type of use of the finished packaging material, either paper, cardboard or fabric will be used for the non-sticky layer. In certain cases, however, you will be content to provide the resin layer with a coating of finely pulverized substances, such as sand, tallow or chalk flour. This packaging material can be manufactured as follows, for example. Paper sheets are immersed in a rosin bath that has been heated in some harmless way, for example by steam or electricity. Before the coating is completely hard again, the paper sheet is covered on both sides with a new sheet and the whole thing is dried in this way.
If you want to achieve a certain suppleness in the packaging, you have to make sure that the rosin does not harden completely. This can be achieved by adding oil and paraffin to the rosin bath.
If a special toughness of the packaging is required, the paper is covered on both sides with a fine fabric, made of cotton cloth, for example. It can also happen, if the packaging material is not to come onto the market with a special cover, that the fibrous substance in sheet form, i.e. paper or tissue for example, is covered on one side with cardboard, on the other side with paper or tissue, after passing the rosin bath.
The packaging material can also be manufactured in a pirate manner: The resin bath is then made of rosin in a volatile solvent, alcohol for example. After the fibrous substance in sheet form has been placed in it, it is covered with a sticky layer before the solvent evaporates. This volatilization can be promoted, for example, through Vakurun.
