Da der Exponent f! der Formel für die Hyster@eseverltrste bei den für Fernsprech- strÖnre in Frage kommenden Frequenzen und schwachen Induktionen, wie unsere Versuche gezeigt haben, Werte zwischen 2,0 bis etwa ,7 besitzt, ist m tets nur etwa 10-17 ;
'., grösser als 2. Für eine starke Verkleinertu;g von d-ch Vergri-,sserung des Eisenvolu mens V rnüfite dieses daher Werte anneh men, die weit über der praktischen Ausführ barkeit liegen. Znr Verkleinerung vorn i muss daher angestrebt werden, dass e:n Eisen- rnaterial mit genügend kleiner Verlustziffer verwendet werden kann.
Core material for magnetization cores, preferably for self-induction coils for loading telephone lines. R, C and A mean resistance, capacitance and derivative per unit length of a telephone line loaded with self-induction coils to reduce its specific attenuation, the self-inductance of which can be neglected compared to that of the coils, and W and L mean the effective resistance and self-inductance of a coil, where one coil is required for s length units,
as is well known, the specific attenuation of the telephone line
EMI0001.0006
The reduction of ss aimed for by increasing L is therefore not only affected by the 2nd summand of the formula, but also by the fact that at the same time - also with the increase in the self-inductance per unit length to the amount
EMI0001.0010
the resistance R by the proportion
EMI0001.0011
the effective coil resistance is increased. The effective resistance of the coils should therefore be as small as possible.
However, since the weight and thus the costs of the load increase quite disproportionately with the iron types previously used for coil production with the reduction of W, it has proven expedient to build the coils as far as possible so that the amount of
EMI0001.0013
depending on the value of R does not exceed 10 to about 50 / o of this value, the upper limit, actually too high, which was used for telephone lines with a diameter of 3 mm, was due to the fact that smaller values of W were only due to a a very immense increase in the weight of the bobbin would have been achieved.
The possibility of being able to make the effective coil resistance per unit of self-inductance with the same or even smaller coil weight less than before is therefore of great technical importance, especially for telephone lines of low resistance. The present invention enables this.
The effective resistance of the coils is made up of the pure line resistance Ws to be measured with direct current, the coil weight and an additional amount - @, which, if P3 is the specific watt loss through llyster,
es and eddy currents in the iron core with the volume V means, for which the effective strength i of the alternating current is defined by
EMI0002.0022
While it is relatively easy to bring the line resistance to a desired low value by using the appropriate cross-section of the winding wire,
if the C @ rölie and the gray weight of the bobbin also increase to accommodate the winding, the additional amount /! the achievement of the same goal ent against considerable difficulties, since it is necessary to find a suitable iron material for the coil cores with sufficiently small loss constants.
The specific watt loss in iron due to hysteresis and eddy currents during induction B and the number of periods v is namely in the known representation P.-v, i, Bil, 1_v2.y., B._ where B is the maximum value occurring during AC magnetization the induction is, VJ and x mean the material constants for the hysteresis losses and y- mean that for the eddy current losses.
Within the limits of B that are considered for practical coil construction, this formula can be replaced as closely as possible by P = a v, B "z where av < / I> and m are material constants that only apply for a certain number of periods v and for a certain degree of subdivision of the iron.
From the known formula for the self-inductance of the coil
EMI0002.0052
where N is the number of turns, q is the iron cross-section of the coil core, 1 is the mean line of force length and <e is the permeability of the iron, and from the formula for the maximum value of the induction in the coil core

follows by eliminating N and because q 1 = V,

With the effective strength i is
EMI0002.0066
Since the exponent f! the formula for the hysteresis residuals at the frequencies and weak inductions in question for telephone lines, as our experiments have shown, has values between 2.0 to about .7, is always only about 10-17;
'., greater than 2. For a strong reduction of the d-ch increase in the iron volume, this should therefore assume values that are far beyond practical feasibility. In order to reduce the front i, the aim must be that e: n ferrous material can be used with a sufficiently small loss factor.
As the formula shows, the value in front of i is also reduced by reducing the permeability of the iron material; At the same time, however, so that the self-inductance of the coil does not decrease, either the number of turns of the winding and thus the line resistance Wgl or, if it is kept constant, the coil weight must be increased because of the thicker winding wire then to be used.
There is therefore a most favorable way for the permeability, with your for a given time constant
EMI0003.0001
the spool weight becomes a minimum.
The variation of lc with a fixed loss figure shows that this optimum of the permeability value is only slightly pronounced with small time constants (approximately up to 0.025 seconds), but is constant with increasing time but within an increasingly narrower range. For an iron with a low loss factor, the limits of this range for the self-inductance values that occur in practical coil construction are from about 0.10 to 0.25 henry up to a time constant of about 0.04 seconds approximately at the values of 80 and 150 , for higher values of the time constants are around 80 and 110.
The very small magnetic field strengths in the coil cores are always the so-called initial permeability of the material.
Our attempts were therefore aimed at finding a material that can be produced at the same time as initial permeabilities within the specified limits if the values obtained so far for the loss factor av are as little as possible. As a result of these experiments, a 'material was found which consists of an alloy of carbon and other impurities free iron with nickel.
Iron-nickel alloys with a carbon content of about 0.2 to 0.670 are well known in technology as nickel steels. However, they show very considerable losses of hysteresis.
By lowering the carbon content to about 0.09 to 0.06%, on the other hand, as our experiments have shown, the addition of nickel has the property of significantly lowering the hysteresis losses of iron without at the same time (as is the case, for example, with transformer and dynamo sheets known iron-silicon alloys is the case) to increase the initial permeability.
Rather, this can be suppressed as desired by increasing the addition of nickel and therefore varied within the limits given above. Since the addition of nickel also significantly worsens the conductivity of the iron, the eddy current losses also decrease.
As an exemplary embodiment - a nickel iron manufactured by us should be mentioned, which is made from practically pure iron of approximately 0.08% C, 0.020 /, Si, 0.20 / 0 Mtlt 0.02% P and 0.02% S with approximately 8 " / o there is added nickel.
The loss factor a v of this alloy is less than 1 / s that of unalloyed iron with the same number of periods and the same subdivision. The initial permeability is approximately 135.
With cores made of this alloy, self-induction coils, which have a self-inductance of 0.15 henry and a time constant of 0.04 seconds at 800 periods and 0.5 milliamperes load current, weigh only about 3.5 kg, while self-induction coils carried out with the same electrical constants whose cores are made of unalloyed steel wire with a weight of about 0.15% weigh 10; 5 kg.
How the material to build the 11I 'agnetization cores is divided; d. b. whether it is used in disc, tape, wire or powder form is immaterial to the invention. The material can be used with the same advantages as for load coils for all magnetization cores in which only weak magnetizing forces occur and where it is important to have the highest possible time constant with the lowest possible weight, i.e. H. to achieve the smallest possible losses.
