Nut with fixing washer. The present invention relates to a nut with washer carried by the nut, having the particular feature that the washer has claws directed from outside inward and intended to be for tightening the nut, pushed or forced into the thread of the nut. bolt receiving the nut.
so as to bite into the bolt, the washer being on the other hand assembled to the nut by connecting means allowing the parts to rotate relative to one another before said claws are forced into the thread of the bolt, and the nut being, after tightening, prevented from turning (beyond the limits of the play that may exist in the means of connection between the nut and the washer) as a result of its connection with the washer immobilized on the bolt by the engagement of its claws with the thread of the latter.
The washer being, when the nut is tightened, fixed to the bolt to such an extent that finally it can neither turn around it nor move axially on it, it follows that the tightened nut can turn in moving along the thread more than the clearance in the connection between the nut and the washer allows, so that the nut is prevented from loosening.
In the attached drawing, given by way of example, Fig. 1 is a side elevation and FIG. 2, a view from below of a first embodiment of the object of the invention FIG. 3 is an elevation taken at a right angle to FIG. 1, representing the nut with the ron delle in position on the titi bolt; .
Fig. 4 and 5 are, respectively, a side elevation and a view from below of another embodiment of the object of the invention; Fig. 6 and 7 are, respectively, a plan and a section, turned upside down, of a third embodiment of the object of the invention; Fig. 8, 9 and 10 relate to a variant of the latter embodiment, FIG. 8 and 10 being, respectively, an elevation part in section and a view from below of the nut without washer, while fig. 9 is an elevation, also partly in section, of the hook with the washer assembled therein, ready for use.
In the embodiment of FIGS. 1 to 3, the nut c4 is provided with a groove, b, extending around the outer faces of the nut. The annular washer c, intended to prevent the key from loosening the nut, is provided with teeth or claws, c '.
directed from outside to inside, of the well-known Fastnut type (see for example the prior French patent N 488611, of January 25, 191.5) and which are, when the nut is fully screwed against a fixed surface (fig. ' ), forced into the thread of the bolt t, so that the washer is fixed in the air 'box. the washer is also provided with an ear les,% 1_,
lifted and curved inward, to enter the throat b. The nut, as seen, is normally free to rotate independently of the lock washer c; but the latter is held on to the nut and greed with it on the bolt due to the engagement of the ears d in the throat b. When the lock washer has secured itself to the bolt by means of its grif fes,
the nut inserted parably connected with the washer will be prevented from moving on the bolt beyond the limits of the play which may exist in the connecting means b, d, between the nut and the washer. In the embodiment of FIGS. 4 and 5, the nut a is wrinkled circularly, at a 'and the lock washer c is introduced into the circular recess so that the face of the washer (considered distinct from the grif fes%') is approximately flush. the underside of the nut.
The washer c is secured in the recess by means of a covering ring, e, fitted with hooking ears, e ', penetrating into grooves f made on two opposite faces of the hexagon nut . Advantageously, this covering ring is pinned to the nut a, as indicated at h, these pins do not engage in the washer c.
The ring e turns with the nut ca and central opening, e =, gives passage to the claws c 'of the washer. The washer c is normally free to rotate in the circular recess, so that when the nut is engaged with the bolt and aimed at it, the washer c can advance without rotating. But, when the grif fes c 'have been forced into the thread of the bolt, the lock washer c is fixed to the bolt so that it cannot move around or along this bolt, but holds the nut because of its connection with the latter, within the limits,
which was discussed above, the axial play existing between it and him.
Fig. 6 and 7 relate to a single embodiment in which, as seen in FIG. 7, the claw lock washer c is estanr pée a slightly convex shape before being forced and spread in a circular recess beveled to fit into the nut. The bevelled walls re-entering the recess thus hold the washer in place, but allow a relative rotational movement between the nut and the washer, until the latter is fixed to the nut as in the preceding arrangements. .
In the embodiment of FIGS. 8 to 1Ï_1, the nut a also has a circular recess, a '=, à. annular retaining lip and an oblique slot, y, formed in the faces of the nut and opening onto the underside of the latter, communicates with this recess. This slit or incision leaves a horn, gl, protruding from the underside of the nut. _1 through the slot g, orr slides the washer c into the recess.
We can close the slot g by folding the horn g1 in any way, as seen in fig. 9, after the washer c has been slid into the recess a, so as to retain the washer in the recess made in the underside of the nut.
When the nut is screwed onto the fixed surface on which it is to be tightened, and the underside of the nut begins to, come into contact with this fixed surface, the slot d becomes also closes due to the fact that the, corrrey 'is pushed back into place. 8i one wishes, one can provide two slots and two diametrically opposed horns to each other.
