Es ist sehr aufwändig das Filterelement herzustellen und verteuert damit die Herstellung des Filters. Das Kerzenfilter selbst ist nicht zum Einbau in einen Druckbehälter vorgesehen. Beim bekannten Filter sind alle Rohre mit einem Filtermantel versehen und an ihren Enden mit dem äusseren Filtermantel thermisch verschweisst. Quer verlaufende Kunststoffstränge bilden die Verbindung der Filterelemente untereinander. Eine solche Konstruktion kann nicht für die lose Bespannung mit einem Filtergewebe verwendet werden, da das Gewebe bei der Beaufschlagung mit Druck von aussen Falten bildet und somit beschädigt wird. Ausserdem lässt sich bei dieser Konstruktion nur ein Flüssigaustrag durchführen. Ein Feststoffaustrag ist nicht möglich.
