[0001] The present invention relates to a system of incineration of undifferentiated waste.
[0002] In particular, the invention relates to an incineration system capable of combustion even in severe environmental conditions.
[0003] In the sector of the disposal of undifferentiated waste, such as urban solid waste or those similar to urban solids, incinerators and disposal plants are known which schematically present a combustion chamber into which the waste to be incinerated is introduced, and ducts of air and gas supply and smoke emission.
[0004] These plants or equipment operate in normal environmental conditions, and in the presence of equipment and services that allow for effective combustion of waste, called urban waste because of its characteristic of being produced in the city.
[0005] In "difficult" environmental conditions both climatically and due to the isolation in which it may be necessary to provide for disposal, the problem of the systematic and ecologically correct disposal of unsorted waste is not currently solved.
[0006] In the case, for example (purely indicative) of high altitude mountaineering expeditions, the so-called base camp is organized, where groups of people who inevitably produce, during their stay, various types of waste kind.
[0007] These wastes are generically undifferentiated solid waste, and have a calorific value generally higher than that of the waste of our cities given the prevalence of paper and plastic materials, the air itself is extremely dry and the humidity of the waste is low .
[0008] The calorific value of the aforementioned waste was estimated on average between 4000 and 4500 kcal / kg, and it was calculated that a person, at the base camp, generates about 0.35 kg of waste per day.
[0009] Consider that the presence on the Baltoro glacier, in Pakistan, is estimated at 3,000 people a year between mountaineers and hikers, while at Everest base camp, an estimated 12,000 annual presences are distributed over 3-4 months, with peaks up to 500 daily presences, therefore the quantity of waste to be treated will therefore be 150-200 kg / day.
[0010] The extreme environmental conditions and in particular, the low temperatures, the reduced atmospheric pressure with consequent reduced presence of oxygen, the low humidity tend to slow down the phenomena of biodegradability so that even the organic waste is substantially intact even for many years.
[0011] Environmental pollution has so far been solved by removing the waste or dispersing it, however this method creates increasing quantities or logistical problems for transportation at high altitudes or environmental pollution problems.
[0012] The applicant has posed the problem of how to reduce the amount of undifferentiated solid waste, in extreme or isolated environments.
[0013] The Applicant has solved the aforementioned problem by devising a system of incineration of undifferentiated waste as set forth in claim 1.
[0014] Further characteristics of the invention form the object of the dependent claims.
[0015] The undifferentiated waste incineration system according to the present invention comprises a combustion chamber in turn comprising a first pre-heating compartment, a second compartment for housing waste and a third combustion compartment, the first and the second compartment being fed respectively with air and gas respectively by means of a first and a second air admission duct, and a first and second fuel admission duct, the third compartment being equipped with a smoke exhaust duct and a flue gas recirculation duct provided for recirculate a predeterminable amount of fumes to the first compartment.
[0016] Although the device according to the present invention can be used for the incineration of waste in environments subjected to extreme climatic conditions, its use in any environment and in ordinary conditions has advantages over known systems.
[0017] The characteristics and advantages of an incineration system for undifferentiated waste according to the present invention will become more evident from the following non-limiting example, referring to the attached figure, which shows a schematic view of the device according to one of the possible embodiments of the invention.
[0018] The present invention provides an incineration system 10 for undifferentiated solid waste 11, in general waste produced by the person during his stay at a certain site.
[0019] The non-separated waste incineration system 10 comprises a combustion chamber 20 in turn comprising a first pre-heating compartment 21, a second compartment 22 for housing waste and a third compartment 23 for combustion.
[0020] The first and second compartment 21, 22 are fed respectively with air A and with gas G respectively by means of a first and a second air admission duct 31, 31, and a first and second fuel admission duct 32, 32.
[0021] The third compartment is equipped with a flue gas exhaust duct 33 and a flue gas recirculation duct 34 designed to recirculate a predeterminable amount of fumes to the first compartment 21.
[0022] The first air admission duct is configured so that air A is introduced into the air admission duct 31 through a blower 12 regulated by a valve 13 and controlled by a temperature indicator 17 and a flow indicator 18 .
[0023] Downstream of the indicators the first air admission duct 31 directed towards the first compartment 21 branches branching generating the second air admission duct 31 directed to the second compartment 22 whose flow is regulated by a corresponding valve 37.
[0024] The air passes through a venturi ejector 14 mixing with the fumes coming out of the third compartment after combustion and recalled, under regulation of a suitable valve 35, in the recirculation duct 34 connected to the venturi ejector 14.
[0025] Downstream of the ejector venturi 14 the first supply duct 31 opens into the first compartment 21 of the combustion chamber 20 where the fuel gas G introduced by means of an inlet valve 36 through the first fuel inlet duct 32 is also fed with flow regulated by a valve 38.
[0026] Initially, a pilot flame favors pre-combustion, as long as the chamber is able to withstand the gasification of the waste under normal operating conditions.
[0027] In this way it is possible to obtain a more effective combustion as it operates at high temperatures (of the order of 600 [deg.] C) partly gasifying the waste and burning the gases produced even in conditions of intense cold, - 20 [deg.] C -30 [deg.] C thanks to the heating action obtainable through the recirculation of the fumes.
[0028] This recirculation also allows to keep the incoming air with a partial oxygen pressure lower than the stoichiometric combustion ratio, favoring gasification without the risk of explosions of the combustion chamber and delaying the combustion of the gasified waste so that such combustion it occurs for the most part on a net 25 which separates the second compartment 22 from the third compartment 23 which advantageously are superimposed on each other and on the first compartment.
[0029] The waste 11 supported by a grid 24 separating the first compartment 21 from the second compartment 22, and having a percentage of openings of about 50% of the total surface, is first gasified and partially cracked thanks to a second flame present in the elevated area of the second compartment and to the presence of secondary air supplied by the second air admission duct 31 with relative valve 37 and fuel likewise supplied by the second fuel admission duct 32 regulated by valve 38.
[0030] The waste present in the combustion chamber is thus incinerated according to a charging operating mode if the chamber 20 is arranged to operate discontinuously or continuously when the chamber is arranged, with means for moving waste, to operate in that second way.
[0031] In the undifferentiated waste incineration system according to the present invention, the heat required for starting the plant is therefore generated by burning gaseous or liquid combustible or steam in the presence of the primary air, the primary air is introduced through a suction and mixing device, which mixes part of the external compressed air with the fumes produced by combustion, this guarantees air with oxygen content lower than the stoichiometric combustion, an ideal condition for gasification is the presence of hot air, which also complete combustion of any species not completely oxidized.
[0032] The combustion chamber 20 provides the second compartment 22 for housing waste to be destroyed.
[0033] In the third compartment 23 compressed air is introduced which serves for the combustion of the gases generated by the waste, this air must contain oxygen in a quantity such as to ensure complete combustion.
[0034] According to an embodiment of the invention, the air enters the combustion chamber 20 through a tubular distributor located on the perimeter and provided with air passage holes which convey the air downwards, so as to break down and retain dust.
[0035] To ensure safety in the third compartment there is also the presence of a pilot flame which must be kept on while the system is running.
[0036] The combustion fumes F are sent partly to the recirculation through the recirculation duct 34 and partly discharged from the combustion chamber 20 through the exhaust duct 33 and are partly discharged into the atmosphere by a first chimney 16 and partly filtered in a filter 41 to reduce the concentration of particulate matter and harmful pollutants.
[0037] After filtration the fumes are passed through a recuperator 42 of the thermodynamic energy.
[0038] In order to ensure correct combustion, for example in high places, ie at lower atmospheric pressure, along the exhaust duct 33, preferably after filtration and thermodynamic recovery and before starting the fumes to a second chimney 43, it is provided a pressurization system 40 comprising, for example, a controlled pressurization valve, preferably of the self-regulating type of the discharge pressure, or any other device capable of generating the necessary back pressure at the discharge, adapted to raise the internal pressure of the combustion chamber making it hyperbaric so as to allow correct combustion.
[0039] To control the system further temperature indicators 17 are also provided, along the ducts 31,34,33 in the third compartment 23 of the combustion chamber and downstream of the exchanger 42.
[0040] At least one pressure indicator 19 is also provided along the exhaust duct 33 downstream of the combustion chamber 20.
[0041] Another peculiarity of the invention is given by the compactness of the incineration system which must allow the possibility of human transportation of the assembled components, where necessary along the impervious paths up to the base camp, the components are therefore of limited weight, not exceeding 25 kg each.
