The present invention relates to a device for increasing the cooling capacity of a heat exchanger with a spray device for the intermittent application of liquid to the surface of the heat exchanger.
Today, heat exchangers are widely used as lamella and plate heat exchangers and generally serve to bring about a certain temperature compensation between two media that do not directly contact one another and have different temperatures. Air / water and air / air heat exchangers are used in process engineering for cooling purposes, with the conventional heat exchange process, namely water or a liquid (for example water / glycol mixture, \ l, and the like) or air (outside air or recirculating air from technical systems) using ambient air or exhaust air from ventilation systems. In this cooling process, the medium to be cooled can never be cooled below the temperature level of the available cooling medium for physical reasons.
The invention is now to improve this heat exchange process with the help of the evaporation energy of the liquid sprayed onto the surface of the heat exchanger in such a way that on the one hand a two to fourfold increase in the cooling capacity is achieved and on the other hand the outlet temperature of the medium to be cooled is significantly below the temperature level of the available cooling medium is cooled. In addition, the spray device for applying liquid to the surface of the heat exchanger should be as inexpensive to manufacture as possible and as reliable as possible in operation, low in maintenance and cheap.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that the spray device is formed by a plurality of stationary, mutually spaced and individually controllable nozzles.
A first preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention is characterized in that the nozzles are arranged such that the heat exchanger surface to be sprayed is divided into spray areas and that a spray nozzle is assigned to each of these spray areas. The spray areas are preferably close together and touch or overlap.
A second preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention is characterized in that a modular solenoid valve system is assigned to the nozzles.
The device according to the invention has the advantage that the nozzles arranged in a stationary manner are considerably cheaper to produce than a mobile nozzle arrangement. In addition, the device is extremely reliable and requires little maintenance due to the absence of moving parts. The modular solenoid valve system enables extremely precise control of the spray duration and spray frequency per spray area and the amount of spray water can be metered very precisely.
The invention is explained in more detail below on the basis of exemplary embodiments illustrated in the drawings; it shows:
Figure 1 is a schematic representation of a finned heat exchanger with a spray device according to the invention. and
Fig. 2 is a schematic representation of a plate heat exchanger with a spray device according to the invention.
Fig. 1 shows a finned heat exchanger 4, which consists in a known manner of a large number of parallel fins and these piercing tubes 8, the tubes 8 forming a multi-piercing through the finned delivery channel for a medium to be cooled, for example water. To cool the water, the heat exchanger 4 is traversed by flowing air, preferably ambient or outside air. According to the illustration, the plate pack occupies a horizontal position, the individual plates being arranged vertically. The air flows through the plate pack under the action of a fan 5 sucking in the ambient or outside air in the direction of arrow A in the vertical direction from bottom to top and flows through the spaces between the individual plates.
Spray nozzles 7 are arranged on the air outlet side of the heat exchanger 4 and spray a spray liquid, preferably water, against the air direction A onto the fins of the heat exchanger 4. The spray water evaporates and the energy required for this is extracted almost exclusively from the water cycle in the tubes 8. As can be shown on the basis of theoretical considerations, it does not make sense to add more spray liquid to the heat exchanger 4 than can be evaporated, because this does not increase the amount of evaporation and also does not further increase the cooling capacity. In addition, excess spray liquid would form drops on the lamella surfaces and increase the air-side resistance through the lamella gaps, which would lead to an undesirable increase in air resistance.
So that an optimal evaporation can take place, both the dosage of the spray liquid and the active area of the heat exchanger 4 must be selected so that the liquid applied can transfer the evaporation energy released to the medium to be cooled. Complete evaporation takes a minimal amount of time, which depends on the air mixture (temperature and humidity) and on the temperature difference between the air and the medium to be cooled. For this reason, the spray water must be sprayed onto the heat exchanger surface in such a way that the surface unit in question is only sprayed again when the evaporation process on this surface unit has been completed.
For the practical implementation of this requirement, the surface of the heat exchanger 4 to be sprayed is divided into approximately square spray areas, and a special spray nozzle 7 is assigned to each spray area. The spray areas are arranged close together, preferably they touch or overlap slightly. The dosage of the spray water can be adjusted according to the characteristics of the spray nozzles 7 by changing the pressure in a range from preferably 1.0 to 5.0 bar.
The individual spray nozzles 7 are supplied with spray water via a modular solenoid valve system 3. The modular solenoid valve system 3, which is connected to a supply line 6 for spray water and has a number of outputs corresponding to the number of nozzles 7, is controlled by a controller 2, which is also connected to the fan 5 and a temperature sensor 1 for the Outlet temperature of the water from the heat exchanger 4 is connected. The individual solenoid valves of the modular solenoid valve system 3 are switched according to a predetermined control program and the individual spray areas are sprayed with spray water accordingly.
The control of the spray duration per spray area and the spray frequency, i.e. the time intervals between the individual spray processes, is carried out by the controller 2, which adapts the parameters mentioned to the performance requirements and at the same time sends the air required for the evaporation process via the heat exchanger 4 via the fan 5.
To clean and keep the surface of the heat exchanger 4 clean, the heat exchanger 4 is periodically cleaned with the spray device described, with the addition of special cleaning agent and increasing the nozzle pressure, with, of course, no air flow through the heat exchanger. Preferably, all nozzles 7 are always active during the cleaning process. This periodic cleaning can always guarantee optimal heat transfer and constant cooling performance.
FIG. 2 shows a plate heat exchanger 9 with a spray device of the type described with reference to FIG. 1. Correspondingly, the same components are designated with the same reference numerals, the temperature sensor with 1, the controller with 2, the modular solenoid valve system with 3, the supply line for the spray water with 6 and the spray nozzles with 7. The to the fin heat exchanger 4 from 1 made on the spraying device apply mutatis mutandis also for the plate heat exchanger 9 shown in FIG. 2. The diagonal air ducts are characteristic and imperative for the plate heat exchanger 9. The air for the evaporation process must be led diagonally downwards from the top, as shown from the top right (exhaust air) to the bottom left (exhaust air).
The spray nozzles 7 are arranged on the air inlet surface of the heat exchanger and spray the spray water in the air direction.
The air to be cooled is also led diagonally from top to bottom, as shown from top left (outside air) to bottom right (supply air). The air to be cooled can also be guided in the opposite direction, that is, diagonally from bottom to top. The temperature sensor 1 measures the temperature of the cooled air.
