State of the art
The invention is based on a device for separating packing strips from a continuously moving material web. The operating costs of such known devices are essentially determined by the costs for the relatively quickly wearing cutting knives. It is known to design the cutting knives from hard metal to increase their service life. Furthermore, it is known, for example from DE 2 405 860 B2, to use a rod-shaped cutting knife with a square cross-sectional area on a rotating shaft, which has four cutting edges. Due to the turning option of the cutting knife, an increased service life of the cutting knife can be achieved.
Advantages of the invention
The device according to the invention for separating packing strips from a continuously moving material web with the characterizing features of claim 1 has the advantage that the operating costs can be additionally reduced, in particular by minimizing the cutting knife volumes. The cutting knife volumes are minimized by the design of the components of the device which carry the cutting knives and which receive the cutting knives in a form-fitting manner. It is particularly advantageous that both cutting knives can be used several times due to their respective square cross-sectional area by appropriate turning, which extends the life of the cutting knives and thus additionally reduces the operating costs.
Further advantages and advantageous developments of the device according to the invention for separating packing strips from a continuously moving material web result from the dependent claims and the description. A further reduction in running costs due to lower manufacturing and storage costs for the cutting knives can be achieved if both cutting knives are of identical design. The life of the cutting knives can be extended by using hard metals for the cutting knives. It is also advantageous that the largely cylindrical outer surface of the rotating shaft forms a support surface and guide for the material web at the same time, so that the device is particularly susceptible to malfunction.

Description of the embodiment
The device 10 for separating packing strips 11 from a continuously conveyed material web 12 is part of a system for producing and packaging candies, not shown. The material web 12 is preferably stored in roll form and is fed to the device 10, for example, by means of a driven pair of feed rollers 13, 14. After the packing strips 11 have been separated off by the device 10, the individual packing strips 11 are fed to the candies for wrapping by means not shown, which are known per se.
The device 10 has a substantially plate-shaped carrier 16 arranged perpendicular to the conveying direction X of the material web 12. On the side facing the material web 12 extends on the carrier 16 a step-shaped extension 17, which is formed over the width of the material web 12 and has a flat surface 18 arranged approximately 45 degrees against the conveying direction X of the material web 12.
A first rod-shaped cutting knife 20 with a square cross-sectional area with a side face lies flat on the area 18. The side length of the cross-sectional area of the first cutting knife 20 is 8 mm, for example. The first cutting knife 20 is preferably made of hard metal, with all four longitudinal edges being designed as cutting edges 21a to 21d. A reinforcing strip 22 serves as a stiffening element for fixing the first cutting knife 20 to the surface 18 of the carrier 16.
The reinforcing strip 22 is screwed to the surface 18 of the carrier 16, for example, by means of four screws 24 which are countersunk in the reinforcing strip 22 at regular intervals perpendicular to the surface 18 of the carrier 16. For receiving the first cutting knife 20, the reinforcing bar 22 has two stop faces 26, 27 arranged perpendicular to one another and adapted to the corresponding side faces of the first cutting knife 20. The one stop face 26 extends almost up to the cutting edge 21 a of the first cutting knife 20. This means that three of the four side surfaces of the first cutting knife 20 are at least partially covered by the surface 18 or by the stop surfaces 26, 27 of the reinforcing strip 22. The first cutting knife 20 is thus almost positively enclosed by the carrier 16 and the reinforcing strip 22.
It is essential for the dimensioning of the first cutting knife 20, as well as the carrier 16 and the reinforcing strip 22, that the strength or rigidity required for the operation of the device 10 is applied almost exclusively by the carrier 16 and its extension 17, and by the reinforcing strip 22. The first cutting knife 20 only has to fulfill the cutting function.
A bar 28 is integrally formed on the carrier 16 for the exact positional and cutting gap adjustment of the cutting edge 21a to 21d of the first cutting knife 20 that is in use. For example, four screws 25, preferably each provided with a fine thread, are screwed into the strip 28, the undersides of which act on the reinforcing strip 22, so that the screwing depths of the screws 25 allow different positions of the reinforcing strip 22 on the surface 18 of the carrier 16 to be adjusted.
A second cutting knife 30 connected to a rotating shaft 29 interacts with the first rigidly arranged cutting knife 20. The second cutting knife 30 is identical to the first cutting knife 20. This means that it has the same length and cross-sectional area, also has four cut edges 31a to 31d, and is preferably made of hard metal. The shaft 29 is arranged on the side of the material web 12 opposite the carrier 16. The shaft 29 is mounted in two legs 32, 33 arranged on the carrier 16. For play-free mounting of the shaft 29 in the legs 32, 33, an angular contact ball bearing 34, 35 is arranged in each leg 32, 33, the angular contact ball bearings 34, 35 being clampable by means of a nut 37 arranged at one end 36 of the shaft 29.
At the other end of the shaft 29, a dog clutch 38 for driving the shaft 29, not shown, and a grease nipple 39 are arranged.
The shaft 29 is longitudinally divided to receive the second cutting knife 30 with an eccentric parting plane 40. Through the division plane 40, the shaft 29 is divided into a larger base element 41 and a smaller additional element 42. The base element 41 and the additional element 42 are connected by means of a plurality of screws 43, which are arranged at an angle of approximately 45 degrees to the parting plane 40. The screw heads 44 of the screws 43 are completely countersunk in the base element 41. A first retaining lug 45, which is arranged at right angles to the division plane 40, is formed on the base element 41. About half of the first side surface 46a of the second cutting knife 30 is covered by the first retaining lug 45. Furthermore, the second side surface 46b of the second cutting knife 30 lies on the base element 41 over the entire area in the region of the parting plane 40.
A second retaining lug 47 and a stop surface 48 arranged at right angles to the division plane 40 are formed on the additional element 42. The third side surface 46c of the second cutting knife 30 is in full contact with the stop surface 48 of the additional element 42. In addition, the second holding lug 47 covers the fourth side surface 46d of the second cutting knife 3d approximately halfway.
From the above-described design of the shaft 29 or of the base element 41 and of the additional element 42, it follows that the second cutting knife 30, with the exception of the cutting edge 31a to 31d currently in use, is almost completely embedded in the shaft 29.
It is essential for the dimensioning of the second cutting knife 30 as well as the base element 41 and the additional element 42 that the strength or rigidity required for the operation of the device 10 is applied almost exclusively by the shaft 29. The volume of the second cutting knife 30 can thus be minimized, so that only the cutting edges 31a to 31d can be used, and the second cutting knife 30 can still be securely connected to the shaft 29.
The device 10 described above works as follows: The material web 12 is conveyed continuously in the conveying direction X into the feed area of the device 10 by means of the pair of feed rollers 13, 14. At the same time, the shaft 29 is rotated counterclockwise by means of a drive, not shown, via the claw coupling 38. As a result, the cutting edge 21a of the first cutting knife 20 and the cutting edge 31a of the second cutting knife 30 come into engagement once with each revolution of the shaft 29. In accordance with the feed rate of the material web 12 and the speed of the shaft 29, a packing strip 11 of corresponding length is thus separated from the material web 12.
For the trouble-free operation of the device 10, it is advantageous that the screws 43 or the screw heads 44 connecting the additional element 42 to the base element 41 of the shaft 29 are completely countersunk in the shaft 29. As a result, the lateral surface of the shaft 29 is interrupted only at the location of the cutting edge 31a of the second cutting knife 30. The shaft 29 therefore forms a guide for the material web 12 together with the underside of the reinforcement strip 22.
