The present invention relates to a method for melting and conveying thermoplastic material contained in a barrel, in particular hot-melt adhesive, in which the thermoplastic material is melted under pressure by means of a barrel stamp introduced into the barrel, the surface of which facing the interior of the barrel is formed by a heating plate the barrel is displaced through the barrel stamp, with a delivery rate that can be adjusted as a function of the required delivery rate, and a device for melting and delivering thermoplastic material contained in a barrel, in particular hot-melt adhesive, with a frame for adjusting a barrel and with one compared to it Frame movable by means of a lifting and lowering barrel stamp,
whose surface facing the interior of the barrel is formed by a heating plate and which is adapted to the inner cross section of the barrel and has sealing means with respect to it and at least one passage opening.
Thermoplastic material of the type mentioned is filled in barrels by the manufacturer in molten liquid form, which are then closed, the material cooling to ambient temperature and hardening. In this way, the material is brought into marketable, dispatchable units at low cost, whereby the barrels used are optimally filled and are cheaply available. The material is easy to transport in this form.
At the consumer, the material filled in the aforementioned manner is to be melted in the barrels and used for further use, whereby methods and devices are available which melt and promote the contents of an upright barrel at the same time. These methods and devices are mentioned at the beginning and are known, for example, from DE-AS 2 610 415. The devices have a barrel stamp, which takes up the cross section of an open barrel, with a heating plate which can melt the thermoplastic material and through which it is discharged by means of a feed pump via heatable hoses. The barrel ram is adjusted by means of a lifting and lowering device in accordance with the delivery rate of the feed pump, a pump admission pressure being built up if necessary.
The delivery rate is adjusted by the feed pump to the needs of the consumer.
At the beginning of an emptying process, a venting and compressed air supply valve in the barrel stamp is opened so that it can be inserted into the barrel without additional pressure on the sealant until it rests on the solidified surface of the material with the heating plate. The venting and compressed air supply valve is then closed and the melting and conveying process begins, the barrel ram being tracked by the lifting and lowering device. When the barrel is empty and the barrel stamp lies on the floor, the ventilation and compressed air supply valve is opened and connected to a compressed air connection. Then the barrel stamp with the lifting and lowering means is removed from the barrel by means of the lifting and lowering means under the predominant effect of an overpressure in the barrel and the barrel is removed from the frame.
The heating plate is heated in known devices with a constant power, which must be large enough to be able to cause melting before the start of the conveyance of thermoplastic material and on the other hand is limited by the fact that there is no overheating of the material with an influence of quality may come.
The load on the barrel ram by the lifting and lowering device is kept constant in known devices during the melting and conveying process.
The known devices have the disadvantage that in the event of a suddenly decreasing delivery rate due to the reduced demand, the highly heated heating plate leads to overheating of material, since the melted material is no longer discharged in the same amount. This overheating can adversely affect the quality of the thermoplastic material. In an unfavorable manner, non-reversible burning of material layers to the heating plate can also occur. Due to the continued thrust of the feed device, there is also a disadvantageous flowing past between the seals of the heating plate and the barrel walls. As a result, material is lost and the device becomes dirty in an unpleasant manner.
The present invention is based on the object of providing a method and a device of the type mentioned at the outset with which thermoplastic material, in particular hot-melt adhesive, can be made available in a constant quality even in the case of a variable quantity requirement. The solution lies in a method according to the invention, which is characterized in that the heating plate is at least temporarily forced-cooled with the delivery rate reduced to zero. In a preferred embodiment of the method it is provided that the heating plate is at least temporarily forced-cooled even with a decreasing delivery rate.
This ensures that when the delivery volume is reduced, the heat capacity stored in the plate is not introduced into the material in the barrel, but that when the delivery volume is withdrawn, the surface temperature and thus the temperature of the material in the barrel can be kept constant immediately by cooling the plate. so that there are no quality disadvantages and, in particular, the device is not adversely affected by material burning.
In addition to the two aforementioned process steps, it can of course be provided that the heating plate is heated more with increasing conveying rate.
In the simplest implementation of the corresponding method, it can be provided that the activation of the cooling or the reduction in the heating output can be changed directly as a function of the requested delivery quantity. In a preferred and easily representable manner, however, it is preferable to continuously record the temperature at the front of the heating plate and to regulate the cooling or the reduction of the heating power in such a way that this temperature is kept constant for as long as operational readiness must be maintained. It is also advantageous here that, with such a temperature-controlled cooling and heating, rapid heating is possible in order to produce the operational readiness with a previously hardened thermoplastic, without critical temperature values for the material being exceeded.
A device according to the invention for carrying out the method is characterized in that the heating plate has internal cooling devices. It is advantageous here to bring the heating means and the cooling means as close as possible to the surface of the heating plate facing the barrel. As a rule, built-up heating plates will be required for this.
The cooling devices preferably consist of cooling channels, in particular of a system of axial and radial bores, to which liquid coolant can be applied. No special requirements are placed on the coolant, so that water or \ l can be used.
Heating cartridges which are inserted from behind through straight axial bores and end near the surface of the heating plate facing the material are particularly suitable as heating means. Such heating cartridges can be distributed uniformly or in adaptation to the course of the cooling channels over the cross section of the heating plate, so that the temperature distribution on the plate is as uniform as possible.
To increase the area available for heat transfer, it is expedient to enlarge the plate surface that comes into contact with the material by suitable design. On the other hand, for the purpose of completely emptying the barrel, it is advantageous if the surface of the plate facing the material is completely flat, so that the heating plate can be lowered to the bottom of the barrel.
A suitable compromise to deal with this conflict of goals is to provide the surface of the panels with vertical ribs of uniform height. A particularly favorable embodiment consists in that the heating cartridges or the heat exchanger elements assigned to them are resiliently held in the surface of the heating plate in such a way that they protrude from it in the manner of a spring and can be pressed back against the spring force approximately flush to the surface facing the interior of the barrel. This ensures on the one hand the increase in surface area for the purpose of improved heat transfer, and on the other hand the dead volume of material that cannot be removed from the barrel can be reduced to almost zero.
A further improvement of the device is that a pressure sensor is attached to the heating plate on the side facing the barrel interior, by means of which the feed force of the lifting and lowering device can be regulated.
A favorable embodiment, which can prevent an immediate return of liquefied material from the heating plate when the barrel stamp is removed from the emptied barrel, is that the passage opening of the barrel stamp comprises at least one centrally arranged axial bore that emerges from the rear of the heating plate and a plurality of connected with this includes radial bores, ie in radially recessed suction areas on the circumference of the heating plate in front of the sealing means into the interior of the barrel. The flow resistance in the long radial bore sections can prevent an immediate backflow. To improve this idea, it can be provided that at least one control or check valve, preferably a plurality of control or check valves, are provided at the outlet openings of the radial bore sections.
The lifting and lowering device preferably comprises double-acting pneumatic cylinders. The working pressure in the pneumatic cylinders is preferably regulated in such a way that a constant internal pressure is maintained in the drum and that the working pressure in the pneumatic cylinders is also set to zero when the delivery volume is reduced to zero. This prevents the seals from being additionally loaded due to a pre-pressure of the barrel stamp when the delivery volume is reduced, and ultimately the material being pressed out of the barrel past the seals, as a result of which it could cool down above the seals and contaminate the device.
A preferred embodiment of a device according to the invention is described below with reference to drawings.
Fig. 1 shows a vertical section through an inventive device;
FIG. 2 shows the heating plate of a device according to FIG. 1 on an enlarged scale;
Fig. 3 shows the heating plate of FIG. 2 in a bottom view.
In Fig. 1 the device can be seen with a frame 1 on which two vertical double-acting pneumatic cylinders 2, 3 are attached. Between these there is a barrel 4 resting on the frame 1. The piston rods 6, 7 of the pneumatic cylinders are connected to one another via a yoke 5. On the yoke 5 push rods 8, 9 are fastened parallel to the cylinders 2, 3 and pointing downwards, which carry a barrel stamp 10. The push rods 8, 9 are stiffened via an intermediate plate 11, on which a direct current motor 12 is fastened, which drives a gear pump 14 via a shaft 13. The gear pump is connected on the suction side to suction openings 15 in the barrel ram 10 and delivers on the pressure side into a heated hose 16. The pump has an internal bypass to protect against an excessive rise in pressure on the delivery side.
The heating plate is sealed off from the barrel by means of seals 17, 18. The barrel 4 is held centered in a holder 19 with respect to the frame, in particular against the cylinders 2, 3. Details of the barrel stamp 10 will be discussed with reference to FIG. 2.
2, the lower part of the barrel 4, the lifting struts 8, 9 and the barrel stamp 10 can be seen. A system of passage channels 20 for withdrawing melted material comprises three axial bores 21, 22, 23 as well as radial bores 24, 25 emanating therefrom A sealing section 29 of the heating plate 30 is provided above the suction region 26. Seals 17, 18 lie in annular grooves 27, 28 of the sealing section 29.
The heating plate 30 also shows a system of cooling channels 40, which consist of axially parallel bores 31, 32 and radial bores 33 connecting these, which are closed to the outside by blind plugs 34.
Several such cooling channels are provided in different radial planes.
In the heating plate 30, a system of axially parallel bores 36, 37, 38 is also provided, which are used to pass lines and into which heating elements 41, 42, 43 are inserted at their front end. Here, too, further bores and heating elements in other radial planes can be assumed to be distributed essentially uniformly.
An axial bore 46 for a pressure sensor 47 and an axial bore 48 for a temperature sensor 49 are provided in each individual version on the heating plate 30. The front of the heating plate 30 is provided with ribs 50 of uniform height.
In FIG. 3, from the details already mentioned in FIG. 2, the following can be seen in their special arrangement: the sealing section 29, with no sealing ring being used yet, the annular, radially recessed suction area 26, the radial bores 24, heating elements 41, 42, 43 and a pattern of ribs 50. The pressure sensor 47 and the temperature sensor 49 can also be seen.
