The invention relates to a process for the preparation of an agent according to claim 1, which brings about the remediation of acidified agricultural and forestry soils: finely divided calcium and / or magnesium carbonate are used exclusively with water as pelletizing liquid to produce pellets with a depot effect Slowly and specifically release neutralizing and environmentally friendly active ingredients that stabilize the floor buffer system under the influence of soil moisture and / or rainwater.
A large part of acids are introduced into the soil from the atmosphere (-> acid rain). This results in a dramatic decrease in soil pH. Its average value is already below 3.6 in some forest stands; below a pH of 4.2, however, alumina destruction begins, i.e. aluminum, iron and manganese ions are released in the soil water, which disrupt the growth of the roots. In addition, heavy metals are absorbed by the plants at extremely low pH values, which increases the negative effect.
This indirect damage to the plants results from the destruction of the soil buffer system, extensive depletion of calcium in many soils and an increase in the so-called Bronsted acids (Mn, Al, Fe).
Restoring forest and other ecosystems that have been or are being damaged by atmospheric acid and heavy metal inputs can only be successful if the soil's buffer capacity is restored.
Attempts have been made in the past to stop the process of soil acidification by rapid neutralization caused by the blowing of fine lime dust. These attempts can largely be regarded as failed: the lime dust only affects the near-surface soil horizon, due to the rapid overall availability it has a rather negative effect on the biological activity of the soil and has a short duration of action.
The aim of the present invention was therefore to develop a process for the preparation of an agent which does not have this disadvantage. The starting point was the consideration
- to introduce such neutralizing and stabilizing active substances into the soil, with a slow and targeted release,
- do this in a form that creates a multitude of small deposits.
This goal was achieved by the present invention: the development of a method for producing pellets according to claim 1.
This means that an active material is available that, in contrast to conventional lime dust
- releases calcium or magnesium evenly and with a long-term effect on the soil,
- prevents harmful influences on the soil flora and fauna and
- is plentiful and inexpensive.
These Ca-Mg granules form the basis of the remedial measures as "slow-release pellets with a depot effect".
In addition, further additives can be added to them in a fine distribution, for example those which, in addition to their acid-binding capacity, also have the property of forming buffer systems themselves and of maintaining them in the long term.
First of all, active ingredients are mentioned here that have a water solubility at least 5-12 times greater than CaCO3 or Mg (OH) 2 (see Table 1). The substances with a 6-10 times higher solubility are particularly advantageous.
Pairs of non-toxic, environmentally friendly carbonates and monohydrogenphosphates of potassium, magnesium, magnesium-ammonium and calcium have also proven to be buffer-forming substances, which have a duration of action of about 12 months, allow the setting of an optimal soil pH value of 5.6 and maintenance guarantee this value.
Table 1 below shows the data for calcium and magnesium carbonate and the most important substances that can be used as additives at 20-25 ° C.

The pellets are produced by built-up agglomeration: e.g. Powdered calcium or magnesium carbonate or their mixtures intensively mixed with water and pre-pelleted to the nucleation stage. Then up to 7.5% additives (e.g. MgHPO4.7 H2O and CaHPO4) and further water are added; The build-up agglomeration is continued in the pelletizing device until the pellets have a size between 1 and 6 mm in diameter. After a corresponding drying time, their strength is then up to 10 kg / cm 2.
When pelletizing different powdery materials, however, it often happens that granulation processes become difficult or practically impossible to carry out if the bulk densities differ by more than 50% and the substances are only slightly water-soluble. A typical example of such a material is magnesium carbonate, which, depending on the type of production, occurs in carbonate or hydroxide carbonate form and, depending on the grinding process, is supplied as a light or heavy product with a bulk density of between 90 and 500 g / dm <3>.
A new method was therefore developed to successfully granulate or pellet such substances or mixtures of substances: "reverse pelletizing". This process is based on the fact that the individual powdery constituents or mixtures of the constituents with their different bulk densities are worked up in such a way that the components with the lower densities are first - if necessary with the addition of lime, hydrated lime and / or other hydroxides-forming oxides of the alkaline earth metals and / or the hemihydrate of calcium sulfate - using water and / or aqueous solutions of inorganic salts (eg MgCl2, NaNO3 etc.) and / or existing and / or individual active ingredients containing artificially produced sludges to be shaped into a plasticine.
The pelleting process is then brought to an end by adding the constituents with the higher bulk densities in portions.
This process, which is particularly characterized by a high degree of homogeneity of the mixture, is explained below using a typical example:
Pellets are to be produced which contain buffer mixtures and light magnesium hydroxide as a magnesium component with a bulk density of 0.09 kg / dm <3>. In its final form, the batch for its manufacture has the following composition:
<tb> <TABLE> Columns = 4

<tb> </TABLE>
First you add the light magnesium hydroxide carbonate as well as magnesium and calcium phosphate to the pelletizing drum, mix thoroughly and add 30 kg water and 4 kg lime in portions. After a while you get a plasticine. Now, in three equal portions, add the calcium carbonate to the drum, each with 2 kg of lime, with the contents being mixed thoroughly after each addition. Very uniform pellets are formed which, under optimal conditions, have the following distribution in terms of their granulation:
<tb> <TABLE> Columns = 3

<tb> </TABLE>
The "slow release pellets with depot effect" can be spread by hand or mechanically (e.g. from the air) on the (forest) soil. Depending on the initial pH value and the trend of increasing acidity, 0.5 to 3 t of pellets per hectare are required as a primary measure. After this first and actual remedial step, which has resulted in an increase in the pH value to 5.6, only a maximum of 0.5 t / ha is required as a secondary long-term measure in order to effectively counteract the acid input from the outside.
