One of the problems encountered in the development of extrusion lines as efficient as possible lies in the rapid change of the extrusion tool. Indeed, it sometimes happens that it is necessary to successively produce segments of sheathed wire or electric cable by using the same, or several extruders, but by modifying, from one segment to another, for example the outside diameter and interior of the insulation, by an appropriate arrangement of the extrusion tool.
Until now, the operations necessary to carry out these modifications included stopping the line, disassembling the extrusion tool found in the working position on the line, mounting a new tool with, if necessary if necessary, cleaning of certain parts of the head, adjustment and adjustment of the tools, preheating of the new head and its installation. We realize that this sequence of operations required a fairly long shutdown which could, if necessary, disrupt the operation of the extruder or the plurality of extruders that are in service. In any case, exchanges represent significant downtime.
The object of the present invention is to provide an improvement to the known extrusion lines so as to reduce these dead times and, if necessary, even to allow the removal of an extrusion head and the place a new extrusion head ready to use by fully automatic means.
For this purpose, the present invention relates to an extrusion line for the continuous production of an elongated metal element provided with a plastic sheath, characterized in that it comprises an exchange device capable of be equipped with two extrusion heads and move them each alternately between a working position and a preparation position.
We will explain below, on the basis of an example, how the invention can be implemented. For this, reference is made to the appended drawing, of which
fig. 1 is a schematic top plan view of part of an extrusion line for the continuous production of an insulated electrical wire,
fig. 2 is a partial elevational view, partially cut away, of an exchange device forming part of the line in FIG. 1 and
fig. 3 is a sectional view through planes perpendicular to the axis of the line, of the exchange device of FIG. 2.
We see in fig. 1 certain parts of an extrusion line which do not play a role with regard to the present invention, but which are shown here by way of example only. The extrusion line comprises three extruders including two main extruders 1 and 2 and an auxiliary extruder 3. All of these extruders are screw extruders arranged with their axes in a horizontal position. The extruders 1 and 2 are arranged symmetrically on either side of a perpendicular to the direction of the line axis, designated by 13. They are oriented, in the example described, at 45 DEG with respect to the 'axis 13. They feed an input 4 forming part of a connection block 5 fixed on a base 6. The auxiliary extruder is arranged above the extruders 1 and 2.
Its axis is oriented perpendicular to the axis 13 and its outlet orifice communicates through a conduit (not shown) with the connection block 5 so that the plastic material from this auxiliary extruder moves vertically up and down to penetrate in block 5.
The line also comprises, mounted on the base 6, an exchange device generally designated by 7. This exchange device comprises a first movable assembly 8 formed by two arms 9 and 10 arranged horizontally, parallel to one the other and both pivoting, independently of one another, on the base 6 around vertical axes. The outer ends of the two arms 9 and 10 are articulated to a support 11 on which is fixed an extrusion head 12. The assembly 8 forms, with the base 6, a parallelogram which can rotate around the articulations of the arms 9 and 10 on the base 6 by printing, on the support 11 and on the extrusion head 12, a movement in circular translation. The articulations of the arms 9 and 10 on the base 6 are located on either side of the axis 13 of the line.
A second mobile assembly 18 comprises an extrusion head 14 mounted on a support 15, on which are articulated two horizontal arms 16 and 17 pivoting, symmetrically to the arms 9 and 10 on the base 6. The mobile assembly 18 is capable of imparting to the extrusion head 14 a movement in symmetrical circular translation of that effected by the head 12.
Each of the extrusion heads 12 and 14 is equipped with a connection piece 19, 20. The base 6 also carries a double jaw locking device 21, while the connection block 5 is equipped, as the extrusion heads 12 and 14, of a connecting piece 22 able to cooperate with the automatic gripper 21 and one or the other of the connection pieces 19, 20, so as to connect the channel or channels entry of the head 12, 14 which is in the working position, with the internal conduits of the connection block. The arrangement of these connecting elements is described in another description of the licensee's Swiss patent with filing date 3.04.90.
As regards, on the other hand, the mobile assemblies, FIGS. 2 and 3 reveal their construction in more detail in a particular embodiment. In these figures, we see the head 12 which is then in the working position, the axis of the line being represented by the line 13. The extrusion head 12 is supported by four bolts 112 fixed on a plate 113, of shape rectangular. A positioning rod 114, provided with a flat head 115, is engaged in a hole in the plate 113 and likewise penetrates into an adjusted bore of a support 116. A pin 117 and the positioning rod 114 make it possible to position with precision the head 12 relative to the support 116, the blocking being produced by a rod 118, integral with a piston of cylinder 119 and engaging in a groove of the positioning rod 114. The two arms 10 and 9 are visible to the fig. 2 and 3.
In fig. 3, we see, in more detail, the articulation between the end of the arm 10 and an axis 110 fixed to the support 116.
We still see in fig. 2 that the end of the arms 9 and 10, linked to the base 6, or more exactly to the base plate 160 fixed on this base, is integral, as regards the arm 9, with a vertical rod 90 secured by two pins with the arm 9. This rod passes through an opening in the base plate 160 and is coupled, by means of a sleeve 91, to the output shaft 92 of a pinion which is housed inside of a rack and pinion actuator 93. It is this actuator which constitutes the motor member of the movable assembly 8. We realize that the arm 10, articulated on the plate 160 around an axis 101, turns freely around of its articulation when the arm 9 is controlled by the jack 93.
Note also the electrical connection terminal 120 which is fixed to the block 116 and the plugs of which are automatically connected to the connection terminal 121, which is homologous to the terminal 120, but mounted on the plate 113 of the head 12. These connections allow in particular the preheating of the head and its tool 12 as well as the measurement of its temperature.
Thanks to the exchange device described above, the change of the structure of a coating on an electric wire or on a cable can be carried out very quickly and rationally. Indeed, while one of the heads, for example the head 14, is in the working position and the line produces the desired conductor, along the axis 13, the head 12 is in the preparation position. In this position, the tooling can be put in place, adjusted and adjusted and preheating can be carried out by connecting the terminal 121 to an auxiliary supply. When it is time to exchange the heads, production is interrupted for a few moments and the conductor is cut downstream of the head 14. The wire is then removed from the head 14, the clamp 21 is opened and the head 14 is moved to the preparation position by maneuvering the cylinder homologous to the cylinder 93.
The wire can then be introduced into the head 12 and this head brought into the working position, after which the clamp 21 can be closed and the line returned to function.
An arrangement of this kind can be provided both on extrusion lines operating with a single extruder as with complex production lines whose extrusion station includes several extruders arranged along different axes relative to the connection block. All these extruders remain permanently connected to the connection block which will be provided with suitable internal conduits.
The exchange device and the locking clamp will be fitted with the necessary sensors so that computer monitoring is possible. All operations can therefore be automated.
Of course, it is also possible to build the exchange device without its operation being fully automatic. The possibility of assembling, adjusting and preheating an extrusion head in a preparation position in such a way that it can be put in place by a simple movement controlled by motor during the exchange, ensures a considerable advantage. in certain cases, even if the intervention of operators is necessary for certain operations.
