The present invention relates to a piece of furniture with parts which are each connected to one another by means of a connecting fitting.
Furniture pieces of this type are already known. In a known piece of furniture of this type, one of the furniture parts is provided with a connector which has a head and projects into the other furniture part. In this second piece of furniture there is a recess in which there is an eccentric screw with a practically circular outer wall. A circumferential slot is made in this outer wall, which is engaged behind by the connector head. When you turn the eccentric screw, it pulls the head in, which causes the furniture parts to be pressed against each other.
The eccentric screw must have a certain diameter so that the connector can be pulled into it. If elongated furniture parts are to be connected to one another, the height of which only slightly exceeds the diameter of the eccentric screw, then the recess in the furniture part which is required for receiving the eccentric screw would weaken the cross-section thereof, which could possibly lead to the breakage of this furniture part. For furniture parts whose height is smaller than the diameter of the eccentric screw, a connection fitting with the eccentric screw cannot be used at all.
The object of the present invention is to provide a piece of furniture in which these and other disadvantages do not occur.
This object is achieved according to the invention in the piece of furniture of the type mentioned at the outset, as defined in the characterizing part of claim 1.
Exemplary embodiments of the present invention are explained in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawing. The only drawing shows a section from the present piece of furniture in a parallel perspective.
The present piece of furniture has parts 1, 2 and 3 which can be connected to one another by means of a fitting 5. The furniture parts 1 to 3 shown in the present example are elongated and are therefore also referred to below as beams. However, it goes without saying that at least one of these furniture parts can also be flat. Further furniture parts or elements can be added to the furniture parts 1 to 3 shown. The furniture parts or elements can be made of metal, wood, glass or plastic, for example.
The beams 1 to 3 can be part of a frame in which a flat furniture element, e.g. a glass pane, sliding door, etc. is bordered. To hold a planar and stationary furniture element (not shown), the relevant parts of the beams 1, etc. are designed with narrow furrows 6, the width of which practically equals the thickness of the planar furniture element. If the flat furniture element is a sliding door, then the studs, as is shown in the case of the beam 3, are designed with wide furrows 7. In these wide furrows 7, a sliding door profile 8 of a known type is used.
The connecting fitting 5 comprises an elongated connector 10 which has the shape of a bolt. This connector 10 has a base body 11, the outer wall of which is practically cylindrical. On one of the end faces or on one of the end parts of this base body 11, a pin 12 with an external thread is connected, the diameter of which is smaller than the diameter of the connector base body 11. This set screw 12 is arranged coaxially with the base body 11 of the connector 10 and he is used to screw into one of the furniture parts 1 to 3 to be connected.
If the furniture parts 1 to 3 are made of metal, then it is sufficient to make a threaded hole in the relevant furniture part, in which the threaded pin 12 can be screwed. In the case of wooden furniture parts, it is expedient to use a sleeve 15 which is provided with an internal thread 16 and with an external thread 17. This sleeve 15 made of brass is advantageous. The external thread 17 is designed such that the threaded sleeve 15 is stuck in the wooden furniture part 1 to 3. In contrast, the internal thread 16 in the sleeve 15 is such that the connector pin 12 can be screwed into the sleeve 15. The type of internal thread 16 depends on the type of material from which the threaded pin 12 is made. This can be made of metal or plastic, for example.
The other end part of the base body 11 of the connector 10 is provided with a circumferential groove 20 which is located at a distance from this end of the base body 11. The flanks 21 and 22 of this groove 20 are inclined outwards, so that the cross section of this groove 20 has the shape of an open U. This groove 20 can thus be referred to as an open groove. The section of the main body 11 which extends between this groove 20 and the abutting end face of the main body 11 can be regarded as the head 23 of the connector 10.
The connecting fitting 5 also comprises a pipe section 25 which is provided with an internal thread 26. A through opening 27 is made in this pipe section 25 practically perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of this pipe section 25. The inner diameter of this pipe section 25 is larger than the diameter of the connector 10, so that the connector 10 can find place in the through opening 27.
The connecting fitting 10 also comprises a screw 30 which can be screwed into the threaded opening 26 in the pipe section 25. This screw 30 has a tip 31 which has the shape of a cone or a truncated cone. The inclination of the surface lines of this screw tip 31 is practically the same as the inclination of the flanks 21 and 22 in the groove 20 of the connector 10. When the grooved end 20 of the connector 10 is in the pipe section 25 and when the screw 30 is screwed into the pipe section 25, then at least one of the sides of the conical tip 31 of the screw 30 can rest on at least one of the flanks 21 or 22 of the groove 20 along the entire height of the screw tip 31. The screw 30 can be a stud screw.
To actuate this screw 30, the head region thereof can be designed with a recess for inserting a hexagon wrench or a screwdriver. Under certain circumstances, however, this screw 30 can also be a cap screw.
So that the individual furniture parts 1 to 3 can be connected to one another with the aid of this connecting fitting 5, it is necessary that one of these parts is provided with a threaded opening 13, in which the threaded pin 12 is screwed onto the connector 10. The remaining part 11 and 20 of the connector 10 then protrudes from the first furniture part 1, practically perpendicular to its surface. In a second furniture part 2 or 3, which is butt-connected to this first furniture part 1, there is a blind bore (not shown) which adjoins the abutment surface 14 of this further part 2 or 3 and extends into the interior of this part 2. At a distance from the abutment surface 14, a further bore 18 is made in the connected part 2 or 3, the longitudinal axis of which is practically perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the bore for receiving the connector 10.
In this transverse bore 18, which intersects with the longitudinal bore for receiving the connector 10, when the furniture parts are assigned to one another, the pipe section 25 with the screw 30 is located.
The distance of the axis of the transverse bore 18 from the abutment or end face 14 of the connected part 2 or 3, the length of the connector 10 projecting from the first furniture part 1 and the thickness of the wall of the pipe section 25 are dimensioned such that the groove 20 in Assembled state of two adjacent furniture parts in the pipe section 25. When the screw 30 is screwed into the pipe section 25, the tip 31 of this screw 30 comes to lie in the groove 20. As a result, the position of the connector 10 located in the connected furniture part is fixed therein.
In order for the connected furniture part to lie snugly against the first piece of furniture, it is expedient for the groove 20 to be set with respect to the tip 31 of the screw 30 such that the tip 31 is on that flank 22 of the groove while the screw 30 is tightened 20 rests and slides along this in the radial direction of the connector 10 against the center thereof, which abuts the head 23. This fine adjustment of the head-side flank 22 of the groove 20 can be achieved by a suitable measure of screwing the connector into the threaded opening 13 in the first furniture part 1.
The illustrated and relatively thin bars 2 and 3 can actually be connected to the first bar 1 with the aid of only a single connection fitting 5. This is because there is hardly any space in the relatively small butting surface 14 of these connecting beams 2 and 3 for several connecting fittings. Under such circumstances, it could happen that the connected furniture part 2 or 3 rotates about the axis of the connector 10 relative to the first furniture part 1.
In a further development of the present connection fitting, this is prevented in that the butt surface 14 of the connected or to be connected furniture part 2 or 3 is provided with a projection 35 which protrudes from the butt surface 14 of the same in the longitudinal direction of this furniture part. This projection 35 extends in the longitudinal direction of that of the furniture parts to which this furniture part provided with the projection 35 is or will be connected. The projection 35 can extend contiguously over the entire height of the connecting part 2 or 3. However, the projection 35 can also consist only of individual practical tooth-shaped sections (not shown). Seen perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of this projection 35, it has a practically triangular cross section.
The angle which the two side surfaces 36 and 37 of such a projection 35 close between them is advantageously a right one. The furniture part 1 carrying such a connection part 2 or 3 has a chamfer 38 in the region of one of its longitudinal edges and the inner side surface 36 of the projection 35 comes to lie on the surface of this chamfer 38 in the assembled state. This not only prevents the connector from twisting, but also improves the stability of the connector. In the chamfer 38 bores 39 lying one above the other can be made, which can serve to receive the pins of shelf supports or the like.
For corner connections, two furniture parts 2 and 3, which are at the same height, must be connected to a single furniture part 1. If each of the connection parts 2 and 3 is provided with the described projection 35, then the outer sides 37 of the projections 35 of these adjacent connection parts 2 and 3 lie on one another. First, this ensures the position of the adjacent connection parts, for example at a right angle to one another. If it is a lower corner connection, then the underside of the furniture part 1 can be provided with a foot 40. In the example shown, this foot 40 comprises an adjustable foot 28 which is screwed into a nut 29 embedded in the supporting furniture part 1.
As has already been mentioned, the furniture parts 1 to 3 can be provided with furrows 6. The furniture part 1 is provided with furrows 6 in several side surfaces in the example shown. The furrows 6, which are embodied in the side surfaces of the supporting furniture part 1 facing the connecting parts 2 and 3, serve, as has also already been described, for holding glass panes or the like itself to accommodate elongated links, such as electrical cables. So that the elongate member is as invisible as possible, a profile piece 34 is inserted in the outer edge region of the furrow 6, so that between this and the bottom of the furrow 6 there is a cavity for receiving the elongate member.
It goes without saying that furrows 6 partially filled with profiled strips 34 can also be implemented in the horizontal connecting parts 2 and 3, so that the elongate member can also be concealed in the horizontal direction.
