BESCHREIBUNG

2. Variante: Kalottentaste in Frontplatte
DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to a new type of key units for illuminated keys, pulse switches and short-stroke keys, such as those used to build up printed circuit boards, prints or similar contact carriers.
When mounting the key unit on the contact carriers mentioned, soldered connections should be avoided. Both the fastening of the key unit on the printed circuit board and the electrical contacts between the key unit and the printed circuit board should be solderless.
Previously manufactured key units for illuminated keys, pulse switches and short-stroke keys were generally fastened with solder connections. The electrical contacts were also soldered, which entailed additional drives during assembly. 1 shows the structure of the key unit
Fig. 2. Key unit built into the membrane keyboard
Fig. 3: key unit as a dome key
The structure shown in Fig. 1 shows the essential parts of the key unit. It consists of a key head 1, a light source 2 for key lighting and a plate spring 3 as a snap spring and the actual electrical switching contact. The light source 2 itself is fed via a separate circuit, the necessary electrical contact to the printed circuit board is made by the spiral spring 4.
The key unit is fixed on the contact carrier (printed circuit board, printed circuit board) by means of snap feet 5, which are pushed through suitable holes in the carrier plate and then spread apart. The key unit is thus fixed without solder joints. By pressing the spreading foot on the underside of the plate, the button unit can also be easily removed.
The actual electrical switching contact is a disc spring 3 placed between the key head 1 and the contact carrier plate 6, which resembles an x-shaped piece of sheet metal that is curved toward the center like a dome. It is provided with guide pins 13 at two corner points, which prevent the plate spring from moving.
The electrical contact for the circuit is produced in that one or more corners of the plate spring are in constant contact with a conductor track point 7 on the printed circuit board and thus z. B. represent the plus pole. The minus pole, on the other hand, is formed with the dome in the middle of the plate spring 3 by briefly flicking downwards when the button unit is pressed, thus generating a current pulse.
This electrical impulse then drives an electronic circuit (e.g. a flip-flop), which then z. B. turns a continuous current on or off from the pulse. From here, the light source can then be supplied via the contact of the spiral spring 4 during the switch-on phase. This is a contact that is permanently secured thanks to the spiral spring. The button head consists of a plastic body, which also serves as a light diffuser and which ensures uniform illumination of the button surface.
Since the plate spring only has to be pushed in a minimum distance until it jumps, this is a short-stroke key. In addition, this disc spring has the advantage that it emits a quiet crackling sound when jumping, which later gives the operator the pleasant certainty that he has actually operated the switch. The lighting source 2, which lights up when the button is switched on, also provides further operational safety.
In the embodiment described, it is also open whether the electronics with the flip-flops are located on the printed circuit board as described here or are even installed in the key unit itself.
The following variants are conceivable as possible uses of the described key unit: 1st variant: membrane keyboard
This is shown in FIG. 2, which shows how the entire keyboard, consisting of individual key units, is covered with a film 9. To make this possible, spacers 8 and carrier plates 10 are mounted between the key units. According to the invention, however, the key units themselves could simply be plugged onto the contact carrier plate 6 (printed circuit board).
2nd variant: calotte button in the front panel
This is shown in FIG. 3, in which it can be seen that an exchangeable labeling film 12 can be placed on the key unit. A cap 11 is then placed over the labeling film 12 and the key head 1.
This cap is prevented from falling out by the front plate 10 thanks to its circumferential projecting collar 14. The front plate itself is firmly connected to the contact carrier plate 6 with the spacer 8.
From the above description it can be seen that this is a valuable invention in which valuable time can be saved due to the simple solder-free assembly and in which the entire soldering problem with the risk of solder breakage or burned solder joints with all their loose contacts is eliminated. In short: a clean, safe and inexpensive key unit.
