Abstract
A mixt. contg. 50kg of purified Sumatran benzoin, 5kg of benzyl benzoate, 1 l of cinnamaldehyde, 1 l of ethyl benzoate, 0.5kq of Peru balsam, 2kg of cinnamic acid 2.5kg of benzoic acid, 3og of vanilla and 10g of coumarin is claimed. USE - The mixt. has the medical and pharmaceutical applns. of natural balsam of Tolu extracted from Myroxylon balsamum (Colombia).
Description
DESCRIPTION
Benjoin, Sumatra N" I (cassé) 25 kg
DESCRIPTION
This composition can be used for all applications in medicine and in pharmacy of the natural Tolu balm extracted from
Myroxylon balsamum (Colombia) and passes all analytical tests and all pharmacopoeias.
For the preparation of the mixture as defined in the claim, we recommend using a battery of 4, 6 or 8 heated containers, each having a capacity of 90 liters.
The first five ingredients are incorporated into each heated container. Heat gently, stirring occasionally until benzoin is incorporated into the liquid ingredients. The following four ingredients are then added, stirring frequently.
Finally, the hot and homogeneous liquid is filtered on a metal filter and collected in buckets. We pour the content of
buckets in the desired containers.
Preparation of purified benzoin
Benzoin, Sumatra N "I (broken) 25 kg
Industrial ethyl alcohol 1001
Place the ingredients in an appropriate container and stir regularly until the benzoin is completely extracted. The container must be covered to avoid excessive evaporation.
Siphon the benzoin alcoholic extract and pour into a still. Separate the alcohol by distillation and condense it for reuse. The purified benzoin soluble in alcohol must be collected in a metal box.
The resin collected is solid, brittle, with the appearance of caramel.
It can be easily broken with a hammer or wooden mallet for weighing. Pour it into a heated container and add the benzyl benzoate.
The residue remaining in the container after siphoning off the benzoin alcoholic extract can be washed with alcohol to be used for the next operation, which minimizes wastage of the ingredients.
