BESCHREIBUNG
DESCRIPTION
The invention relates to a welding sleeve made of thermoplastic material, with at least one internal electrical heating conductor which is intended to connect lines made of thermoplastic material to one another by fusing the thermoplastic material of the sleeve and lines, and with a device for indicating a fusion that has taken place.
Such a aforementioned welding sleeve is known from CH-PS 632 078. In this known welding sleeve, the display device consists of a recess in the thermoplastic sleeve material, the base of which is in the vicinity of the heating conductor. During the melting process, the melted thermoplastic material penetrates through this recess and is visible as a pin. From such a peg made of thermoplastic material, it can then be seen whether welding, i. H. Merging between the sleeve and the lines has occurred. Visible cones are thus formed in the known welding sleeve. This material comes from the welding socket and also from the pipes.
It has been shown in practice that cavities can form in the thermoplastic material between the welding sleeve and the lines when the pins are formed. Such voids can adversely affect the tightness of the weld. Since gases also arise during the welding process, that is to say when the thermoplastic material of the welding sleeve and the lines are melted, thermoplastic material in the form of the aforementioned pins is easily pushed outwards by gas pressure through the aforementioned recess. An entire network of interconnected blowholes can be formed in this way. At these points, there was no fusion between the sleeve and the lines.
The wire windings of the electrical heating conductor have also been strongly deformed as cones when the molten material emerges and could prematurely end a perfect welding process until the end of a desired welding period.
The aim is to create an improved welding sleeve, with which the aforementioned disadvantages can be avoided.
The welding sleeve according to the invention is characterized in that radially outside the heating conductor in the thermoplastic sleeve material there is at least one recess with a trough-shaped sectional profile which extends radially towards the heating conductor and in which there is at least one radially outwardly projecting display tab, the trough-shaped sectional profile having a first and a first has a second flank lying at an axial distance from one another, and that when the merging has not taken place, the display tab is at a distance from the first and second flanks, and that when the merging of the display tabs has taken place, the second flank lies so closely that the display flap itself with its third flank Flank of the trough-shaped section profile forms.
An exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown below. Show it:
1 part of a welding sleeve with two line sections, in longitudinal section, before the welding process,
Fig. 2 shows a part of the welding sleeve with a line in the illustration of FIG. 1, immediately after the welding process, and
Fig. 3 is a same view of the welding sleeve with line as in Fig. 2, after the welding process and after cooling of the welding sleeve and line.
The welding sleeve 1 has an internal electrical heating conductor 2 and 3. Each heating conductor consists of a wire coil, which in the example shown is embedded in a wire coil which, in the example shown, is embedded in the thermoplastic sleeve material. The welding sleeve 1 is intended to connect lines 4 and 5 made of thermoplastic material to one another by fusing the thermoplastic material of sleeve 1 and lines 4.5.
Radially outside the heating conductor 2 there is a recess 6 in the thermoplastic sleeve material which extends radially towards the heating conductor 2 and has a trough-shaped sectional profile, which is formed by a first flank 7, a second flank 8 and a base 9. The first and second flanks 7 and 8 are axially spaced from one another. A radially outwardly projecting display tab 10 is located within the recess. From FIG. 1 it can be seen that the display tab is at a distance from the first and second flanks 7, 8. The display flap 10 has a third flank 11 and a fourth flank 12. The third flank 11 of the display flap 10 is rounded off at the peripheral edge 13.
To connect the two lines 4 and 5, their line ends are inserted into the welding sleeve 1, with a play-related clearance 14 being present between the sleeve 1 and the line 4. The same also applies between sleeve 1 and line 5. In the example shown, the heating conductor 2 is located in the area of line 4, and this in turn is assigned a recess 6 with a display tab 10. In a manner not shown, the welding sleeve 1 shown in FIG. 1 also has a recess 6, which is assigned to the heating conductor 3 and has a display tab 10, which in FIG. 1 are to the right of the sleeve part shown. In the following, only the fusion by means of the heating conductor 2, that is to say the fusion between sleeve 1 and line 4, will be explained.
If a voltage is applied to the heating conductor 2, the thermoplastic material surrounding the heating conductor 2 is melted from the socket 1 and the line 4, the melt filling the play 14 between the socket 1 and the line 4. During this melting process, gases are formed in the melt, which cause the base 9 to be curved, as shown in FIG. 2.
The indicator lobe assumes the inclined position 10 'shown in FIG. 2. Immediately after the fusion of sleeve 1 with line 4 has taken place, that is if there is still a flowable melt in the area of the heating conductor 2, the sleeve 1 with line 4 has approximately the appearance shown in FIG. 2. When the melt cools, solidification occurs first at the axial end 15 of the sleeve, since this area is further away from the heating conductor 2 than the areas lying axially further inward. It has now surprisingly been found that when the thermoplastic material of sleeve 1 and line 4 adjacent to heating conductor 2 solidifies, the material shrinks to such an extent that base 9, which is convex in FIG. 2, assumes the shape shown in FIG. 3.
The thermoplastic material radially surrounding the heating conductor 2 is thus drawn in radially, the display flap moving into the position 10 ″ and in this case fitting against the second flank 8 of the recess 6 so that the flap 10 itself, with its third flank 11, forms a flank of the trough-shaped sectional profile of the recess 6 according to FIG. 3.
As already mentioned, the welding sleeve 1 is also provided with such a recess 6 and a display tab 10 located in the other end region (not shown), these components 6, 10 being assigned to the heating conductor 3 indicated in FIG. 1.
1 and 3 it is clearly evident that a different appearance of the welding sleeve in the region of the recess 6 can be seen at a glance. In Fig. 1 there is a free-standing display tab 10, which is no longer recognizable as such in the view in Fig. 3. It can thus be determined optically at a glance whether the welding sleeve has been properly welded to the lines 4, 5. In order to indicate this even more clearly, the flanks 8, 12 and / or the base 9 between the flanks 8, 12 can be of a different color than the rest of the thermoplastic sleeve material. This different color is then no longer visible after the perfect welding according to FIG. 3.
In a preferred embodiment of the welding sleeve, the recess 6 was designed as an annular groove and the display tab 10 as a circumferential ring. In another exemplary embodiment, there could also be a plurality of recesses 6 distributed over the circumference of the sleeve, so that there are then also a plurality of display tabs 10 distributed over the circumference of the sleeve.
In a further exemplary embodiment, not shown, the heating conductor 2 or 3 could also be designed as a circular cylinder which is axially inserted into an outer thermoplastic jacket of the sleeve material. In this case, the turns of the heating conductor 2 would no longer be embedded in the sleeve material, as shown, but the heating conductor would be present as a separate component (circular cylinder) which is inserted into the interior of the remaining sleeve before the welding process. Such a circular cylinder is then embedded in the thermoplastic material of sleeve 1 and line 4 or 5 after the welding process in the same manner shown in FIG. 3.
