REVENDICATIONS

CLAIMS
1. Door seal, characterized in that it is made of a heat intumescent material.
2. Joint according to claim 1, characterized in that the material comprises a powder having the ability to expand when exposed to the flame.
3. Joint according to claim 2, characterized in that the powder is bonded by a rubber.
4. Joint according to claim 1, characterized in that it is coated with a film (30) capable of igniting spontaneously.
The present invention relates to a door seal.
One of the most common causes of loss of life in fires is the spread of highly toxic gases through the slots around the doors to rooms that are not yet directly affected by the flames. There is currently no effective remedy against this spread or against the progression of the fire through these same openings.
The present invention proposes to fill this gap by producing a door seal characterized in that it is made of a material intumescent to heat.
The present invention will be better understood with reference to the description of exemplary embodiments and the attached drawing in which:
Fig. 1 illustrates a cross-sectional view of a door equipped with a first embodiment of a seal according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to that of FIG. 1 illustrating the state and role of this seal during a fire.
Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view of a door equipped with a second embodiment of a seal according to the invention, and
Fig. 4 is a view similar to that of FIG. 3 illustrating the state and
the role of this joint during a fire.
Fig. I schematically represents a door 10 bearing against its frame 11. and providing with the latter a slot 12 occupied by an intumescent fire-resistant seal 13. This joint can have any profile adapted to the profile of the slot 12. It is composed of a powder having the ability to expand when exposed to flame and a rubber-based binder. Such a powder is for example marketed by Laboratoires LU RIE in Paris under the trade name VETO.
As shown in fig. 2, when the seal is exposed to the flame 14, the intumescent powder forms a kind of meringue 15 which closes the slot 12 and forms a tight barrier opposing the propagation of gases, fumes, dust and the flame itself for a period of at least thirty minutes. This joint therefore plays the role of a firebreak.
As the expansion of the intumescent seal does not generally take place until it is directly exposed to the flame, it can be advantageous. as shown in fig. 3, to equip the seal 23 housed in the slot 22 formed between the door 20 and its frame 21 with a film 30 for example made of nitrocellulose capable of igniting spontaneously when it is exposed to temperatures above a determined temperature called flammability threshold. The heat waves materialized by the arcs of a circle 24 penetrate into the slot 22 and cause the film 30 to ignite. The purpose of this inflammation is to generate the flame necessary to cause the expansion of the intumescent seal 23.
Fig. 4 illustrates the state of this joint, the part of which faces the part which constitutes a fire, has formed a kind of meringue 25 which completely closes off the corresponding part of the slot 22 and provides, as before, an effective barrier against gas and flames. The installation of such a seal can be validly considered in chalets, to insulate the hatches which separate the attic from the habitable parts of a house, in hangars, wood depots, industrial premises containing chemicals including flammable products. explosives and wherever a fire door is required.
