I est une vue de face de la pince, selon une première forme d'exécution;
la fig. 2 est une vue en coupe partielle, selon le plan indiqué par la ligne Il-Il à la fig. 1, de la pince selon la forme d'exécution illustrée à la fig. 1, mise en place sur la broche d'un tour au moyen d'un dispositif de fixation de type connu;
la fig. 3 est une vue en coupe partielle, selon le même plan de coupe que dans le cas de la fig. 2, à échelle légèrement agrandie par rapport à celle-ci, montrant la manière dont s'effectue la mise en place de l'arrêt de pince par rapport à la broche du tour, dans le cas de la forme d'exécution illustrée aux fig. 1 et 2;

The present invention relates to a funnel pliers for machine tool headstock, in particular for lathes and milling machines, provided with a spindle, comprising a part called a bell, having a flared opening, the front part of the pliers having a conical external shape. , corresponding to that of the opening of the bell, and being pulled into this opening so as to clamp a workpiece.
There are different kinds of pliers called funnel pliers or bell pliers which are intended to be mounted on the spindle of a machine tool such as a lathe or a milling machine, by clamping the workpiece, so as to allow mounting and quick disassembly of this part. In known type funnel pliers, the workpiece is clamped inside an opening made in the front part of the pliers. which has a conical outer shape and which is pulled through the opening. of corresponding shape of a part called bell, fixed on the spindle of the machine tool.
When using such funnel pliers, the thickness dimensions of the workpiece, corresponding to the length to be machined, are fixed by means of bearing plates or stops. In some cases, these stops are machined inside the clamp, which does not prevent a certain variation in the length to be machined depending on the dimensions of the part in the clamping direction. According to another known arrangement, the funnel clamp comprises fixed stops held against the bell by screwing. The latter type of funnel pliers has the drawback of not making it possible to pass from one machine to another without modifying the adjustment of the position of the workpiece in the pliers.
The object of the invention is to eliminate the drawbacks of known funnel pliers and in particular to allow adjustment of the thickness to be machined independently of the dimensions of the workpiece in the clamping direction, as well as the transfer of the pliers carrying the workpiece. machine from one machine to another, without having to redo a new setting of the workpiece.
To this end, the funnel tongs according to the invention have the characteristics specified in claim 1.
The invention will be better understood thanks to the detailed description which follows, by way of nonlimiting example, of two embodiments of the funnel part according to the invention and of a particular embodiment, in accordance with the invention, of the device for fixing this clamp on the spindle of a machine tool, with reference to the appended drawing, in which:
fig.
I is a front view of the clamp, according to a first embodiment;
fig. 2 is a partial sectional view, along the plane indicated by the line Il-Il in FIG. 1, of the pliers according to the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 1, placed on the spindle of a lathe by means of a fixing device of known type;
fig. 3 is a partial sectional view, along the same section plane as in the case of FIG. 2, on a slightly enlarged scale with respect to the latter, showing the manner in which the positioning of the clamp stop is carried out relative to the spindle of the lathe, in the case of the embodiment illustrated in FIGS. . 1 and 2;
fig. 4 is a sectional view of the clamp fixing device, and
fig. 5 is a partial sectional view, similar to FIG. 2, of the clamp, according to a second embodiment.
According to the embodiment shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the funnel clamp I is housed in a bell 2 which is screwed onto the spindle 3 by one turn, the body 10 of the pliers being inserted in an axial bore 16 formed in the spindle 3 and fixed, removably, inside this bore by suitable means well known (not shown). These means tend to pull the body 10 of the clamp I inside the bore 16, so that the side wall of the flared front part 17 of the clamp 1 comes to bear against the side wall of the opening. inside of the bell 2.
A stop 4, introduced inside the clamp I from the front thereof, is guided and maintained by four elastic legs 5 inside the bore 16. The position of the stop face 6 of the stop 4, relative to the spindle 3, is perfectly defined by the fact that the legs 5 each have a bearing face 7 which abut on the anterior end of the nose 8 of the spindle 3.
It is therefore understood that the position of the stop face and, consequently, that of the workpiece (not shown) wedged between the stop face 6 and jaws 9 which are fixed by means of screws 15 on the part front 17 of the clamp 1, are independent of the degree of insertion of the part into the bell 2.
The adjustment in position, in the axial direction, of the workpiece can therefore be carried out very precisely without any possible variations of the workpiece affecting this adjustment. In addition, the clamp 1, provided with the stop 4 and carrying the workpiece, can
be removed from spindle 3 without any effect on the setting of the workpiece position. This allows the exchange of a machine to another, for example a turn on a milling machine, rigorously keeping the initial setting dimensions. You can also store the clamp I carrying the workpiece while keeping the initial setting.
It should be noted that, since the stop 4 may possibly extend beyond the front face of the front part 17 of the clamp 1, it is perfectly possible to fix on the clamp 1 workpieces having dimensions greater than those of side 6 of the stop.
The body 10 of the clamp 1 comprises an intermediate portion 12 of reduced diameter which can be, for example, produced by turning, intended to come opposite a locking key 11 which is disposed inside the bore 16 The reduction in the diameter of the body 10 in the intermediate portion 12 is intended to prevent the locking of the clamp 1 in an angular position relative to the spindle 3, which makes the clamp integral in rotation with the spindle, performs in the usual way, that is to say by engagement of the key 11 in an axial groove made in the body 10.
As seen in fig. 1, the locking in rotation of the clamp 1 relative to the spindle 3 is effected by means of a key 13 which is housed in grooves 14 and 14 'formed, respectively, in the periphery of the front part 17 of the clamp 1 and in the side wall of the internal opening of the bell 2. This makes it possible to increase the precision of the adjustment of the angular position of the clamp 1, and therefore of the workpiece, relative to the pin 3.
Of course, the body 10 of the clamp 1 could possibly not include the part of reduced diameter 12, the clamp 1 being, in this case, made integral in rotation with the spindle 3 in the usual way, by means of the key 11 .
The fixing device shown in fig. 4 comprises an annular ring or sleeve 30, screwed onto the nose of the spindle 3 (the screwing of this ring being advantageously carried out by means of a lug wrench), the peripheral surface of which constitutes a sliding surface allowing the advantages inherent in the use of the funnel forceps according to the invention.
According to the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 5, the arrangement as well as the operation of the clamp 1 are similar to those which have just been described. However, the stop 4 comprises, in replacement of the elastic legs 5, four rods 18 (only three of which are visible in FIG. 5) passing through holes made in the bottom of the opening 21 of the front part 17 of the clamp 1. The rods 18 are each surrounded by a spring 19, working in compression, which is held by a clip 20 and which tends to pull the stop 4 against the bottom of the opening 21. The free ends of the rods 18 form stops which come to rest either on the nose 8 of the spindle 3 or on the bell 2, according to the respective diameters of the spindle 3 and of the bell 2, when the clamp 1 is placed on the spindle 3.
Thus, also in this embodiment, the position of the stop face 6 of the stop 4 is independent of the degree of insertion of the clamp 1 in the bell 2 and the same advantages are obtained as in the case of the embodiment illustrated in figs. 1 to 3.
The stop 4 is guided in the clamp 1 and maintained in a perfectly concentric position with respect thereto, even for high rotational speeds of the spindle 3, by means of an O-ring 23, made of elastic material, for example rubber , housed in a peripheral groove 24 of the stop 4 and coming to bear on the inside of the opening 21.
The pliers which have just been described have, in addition to the abovementioned advantages, that of facilitating the execution of series of workpieces machined at the same dimensions with great precision, by first making a plurality of stops, corresponding to stop 4 described above, planed together and then mounting each of these stops in pliers.
It will be readily understood that the pliers according to the invention can be used not only with a lathe but also with a milling machine, a pointing machine or any other machine suitable for the use of funnel pliers of known type.
