SE AS 391 792).
Fig. 2 analoge Schnitte für eine Axialdichtung, und

The present invention relates to a sealing ring according to the introductory part of patent claim 1 and a method for producing the same.
A sealing ring of this type is already known (see SE AS 391 792). In this sealing ring, a sealing lip is pivotally connected to the base body of the ring, and the sealing lip is separated from the base body only by a narrow gap. If the sealing lip of such a sealing ring is loaded in the direction of the base body, it will initially yield without any significant resistance.
If the applied force increases to a value which is always given with the usual pre-tensioning during operation, the entrance of the gap closes and the sealing lip is subjected to considerable bending stress, which opposes it with elastic resistance. A disadvantage of this known sealing ring is the fact that the bending stress of the sealing lip supported in its central region with a closed gap on the base body causes the lips to lie against the surface to be sealed over a large area. The considerable forces acting between the sealing lip and the surface to be sealed are thus distributed over a larger area, the desired, well-defined high line pressure does not occur anywhere and the abrasion on the contact surface is considerable.
The invention avoids the disadvantages of the known types of sealing rings by a measure which is defined in the characterizing part of patent claim 1.
The pad, which is to consist of a lubricious material with high abrasion resistance, for example polytetrafluoroethylene, preferably has only a very small thickness so as not to significantly reduce the elastically effective part of the sealing lip.
In conventional use, the proposed sealing ring forms a seal between two mutually enclosing cylindrical surfaces which move against one another in the axial or in the circumferential direction. It does not matter whether the sealing ring is attached to the outer or inner surface. The sealing lip thus points inwards or outwards. While the applicability in pneumatic, hydraulic or non-pressurized facilities has been proven, the most striking advances have been made in relation to the state of the art in pneumatic devices which have to work with oil-free air according to the latest regulations, which leads to considerable wear and tear with pure rubber seals.
If the specified type of use is an exclusive one, it is sufficient to ensure that the support covers the entire area of the sealing lip, which reaches the point furthest away from the base body during the closing of the gap. However, if the sealing ring is to be used to rest on a surface that is normal to the cylinder surfaces between which the sealing ring is enclosed (axial seal), the area of the sealing lip that is furthest in the direction of the one to be sealed must be provided again Surface protrudes. It should be taken into account that the intended gap opens and does not close in this load case.
The embodiment of an axial seal according to the invention is particularly advantageous if it can optionally also be used as a radial seal, for which purpose it is necessary, however, to provide both areas of the lip edge which are considered as contact surfaces with a (preferably common) support.
Further details of the invention are subsequently explained, for example, with reference to the drawings.
It shows:
1 shows the section through a radial seal in various stages of clamping,
Fig. 2 analog sections for an axial seal, and
Fig. 3 shows an optionally suitable for receiving loads in the radial or axial direction also in section.
The sealing ring shown in FIG. 1 consists of a basic body 1 which is approximately rectangular in cross section, to which a sealing lip 2 adjoins, which is connected to the basic body at the point of its smallest thickness and has an approximately triangular cross section. A narrow gap 4 with parallel boundary walls extends between the sealing lip 2 and the base body 1, which increasingly disappears in the radial direction when the sealing lip is loaded. The gap 4 initially allows a pivoting of the sealing lip with little effort and thus easy assembly of the sealing ring. As soon as the gap 4 has closed, the elastic tension in the sealing lip 2 increases
substantially, whereby, as can be seen from FIG. 1, a different degree of deformation can be selected. In any case, during operation the sealing ring with that exact narrow area of the support 3 bears against the surface 5 to be sealed, at which it has a kink 6. It should be noted that the support 3, despite its small thickness, is only subject to slight changes in shape due to the material used, so that there is a well-defined contact zone in each operating mode.
What has been said so far applies mutatis mutandis also in the case shown in FIG. 2, where the loading of the sealing lip 2 takes place in the direction of an enlargement of the gap 4, since the surface 5 to be sealed runs normal to the cylinder surfaces between which the sealing ring is enclosed.
The invention shows its particular advantage when it comes to creating a sealing ring which can be used both under radial and axial loads, as shown in FIG. 3. Here the support 3 is attached in such a way that it covers that region of the sealing lip which is stressed by the surface 5 or 5 'to be sealed, regardless of the deformation of the gap 4, both in one load case and the other.
The types of rubber normally used are suitable for the production of the sealing ring according to the invention. The pad can be made from any plastic with high wear resistance and low coefficient of friction, which combines well with the material of the sealing lip.
The support and the rubber part of the sealing ring can be produced in separate operations and connected in a third operation by vulcanization. However, it has proven to be particularly favorable that the overlay made of a superpolyamide, polytetrafluoroethylene or the like is produced as a shaped body in one operation, in a second operation after chemical surface treatment of the surface to be adhered to and subsequent application of an adhesive in the mold for the base body and sealing lip is inserted and in a subsequent operation the preferably room temperature molding compound made of butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber, fluoroelastomer rubber, chloroprene rubber or the like is introduced into the mold and vulcanized therein in connection with the support.
