The invention relates to a cabinet heater with a PTC element as a resistance heating element, in which the PTC element is inserted into a receptacle of a contact body made of heat-conducting material, in which the contact body is designed as a one-piece profile section with a radiator and in which the connections of the PTC element is connected to the wires of a connection cable which is led out of the receptacle of the contact body.
Such a cabinet heater is known from DE-OS 29 02 909. This well-known control cabinet heater is characterized by improved control properties and a mode of operation that is not susceptible to faults, since the PTC element stabilizes itself.
In the known control cabinet heater, the connection cable is connected directly to the connections of the PTC element and this unit is inserted into a receptacle of the contact body. The hold of the PTC element in the contact body is achieved by cementing with silicone rubber.
This electrical connection of the PTC element does not correspond to protection class II according to VDE regulations, since current-carrying parts are only insulated in the contact body. In addition, the hold of the PTC element in the contact body is not sufficient, since tensile forces on the connection cable are transmitted directly to the connection points between the connection cable and the PTC element or between the PTC element and the contact body.
It is an object of the invention to provide a cabinet heater of the type mentioned at the outset which corresponds to protection class II according to the VDE standards and in which the hold of the PTC element in the contact body is not influenced by tensile forces on the connecting cable.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that the connection point between the PTC element and the connecting cable by means of one made of two plastic parts
Composite sleeve is covered that the two plastic parts of the composite sleeve are formed in the region of the outwardly facing end face as a strain relief for the connecting cable and that the two plastic parts of the composite sleeve are fixed in an end region of the continuous receptacle of the contact body. The sleeve composed of the two plastic parts provides double insulation of the current-carrying parts in the connection area between the connection cable and the PTC element, so that the requirements of protection class II according to the VDE standards are met. In addition, these plastic parts also provide strain relief for the connection cable in a simple manner.
The PTC element and the connection between the PTC element and the connection cable are therefore no longer influenced by tensile forces on the connection cable.
According to a preferred embodiment, the sleeve composed of the two plastic parts is connected to the contact body in that the contact body is designed as a tube, on which the ribs are integrally formed as a radiator, that the inner receptacle of the tube has two sections of different diameter at one end and that the two plastic parts of the assembled sleeve are axially fixed in these expanded sections of the tube.
The axial, immovable fixing is achieved in that the two plastic parts of the assembled sleeve are inserted up to the inner shoulder of the pipe section formed by the first enlarged inner section and in that collar parts of the two plastic parts of the assembled sleeve in the second enlarged outer section with a larger diameter Deformation of the protruding parts of the pipe section are defined in the same.
According to a further preferred embodiment, the assembly of the two plastic parts into a closed sleeve is facilitated in that the plastic parts of the assembled sleeve are designed as identical half-shells and are provided along their longitudinal edges with mutually offset connecting webs which are arranged and designed such that two around 180 mutually twisted parts can be plugged together to form a sleeve. The connecting webs of the two plastic parts overlap when assembling and also serve as a guide when assembling.
So that the assembled sleeve can cover the connection area between the connecting cable and the PTC element, which can comprise a separate connector, it is preferably provided that the receiving space formed by the inner diameter of the assembled sleeve is larger in diameter than a double connector, which connects the two Connections of the PTC element with the two wires of the connection cable. This double connector, which can be designed as a clamp, screw or crimp connector, makes it easier to replace the PTC element.
For complete coverage, according to a further development, it is provided that the axial length of the receiving space formed by the assembled sleeve extends from the end face of the PTC element over the double connector and the exposed wires of the connecting cable to part of the connecting cable.
The strain relief for the connection cable can be obtained in the simplest manner on the assembled sleeve in that the plastic parts of the assembled sleeve in the area that covers part of the connection cable have an inner receptacle with reduced diameter with transverse webs as strain relief. It can be provided that the two plastic parts of the assembled sleeve with the end area designed as a strain relief partially protrude from the receptacle of the contact body designed as a tube section. This has the advantage that the continuous reception in the contact body can be optimally used for the PTC element used.
In order that the PTC element inserted into the continuous receptacle of the contact body does not impair the fixing of the assembled sleeve in the region of the two differently expanded sections of the receptacle of the contact body, it is provided according to a further preferred embodiment that the outside diameter of the PTC element corresponds to the inside diameter of the is designed as a tubular section that one side of the continuous receptacle of the contact body is closed by means of a cover plate, that the PTC element is inserted into the contact body as far as it will go on the cover plate, and that the axial length of the PTC element is matched in this way that its end face is flush with the connections flush with the inner shoulder of the contact body formed by the first expanded inner section of the tube section.
Finally, for the definite axial fixing of the assembled sleeve in the contact body, the design can be carried out in such a way that the axial length of the two plastic parts of the assembled sleeve up to their collar parts is greater than the axial length of the first expanded inner section of the contact body that the collar parts are attached to the parts of the assembled sleeve are arranged such that they lie approximately in the middle of the second enlarged outer section of the contact body and that the outer diameter of the assembled collar corresponds to the inner diameter of the second enlarged outer section of the contact body.
The invention is explained in more detail using an exemplary embodiment shown in the drawings. It shows:
I - a longitudinal section through the cabinet heater,
2 is a view of the end face of the contact body, on which the composite sleeve is fixed with the connecting cable,
3 shows an enlarged longitudinal section through a plastic part of the assembled sleeve,
4 the plastic part according to FIG. 3, seen in the convex receptacle,
5 is a view of the end face of the plastic part,
6 shows a cross section through the plastic part along the line VI-VI of FIG. 3,
Fig. 7 on a reduced scale the sleeve composed of two identical plastic parts and
Fig. 8 shows the view of the end face of the sleeve with the strain relief.
As FIGS. 1 and 2 show, in the control cabinet heater according to the invention the contact carrier 11 and the radiator 10 are constructed as a one-piece profile section. The contact body 11 forms a tube with a continuous receptacle 16, on which protruding ribs 12 are formed. In addition, fastening webs 13 are formed on the tube, to which a fastening plate 14 is screwed by means of screws 15. This mounting plate 14 is matched in a known manner to the mounting rails fastened in the control cabinet. The design of the fastening plate can be different and is not important in connection with the present invention.
One end of the continuous receptacle 16 of the tube is closed by means of a cover plate 19 which is inserted and fixed in an expanded section of the receptacle 16, which is e.g. can be achieved by caulking or the like. The diameter of the receptacle 16 is matched to the outside diameter of the PTC element 20, so that it is in good thermal contact with the tube as the contact body 11. This contact body 11 can with the ribs 12 as a radiator 10 e.g. be produced as an extruded aluminum profile.
The receptacle 16 is widened twice in diameter at the unclosed end, so that the inside widened. first section 17 and the outer expanded second section 18 with the larger diameter. The first section 17 extends so far that the inner shoulder formed thereby is approximately flush with the end face of the PTC element 20 provided with the connections 22 and 23. The PTC element 20 inserted into the receptacle 16 lies against the cover plate 19 and is held axially immovably by a sleeve composed of the two plastic parts 30 and 30 '. This composite sleeve is fixed in the region of the expanded sections 17 and 18 of the receptacle 16 in the contact body 11, as will be shown.
The PTC element 20 represents a resistor with two connections, which protrude from the cylindrical element as wires 22 and 23 via the cable 21. These wires 22 and 23 of the cable 21 are connected to one another in a known manner by means of a double connector 24 with the two wires 25 and 26 of the connecting cable 27. The double connector 24 can be designed as a clamp, screw or crimp connector.
The sleeve composed of the plastic parts 30 and 30 'now has two functions, it covers the connection points between the PTC element 20 and the connection cable 27 in an insulating manner and at the same time provides strain relief for the connection cable 27. The insulating cover of the connection points between the PTC element Element 20 and the connection cable 27 meet the requirements placed on a device of protection class II according to the VDE standards. The strain relief of the connection cable 27 in this form does not influence the hold of the PTC element 20 in the receptacle 16 of the contact body 11 and keeps the tensile forces on the connection cable 27 away from the PTC element 20.
As FIGS. 3 to 6 show, the plastic parts 30 and 30 'are designed identically as half-shells. On the longitudinal edges they are provided with the connecting webs 33 and 35, which are offset against one another on the inside and the other on the outside of the half-shell, so that an inner receptacle 34 and an outer receptacle 36 form next to the connecting web 35 . This asymmetrical arrangement of the connecting webs 33 and 35 means that two identical plastic parts 30 and 30 'can be put together as a closed sleeve, which form a closed receiving space 38, as shown in FIGS. 7 and 8. The connecting webs 33 and 35 of the plastic part 30 are inserted into the inner receptacle 34 and outer receptacle 36 of the plastic part 30 '.
The outside diameter of the assembled sleeve is matched to the inside diameter of the section 17 of the receptacle 16, so that the inserted sleeve is kept in the assembled state.
At one end, the plastic parts 30 and 30 'are provided with projecting collar parts 31 and 31' which form a circumferential collar in the assembled sleeve.
In this area, the plastic parts 30 and 30 'are additionally designed such that they form a strain relief receptacle 37 with a smaller cross section for the connecting cable 27. The plastic parts 30 and 30 'in this strain relief receptacle 37 have transverse webs 32 and 32' which are pressed into the connecting cable 27 like a barb, as can be seen in FIG. 1.
Before inserting the PTC element 20, the two plastic parts 30 and 30 'are plugged onto the connection cable 27, whereby they rest on the end face of the PTC element 20 and completely cover the entire connection area between the connection cable 27 and the PTC element 20 cover. The receiving space 38, which is formed by the assembled sleeve, extends from the PTC element 20 over the double connector 24 and the exposed wires 25 and 26, and also holds part of the unchanged connecting cable 27. The plastic parts 30 and 30 'are now designed with the collar parts 31 and 31 'in such a way that the composite sleeve introduced into the section 17 of the receptacle 16 comes to rest with the collar in the section 18.
There is a distance from the assembled collar both to the inner shoulder formed by the section 18 and to the front end of the contact body 11 in order to be able to compensate for any tolerances. The parts of the tube projecting over the collar in the area of section 18 can be deformed and used for the definite axial fixing of the assembled sleeve. The end region of the plastic parts 30 and 30 'used as a strain relief receptacle 37 can partially protrude from the contact body 11.
The outside diameter of the collar of the assembled sleeve is designed for the inside diameter of section 18 of receptacle 16.
However, it is also within the scope of the invention to fix the sleeve composed of the two plastic parts 30 and 30 'solely by a snug fit and a press fit in a correspondingly designed enlarged section 17 of the contact body 11 if only low tensile forces can occur on the connecting cable 27. Then the section 1-8 of the receptacle 16 and the collar parts 31 and 31 'on the plastic parts 30 and 30' can be omitted.
