In letzterer liegen stabförmige Heizkörper 33.

The invention relates to a method for thermal metal extraction, in which the metal is obtained via the vapor phase with subsequent condensation, an oven and a condenser being under a reduced pressure or an atmosphere from an inert gas to avoid re-oxidation of the metal.
Various processes for thermal metal extraction are known in pyrometallurgy, in particular non-ferrous metals. Volatile metals, such as
Magnesium, can be obtained pyrometallurgically via the vapor phase. As with all light metals, a pre-refined starting material must be available for the reduction. Silicothermal reduction, in which ferrosilicon is added to the debris material, is already known.
The aim is to create an improved process of the type mentioned, the process to be created should work more economically than the known processes.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that a rotary hearth furnace is used in which the reaction material is continuously applied to the rotating, ring-shaped furnace hearth and the solid is discharged continuously after one rotation of the furnace hearth, during which rotation the volatile reaction gases first and then the volatile metal continuously withdrawn in the vapor phase, whereupon the latter condenses continuously to achieve continuous metal extraction.
Continuous operation can now be achieved by using a rotary hearth furnace known per se for thermal metal extraction. Since the rotary hearth furnace known per se has only been used to heat blocks, e.g. was used in tube plants in order to preheat the raw blocks before the subsequent processing, the rotary hearth furnace used to use the method according to the invention must have a special design. The device according to the invention for carrying out the method is characterized in that the rotary hearth furnace has a gas-tight outer chamber and an inner chamber surrounded by refractory lining, in which there is an input zone, a preheating and degassing zone, a reaction zone, a discharge zone and the annular furnace hearth and the heating elements are located.

FIG. 9 shows the capacitor shown in FIG. 8, rotated and enlarged by 90 ", and
Fig.
10 shows a part of the capacitor shown in FIG. 8 on an enlarged scale.
The device essentially consists of a rotary hearth furnace, which can be seen from FIGS. 1 to 7, and a condenser, which can be seen from FIGS. 9 and 10.
8 shows both part of the rotary hearth furnace and part of the condenser.
The rotary hearth furnace has an annular, stationary abge
provided housing 13 with an outer jacket 64 and an inner jacket 65. This housing 13 is composed of individual sectors to form a ring, these sectors being connected to one another by means of flanges 66. Within the housing 13, which has a circular surface, there is an annular furnace hearth 1. This is concentric with the housing 13 and can be rotated about the axis 67. The oven 1 has a turntable la, which comprises a support plate 4 and a lining made of refractory material 4a and 4b. The turntable 1 a is also provided with running wheels 7 which can be moved on rails 8. Support rollers 9 are used for lateral guidance of the rotary table 1 a. The rotary table 1 a is also provided with a ring gear 10.
A gas-tight bearing 11 located in the housing 13 and an electric motor 12, the shaft of which drives the sprocket 10 via a pinion, serve to rotate the turntable.
Above the rotary table 1 a there is a U-shaped wall 2 and 3 made of refractory material.
This wall also forms a ring and is concentric with the fixed housing 13 and the rotary table la.
A radially inner circular skirt 5a is attached to the wall 2, 3. A radially outer, circular skirt 5 is also attached to the wall 2, 3. The wall 2, 3 with its aprons 5, 5a is stationary. An inner chamber 43, in which the reaction material 35 is located, lies between the ring-shaped rotating oven hearth 1 and the fixed wall 2, 3. Outside the oven range 1, but within the housing 13, there is an outer chamber 44. The direction of rotation of the turntable 1 a is indicated by an arrow lb.
1 and 3, an input nozzle 18 can be seen, to which an input funnel 17 is connected at the top.
The latter is provided with a suction line 29 and with a pressure lock 16. 2 and 4 a preheating and degassing zone 36 can be seen. The reaction material 35 is thus heated so that e.g. CO2, H20, N2 and 02 are carried away via the suction line 37. A suction line 42 connects to the latter and opens into the outer chamber 44. A partition 41 of the inner chamber, which can also be seen in FIG. 8, lies between the inlet connection 18 and the preheating and degassing zone 36. This partition 41 is formed by a web on the wall 2, 3, which extends over the width of the annular turntable la and extends close to the turntable 1 a, so that the inner chamber 43 is divided into the various zones mentioned.
The bulkhead 41 thus separates the input zone 18a located at the inlet nozzle 18 from the preheating and degassing zone 36. In the latter there are rod-shaped heating elements 33. When the turntable 1 a is turned further, the reaction material 35 passes through a second partition 39 into a reaction zone 38. The heating elements 33 are also located in this again. In the reaction zone 38 the metal to be extracted evaporates and becomes aspirated via a line 34. The remaining solids then pass under a partition 40 to the discharge zone 19a. The latter can be seen in FIG. 7. In the discharge zone 19a there is a discharge screw 19 which is rotatably mounted in gas-tight bearings 22 and 23. This discharge screw 19 is cooled, a cooling medium being passed through a line 20.
An electric motor 21 is provided for driving the discharge screws 19. A discharge nozzle 24 connects to the discharge zone 19a.
This is in turn provided with a suction line 30 and a pressure lock 25. The preheating and degassing zone of the rotary hearth furnace lies between the two partitions 41 and 39. The reaction zone 38 lies between the two partitions 39 and 40.
From Fig. 8 it can be seen that a pressure lock is present at the inlet port 18, which is formed by the two lock gates 14 and 16. For this purpose, a further connection 15 is connected upstream of the input connection 18, which is also provided with a suction line 28. A pressure lock, which is formed from the two lock gates 25 and 27, is also provided at the discharge nozzle 24.
For this purpose, a further nozzle 26 is connected downstream of the dispensing nozzle, which is also provided with a suction line 31. This measure and also the suction line 42 can ensure that the rotary hearth furnace is kept under a negative pressure.
The suction line 34 leads to the condenser 45. The latter has an auxiliary condenser 62, in which a suction line 53 is located. The condenser has a vacuum vessel 63 in which a vacuum chamber 51 is located. In this there is a cooling coil 49. The vessel 63 is provided at the top with a lining 50 in which gas-tight bearings are located. A shaft is rotatably supported in each of these bearings 48 and is driven by a motor 52. Cams 48a are located at the free end of the shafts mentioned.
These act on axially movable valve rods 47, each of which carries a closing body 46 at the lower end. The latter can be sealingly applied to a valve seat 46a. On the left side of FIG. 9, the valve rod 47 has been pressed down by the cam 48a, so that the outlet valve 46, 46a is closed for the condensate. On the other hand, this valve is open on the right side of FIG. 9. There is a mold 54 under the closed valve, and a mold 55 is under the open valve. It can be seen from FIG. 10 that there are several molds 54 in a row. There is also such a row with the molds 55. 9 that the suction line 53 extends deep into a condensation chamber 51a. The above-mentioned negative pressure in the condenser 45 is maintained by means of this suction line 53.
At right angles to the two rows of molds 54, 55 there are two lock gates 56, 58, between which there is a pressure lock 57. A suction line 61 opens into this in order to repeatedly produce the negative pressure mentioned in the pressure lock 57. An unloading station 59 connects to the pressure lock 57. The aforementioned valves 46, 46a are alternately opened and closed, so that the condensed metal either flows into the mold 54 or 55. When the condensate flows out into one of these molds, the aforementioned negative pressure in the environment is likewise maintained by means of a suction line 60.
Instead of the negative pressure mentioned in the rotary hearth furnace and in the condenser 45, an atmosphere of an inert gas can also be maintained in the device.
A continuous extraction of the metal is achieved from the feed of the reaction material via the inlet connection 18 into the rotary hearth furnace until the metal is discharged as condensate into a mold 54 or 55. The remaining solids are also continuously conveyed out of the device. The reaction material located on the rotary table 1 a is smoothed out by the web-like partitions 39, 40 and 41 shown in FIG. 8, i.e. the distance between each partition and the turntable gives the thickness of the layer of reaction material. This spreading of the reaction material achieves an effective and very effective effect of the heat on the reaction material.
From Fig. 3 to 7 it can also be seen that when spreading the reaction material this comes to lie laterally between the rotation rule 1 a and the aprons 5 and 5a, so that this reaction material as a sealing compound between the stationary parts and rotatable parts of the oven range 1 serves.
