Certain essential oils, by virtue of their capacity for percutaneous penetration, are used in preparations for external application having a local and/or internal therapeutic action, for example: fat-solvent action, activation of blood circulation, enhanced elimination of metabolites, and the like. The increase in the efficacy of the preparations is proportional to their concentration of essential oils. A cosmetic slimming preparation that combats cellulite cannot be made more effective by a high concentration of essential oils; its smell becomes too strong, and it often becomes too irritant, to be readily marketable.
