In dentistry, anchors are often used to hold dentures on the remaining roots. These anchors are in principle made up of a male part, generally welded to a root cap, and a female part, in the form of a housing, retained in the prosthesis either by polymerization or by welding to a metal frame.
The retention of the male part in the female part or the housing can be achieved by friction or by pressure. In the latter case, the retention element most often consists of a metal ring spring which is itself retained in a groove inside the housing. The male part has a constriction which, when introduced into the housing, serves as a housing for the ring spring.
These anchors are small. To put the spring in place in the groove inside the housing, it must be deformed so that it can pass through the orifice intended for the passage of the male part, which is necessarily of a diameter smaller than it. This deformation alters the retention force of the spring which is then difficult, if not impossible, to adjust again. The replacement of a spring broken by fatigue encounters the same drawbacks. We tried to overcome these obstacles by manufacturing housings formed of two parts assembled by screwing after the introduction of the spring. However, such housings are expensive and must be large enough because of the threads with which they must be provided.
The present invention aims to provide an anchoring device whose retaining spring does not undergo any other deformation than that inherent in its function, and whose dimensions remain reduced to the maximum.
In the anchoring device for dental prostheses according to the invention, the female part (or case) consists of a middle part in which a cover is adjusted and fixed, the edge of which serves as a stop for the ring spring.
Preferably, the entire housing is made of metal or plastic. However, the middle part of the case can be made of metal and the cover of the case made of plastic, or vice versa.
The accompanying drawings show, by way of example, a possible embodiment of the invention.
Fig. I is a profile view of the male part.
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the female part or housing.
Fig. 3 is a side view of the female part or housing.
The male part 1 can be compared to a press button. It has, on its outside diameter, a constriction 2 which, when it is introduced into the housing 3, serves as a housing for the ring spring 4.
The female part (or case) 3 consists of a middle part 5 which comprises, on the one hand, an opening 6 intended for the passage of the male part 1 and in which, on the other hand, the cover 7 is intended to be adjusted and fixed. The middle part 5 further comprises, in its internal diameter, a groove 8 intended to receive the ring spring 4, with a diameter greater than that of the latter.
The various constituent elements of the anchor for dental prostheses according to the invention are put in place as follows: the ring spring 4 is introduced into the middle part 5 through the opening in which the cover 7 is intended to be adjusted and fixed. As the diameter of this opening is at least equal to that of the ring spring 4, it undergoes no deformation during this operation. It comes to take place in the groove 8 and bears against the edge 10 of the latter.
Then, the cover 7 is adjusted and fixed, either by notching or by gluing, thermal clamping, crimping, microsoldering, or in any other way, in the middle part. The edge 9 of the cover 7 serves as a stop for the ring spring 4 and prevents it from leaving the groove 8. Finally, it suffices to introduce the male element 1 into the housing 3 in which it will then remain fixed with a simple pressure by means of the ring spring 4.
The anchor for dental prostheses according to the invention is easy to manufacture, of reduced dimensions and has the advantage of being inexpensive. It allows precise and constant adjustment of the retaining force of the ring spring. In the plastic version, the ring spring is provided, which increases its service life. Finally, the housing can be easily changed in the event of a break in the ring spring, for example. In this case, we can even readjust the prosthesis.
