To maintain stirrability and to replace the distilled acetic acid, a further 1000 ml of fresh acetic acid in 100 ml portions are added over the course of the entire reaction period of 72 h. The progress of the reaction can be easily monitored in the microscope and the insoluble product is finally in the form of fine needles.
It is filtered hot, stirred 4 times with 2000 ml of isopropanol at 70 ° C. and filtered and then dried at 1000 ° C./13 3 Pa. 553 g of colorless, fine needle-shaped product are obtained.
Elemental analysis: C 29.50% H 4.49% Al 16.50% (B) 1020 g (10 mol) of acetic anhydride are placed in a 1.5 l sulfonation flask equipped with a stirrer, thermometer and reflux condenser and stirred 39 g (0.5 mol) of aluminum hydroxide, hydrargillite (Merck, finely powdered) were added.
The reaction mixture is brought to reflux within 2 h. After a reaction time of 72 h under the conditions mentioned, the product is completely in the form of microscopic needles. After cooling, it is filtered. The filter residue is washed 4 times with 100 ml isopropanol at 700 C and filtered and then dried at 13.3 Pa at 100 C. 70 g of a colorless, finely needle-shaped product are obtained.
Elemental analysis: C 29.11% H 4.42% Al 17.0% (C) In a 1.5 l flask, equipped with a stirrer, thermometer and still with a descending condenser, 445 g (= 6.0 mol ) Propionic acid, pure (Fluka), with stirring 39 g (= 0.5 mol) aluminum hydroxide, hydrargillite (Merck, finely powdered) and heated. At a bath temperature of 160 "C and an internal temperature of about 136" C, the propionic acid begins to distill off slowly. In order to maintain stirrability, the distilled propionic acid (900 ml) is continuously replaced with a total of 1500 ml of fresh propionic acid during the entire reaction period of 96 h. As the reaction time progresses, the increasing appearance of the rod-shaped product can be tracked in the microscope.
For working up, the hot reaction mixture is filtered off with suction and the filter residue is stirred 4 times with 1000 ml of isopropanol at about 700 ° C. and filtered off. The product is then dried in a vacuum drying cabinet at 100 C / 13.3 Pa. The result is 78 g of a colorless, rod-shaped product.
Elemental analysis: C 37.53% H 5.97% Al 14.30% (D) Analogously to Example 1, 976 g (8 mol) of benzoic acid, dissolved in 3500 ml of o-dichlorobenzene, are in a 6 l sulfonation flask. submitted and in this solution 156 g (2 mol) of aluminum hydroxide.
Hydrargillite (Merck, finely powdered) suspended. Now the mixture is heated. until the distillation of water-containing dichlorobenzene begins at 750 ° C internal temperature (distillation temperature 1600 ° C). The initially thin-bodied dispersion becomes increasingly viscous and must be diluted twice with 500 ml of fresh o-dichlorobenzene over the course of the total reaction time of 96 h. A total of 800 ml of two-phase water-containing distillate are obtained. The still hot reaction mixture is now filtered and the residue is stirred 4 times with 61 isopropanol and filtered. The product purified in this way is dried at 100 ° C./2 kPa. 497 g of a colorless, fine, needle-shaped product are obtained.
Elemental analysis: C 55.06% H 3.90% Al 10.85% (E) In a 1.5 l sulfonation flask equipped with a stirrer, thermometer and distillation attachment with a descending condenser, 224 g of 2.0 moles) of benzoic acid , 25.5 g (= 0.25 mol) of aluminum oxide and 500 ml of o-dichlorobenzene heated with stirring. At a bath temperature of 190.degree. C. and an internal temperature of about 178.degree. C., the whole is allowed to react for 94 hours, a total distillate of about 100 ml being obtained in the course of the reaction. The hot suspension is then filtered and the filter residue 4 times heated to 70 ° C. with 500 ml of isopropanol and filtered off.
The product purified in this way is dried at 100 C / 2 kPa. 35 g of a fine, needle-shaped product are obtained.
Elemental analysis: C 20.65% H 1.50% Al 39.85%
example 1
An acidic polyester is produced from a mixture of 21 moles of adipic acid and 20 moles of neopentyl glycol using the melting process. The polyester has an acid equivalent weight of 1461.
9.4 g of aluminum acetate needles according to preparation example A are incorporated in 146 g (= 0.1 eq.) Of the polyester obtained in a three-roll mill and then heated to 130.degree. 11 g (= 0.1 eq.) Of triglycidyl isocyanurate (TGIC) are added to the mixture with stirring. The TGIC is dissolved after about 5 minutes. The mixture is cooled somewhat and mixed with 0.3 g of an accelerator of the following structure:
EMI3.1
The mixture is poured into 2 mm thick molds (2 x 150 x 150 mm) and cured for 14 h at 140 ° C. The test specimens punched out in accordance with 1SO527 have the following properties: Tensile strength: 7.8 (2.6) N / mm2 Elongation at break: 529 (339)%
The values given in brackets are measured on the analog molded bodies without reinforcing agents.
Both in terms of strength and elongation, a surprisingly strong increase results from the addition of only 6% needles.
Example 2
The procedure is as in Example 1, but instead of aluminum acetate needles, those based on benzoic acid in Preparation Example D are incorporated into the polyester.
The test specimens obtained after curing have the following properties: tensile strength: 11.7 N / mm2 elongation at break: 548%
Example 3
An acidic polyester is produced from 8 moles of adipic acid and 7 moles of neopentyl glycol using the melting process. 68.7 g (= 0.1 eq.) Of the polyester obtained are rubbed with 5 g of Al-acetate needles in accordance with preparation example A on the three-roll mill and, as in example 1, with 0.1 eq.
Triglycidyl isocyanurate hardened. The molded articles made from it have the following properties: Tensile strength: 4.3 (1.5) N / mm2 Elongation at break: 255 (148)% Tear resistance: 4.8 (2.6) N / mm (Again, the values for analog test specimen without addition of the reinforcing agent).
This example shows the enormous improvement in the strength and tear resistance of the notched tensile body through the addition of 6% needles, without reducing the extensibility.
