REVENDICATIONS
Dans les dessins, on peut observer l'entonnoir 1, se terminant par une tôle rigide 2, formant un contre-poinçon d'impression sur lequel glissera un document introduit tel qu'indiqué en 3. Ce dispositif, avec les autres éléments propres du dispositif d'introduction ciaprès décrits, peut être partie intégrante et permanente d'un appareil terminal exclusivement prévu pour le traitement de cette sorte de documents mentionnés (récépissés sous forme de feuilles simples ou livret), ou il peut conformer un système d'introduction amovible, adaptable de la manière habituelle à un appareil d'impression alphanumérique de bande de papier continu perforé;

CLAIMS
1. A device for frontally feeding documents into a character printing apparatus, comprising a funnel-guide for leading the document to the printing area, photoelectric devices for detecting the passage of the lower edge of said document, and drive rollers controlled by a motor controlled by the programmer of the apparatus for defining the printing interlinearings according to the detected position of said edge, characterized in that the document drive mechanism is formed by two independent rollers, linked to pressure rollers and placed in the areas of the respective sides of the document, connected to corresponding incremental motors which are independently excited from a programming system, and two sensors for the lower edge of the document,
linked to said programmer so that the first one which detects the lower edge of the document inhibits the operation of the motor on the respective side until the mentioned edge is also detected by the other sensor.
2. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that each of the pressure devices linked to the drive rollers comprises two independent rollers, urged by elastic devices so that they are applied against the printing surface in points uniformly separated in the direction of the document movement.
3. Device according to claims I and 2, characterized in that the two rollers of each pressure device are idle on the respective shafts parallel to the shafts of the drive rollers and fixed to a support articulated at an intermediate point to a movable member under the effect of elastic devices.
Front entry of documents is used, for example, in alphanumeric printing terminals of data processing systems. The insertion of the known introducer device makes it possible to use the device for the reception of detached documents, such as receipts, receipts or deposit books. In general, the apparatus consists of a guide line for leading the document to the printing area, photoelectric devices, for detecting the presence of the document in the conduit and the passage of the lower edge of said document, and two or more two drive rollers, controlled by an incremental or stepping motor which is controlled by the program system of the apparatus to define the previously established printing interlinings, as a function of the detected position of said bottom edge.
A common problem with these feeders is that the drive rollers are operated by the programmer just a moment before the bottom edge of the document arrives, so that there is a risk that the document will be caught. by the rollers in a position which is not entirely horizontal, ie parallel to the path of the printer, with consequently a printing defect.
The object of the present invention is to resolve this known problem, improving the front document insertion devices to make them capable of automatically leveling these documents from the more or less inclined position in which they have been introduced into the device. .
To this end, in accordance with the present invention, the document entry device comprises the features mentioned in claim 1.
In accordance with this arrangement, when a document is inserted into the device in an inclined position, the drive roller which first took the document stops, the document rotating the other roller around the first until the document is perfectly horizontal and the second sensor detects it.
In accordance with an embodiment of the invention, each
pressure devices attached to the drive rollers is composed of two independent rollers, urged by elastic devices so that they are applied against the printing surface on separate points in the direction of movement of the document; thus, one of the rollers of each device can freely cross an obstacle presented by the document, for example the line
or the rung of the central fold of a booklet, while the other holds it firmly. Preferably, the two rollers of each pressure device are idle on shafts parallel to the shafts of the drive rollers and fixed to a support articulated by an intermediate point to a member movable under the effect of the elastic devices.
The attached drawings show, by way of example and in diagrammatic representations, a preferred form of the device according to the invention.
In the drawings:
fig. 1 is a general diagram in perspective representing the essential elements of an introduction device according to the invention, and
fig. 2 is a diagram on a very enlarged scale and a section in elevation by the plane of one of the drive devices, showing the relationships between the rollers.
In the drawings, we can observe the funnel 1, ending with a rigid sheet 2, forming a printing counter-punch on which a document inserted as described in 3 will slide. This device, with the other specific elements of the introduction device described below, can be an integral and permanent part of a terminal device exclusively intended for the processing of this kind of documents mentioned (receipts in the form of simple sheets or booklet), or it can conform to a removable introduction system , adaptable in the usual way to an alphanumeric printing machine for a perforated continuous paper strip;
the essential elements of the device are practically the same in both cases, assuming that the printing area will be located along line 4, which materializes the trajectory of the working end of the printer of the device, for example of the type of percussion needles and inked strip.
The document 3, from its introduction into the funnel 1, will be moved by drive means controlled by the device's own programmer, in order to make the prints in the precise points of the document, these means being put running by a signal supplied to said programmer by means of a photoelectric sensor device 5, placed substantially above said drive means and which detects the passage of the lower edge of the document.
The drive means are constituted according to the invention by two drive rollers 6 and 7 located behind the counter-punch plate 2, flush with the front surface thereof by corresponding windows 8, so that the rollers some respective pressure devices 9 can be supported there, shown far from their real position in the apparatus, position described by lines 10, for greater clarity of the drawing. Therefore, when the lower edge of the document 3 reaches the barrier formed between the drive rollers 6 and 7 and the pressure rollers 11, it is pinched and the document is driven in precise movements, ordered by the programmer of the 'apparatus.
As can be observed, the two drive rollers are united in rotation with the corresponding shafts 12 and 13 and the respective motors 14 and 15, entirely mechanically independent and advantageously of the incremental type or of step-by-step operation, capable of turning. in either of their two directions.
Each of the pressure devices 9 is formed by an arm 16 suspended from a shaft 17, fixed to the structure of the apparatus parallel to the line 4 of displacement of the printer, this arm 16 being articulated freely on the shaft 17 , so that it can be stressed by the tension spring 18, articulated with the small radial lever 19 to approach its free end to the corresponding drive roller. The free end of the arm 16 comprises a shaft 20 mounted free
rotating, parallel to the trajectory 4 and forming a support where two other shafts 21 and 22 are mounted parallel in turn to the line 4, located in adjacent axial positions along the length of the support 20 and whose geometric shafts Z and Y are placed on opposite sides of the geometric axis X of the support (fig. 2). The independent rollers 11 are mounted free on the shafts 21 and 22 and, in accordance with the construction described, they are diametrically separated and pressed against the drive roller 6 or 7 by the effect of the spring 18 in two points A and B which , as seen in fig. 2, are separated in the direction of movement indicated by an arrow.
As shown in fig. 1, the two described drive devices are placed towards the sides of the funnel 1 in order to retain the document 3 in transversely separate points, a photoelectric sensor 23 and 24 also arranged to detect the passage of the lower edge of the document 3, located below each device.
The photoelectric sensor 5 is linked with the programmer 25 in a usual way, that is to say that, when it detects the passage of the lower edge of the document 3, it provides a signal produced by said programmer to put the drive device to move the document inserted down.
However, both the motors 14 and 15 and the two sensors 23 and 24 are linked to the programmer so as to obtain the special operation according to the invention, according to which, when one of the sensors detects the presence of the edge, it stops the motor on the corresponding side, allowing the motor on the opposite side to continue to straighten the document 3 until its lower edge is also detected by the second sensor, moment from which the two motors are excited synchronously, the document being moved between the various interlinations in a perfectly horizontal position for printing. Such an action can be easily obtained by means of simple logic gate circuits, easy to imagine by the technician and whose description is not necessary.
The operation of the introduction system can be clearly deduced from the preceding description. On the other hand, concerning fig. 2, it can be observed that, during the introduction into the apparatus of a booklet 3a forming the fold or the rung 26 by doubling a part of its sheets on one side, the first roller 11 which finds the rung it goes up or down, depending on the direction of movement, without the other roller losing contact with the booklet and, when the obstacle reaches the second roller, the booklet is already well retained by the first.
The embodiment which has just been described is susceptible of variations also included in the invention. For example, the two rollers 1 1 could be mounted in independent arms and stressed by respective elastic devices, or else the shaft could coincide with another shaft Y or Z to have a single eccentric collar 21, 22, provided that another spring is provided to urge the eccentric roller in the appropriate direction.
