PATENTANSPRÜCHE

PATENT CLAIMS
1. A separator unit for air humidification by means of steam, with a housing which has an inlet opening for feed steam and an outlet opening for the useful steam, a dirt trap being arranged within the housing in the inlet area of the feed steam, a control and shut-off device in the outlet area of the useful steam, and furthermore the housing in the inlet area designed as a separator chamber and bounded to the lower housing part by a baffle, and in this lower housing part a steam trap controlled by a float is arranged, characterized in that the float (8) is operatively connected to a switch (16) by means of a transmission element (10) stands,
which either triggers an alarm signal or is connected to said control element (4) and adjusts the same in its closed position when a certain float position is reached for the purpose of preventing flooding.
2. Separator unit according to claim 1, characterized in that the transmission member is a pivotably mounted lever (10), one end section (10a) of which is in the range of movement of the float (8) and the other end section (1 Ob) with the switch (16) connected is.
The invention relates to a separator unit for air humidification by means of steam, with a housing which has an inlet opening for feed steam and an outlet opening for the useful steam, a dirt trap inside the housing, in the inlet area of the feed steam, and a control and shut-off device in the outlet area of the useful steam are arranged and furthermore the housing is formed in the inlet area as a separator chamber and is delimited to the lower housing part by a baffle plate, and in this lower housing part a steam trap controlled by a float is arranged.
As is well known, the air in rooms to be air-conditioned can be humidified by boiling water in a container and using the steam produced to humidify the air. However, if live steam is already available, as is the case, for example, in hospitals and numerous industrial plants, this available steam is also used for air humidification. For the controlled introduction of the steam into the steam distribution system, a separator and valve unit is used, which allows the incoming steam to be dewatered, i. to dry and regulate the amount of steam according to the moisture requirement, as well as to drain off the condensate.
Such separator and valve units are described for example in CH-PS 573 090, DE-AS 2 041 726, DE-OS 2 608 013, DE AS 1 604 113 and DE-Gm 7 537 301. However, these known arrangements have the disadvantage that they are not or not sufficiently reliably protected against flooding, which under certain circumstances can have a devastating effect on the entire air distribution system. As soon as the feed steam supply line is supplied with hot water instead of steam due to a malfunction of the boiler or pipeline system, the condensate separator provided is no longer sufficient to discharge the inflowing water quantities and the hot water reaches the distribution network and thus possibly through the useful steam supply line the air-conditioned rooms.
It is therefore the object of the present invention to provide a separator unit for air humidification purposes of the type described, in which the risk of flooding is eliminated. According to the invention, this object is achieved in that the float is operatively connected to a switch by means of a transmission element, which in turn either triggers an alarm signal or is connected to the aforementioned asperor element and adjusts the float in its closed position when a certain float position is reached for the purpose of preventing flooding.
According to a preferred embodiment, it can be provided that the transmission element is a pivotably mounted lever, one end section of which lies in the range of movement of the float and the other end section of which is connected to the switch.
An exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing. The only figure is a simplified sectional view of such a separator unit.
A housing 1 is provided with an inlet nozzle 2 for the feed steam and an outlet nozzle 3 for the useful steam. The inlet nozzle 2 is connected to an existing steam source, while the outlet nozzle 3 leads to a steam distribution system which distributes the useful steam into the rooms to be air-conditioned.
In the transition area between the inlet nozzle 2 and the outlet nozzle 3, a control and shut-off device 4 is arranged, which cooperates with a seat 5 and can be actuated in a known manner by means of a spindle 6. The spindle can be driven in various ways and is of no importance in the present context. By means of the spindle 6, the control member can in any case be lifted from its seat 5 at will, as a result of which the amount of steam flowing from the inlet connection 2 to the outlet connection 3 can be regulated.
A condensate drain 7, which is combined with a float ball 8, is arranged in the vicinity of the housing base. When the condensate level rises, the float ball 8 rises and thus opens the drain opening, so that the condensate can flow out through the outlet connection 9.
The steam flowing through the inlet connection 2 and the dirt trap 18 into the separator chamber 11 of the housing 1 is dewatered or dried in a known manner by reducing the speed and changing the direction. A conical baffle plate 12 is fastened below the inflow region of the feed steam and is anchored to the inner wall of the housing via radial ribs. The condensate accumulating in the separator chamber 11 thus flows down through the ring opening of the baffle plate 12 and collects there on the housing base until the condensate drain 7 opens.
When the condensate level rises abnormally, which can be caused, for example, by unintentional inflow of hot water, the floating ball 8 successively assumes the positions indicated by dashed lines. In this area of movement of the float ball 8, a lever 10 is arranged, which is pivotably mounted within a support tube 13 by means of a flexible membrane 14 and the end 10a of which then lies against the circumference of the float ball 8 when a certain condensate level is reached. The opposite end 10b of the lever 10 is connected to a switch 16 via a linkage 15, so that the lever 10 switches the switch on or off depending on its position.
A dash-dotted line 17 indicates that the switch 16 is pneumatically or electrically coupled to the drive of the valve spindle 6.
As soon as the condensate level in the housing 1 rises above a predetermined level due to an unintentional inflow of hot water, the switch 16 is actuated via the lever 10 and thus closes the transition from the inlet nozzle 2 to the outlet nozzle 3 by pressing the control element 4 onto its seat 5. So the risk of flooding the
Steam distribution system excluded with certainty.
Instead of a pivotably mounted lever 10, the person skilled in the art could also use other known transmission elements within the scope of the inventive concept. It would be conceivable, for. B. a
Proximity switch, which responds to the approach of the float ball 8 rising with the condensate.
The switch 16 could also trigger an alarm signal instead of closing the control valve directly.
