Internal combustion engine with an exhaust duct (21) extending from an exhaust valve (15), characterized by an insert (24, 34) arranged in the exhaust duct (21) at a distance from its walls, which has an inlet opening (25) at one end. through which the valve rod (17) of the outlet valve (15) extends, and which has a recess (35) opposite the inlet opening (25), through which the valve rod (17) and a stationary guide sleeve (36) of the latter extend, wherein a tongue member (38) is arranged such that it prevents the exhaust gases from flowing through the recess (35), and wherein the insert (24, 34) and the tongue member (38) are fastened to the guide sleeve (36).
2. Internal combustion engine according to claim 1, characterized in that the recess (35) is elongated in the longitudinal direction of the insert (24, 34).
3. Internal combustion engine according to claim 1, characterized in that the tongue member (38) is arranged below the recess (35).
4. Internal combustion engine according to claim 1, characterized in that the insert (24, 34) and the tongue member (38) are held on the guide sleeve (36) by means of a slotted retaining ring (39).
The invention relates to an internal combustion engine according to the preamble of claim 1.
The exhaust ducts of internal combustion engines are occasionally fitted with inserts. The purpose of such inserts is that the exhaust gases do not cool down too much after passing through the exhaust valve and before entering an exhaust gas device with one or more reaction chambers. By maintaining a high exhaust gas temperature for a relatively long time, the amounts of unburned hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide released into the atmosphere can be reduced.
The object of the invention is to provide an internal combustion engine of the type mentioned at the outset in order to improve the effectiveness of the inserts mentioned. This object is achieved by the measures defined in the characterizing part of patent claim 1.
Particularly advantageous embodiments of the internal combustion engine are described in claims 2 to 4.
A preferred embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is described in more detail below with reference to the drawing, in which:
Figure 1 shows an internal combustion engine in section schematically and in detail. and
2 and 3 individual parts of the internal combustion engine of FIG. 1 in a diagrammatic representation.
1 has an engine block 11 and a water-cooled cylinder head 12, which together with a piston 13 form a combustion chamber 14. An outlet device has an outlet valve 15 with a valve rod 17 and a valve body 18. In the closed state, the valve body 18 bears against a stationary valve seat 20. An outlet channel 21 is arranged in the cylinder head 12 and extends from the valve seat 20 to the outlet opening 22.
A thin-walled insert 24, 34 made of heat-resistant material is arranged in the exhaust duct 21 at a distance from the walls thereof. The insert 24, 34 has at one end an inlet opening 25, into which the exhaust gas from the combustion chamber passes when the outlet valve 15 is open.
The insert 24, 34 has an outlet opening 26 at its other end. A carrier flange 27 is fastened to the insert 24, 34 in the vicinity of the outlet opening 26 and has a surface 29 which is designed and arranged such that it is in contact with a corresponding surface 28 of a further flange 30 which is at the inlet end of an exhaust pipe 31 is provided by an exhaust gas collection device 32. The flanges 27,30 are in some way, e.g. by means of clamps, connected to one another, as a result of which the exhaust gas collection device 32 is also held on the cylinder head 12. The flange 27 acts as a cover element which closes the downstream end of the annular space delimited by the insert 24, 34 on the one hand and the walls of the exhaust duct 21 on the other hand; this prevents exhaust gases from flowing back into this room.
When the internal combustion engine is operating, this space is thus filled with a heat-insulating layer composed of essentially static exhaust gases which come in from the upstream end of the insert 24, 34.
The result of this insulating layer is that less heat is emitted from the insert 24, 34 to the walls of the exhaust duct 21; it therefore reduces the heat loss in the exhaust gases.
The insert 24, 34 has a front section 34 in which a recess 35 is present (FIG. 2). The latter is elongated in the longitudinal direction of the insert 24, 34 and lies opposite the inlet opening 25. The valve rod 17 and part of a stationary guide sleeve 36 extend through this recess 35. The insert 24, 34 is fastened to the guide sleeve 36 by means of a disk 37, a tongue member 38 and a slotted retaining ring 39.
The tongue member 38 has a tongue 40 which is arranged below the recess 35 in order to prevent the exhaust gases from flowing through the recess 35.
