Abstract

The data input device comprises a capacitive sensor (1) formed by an insulating base (1a) equipped with an electrode (1b) whose dimension in the direction perpendicular to that of the movement of the finger is progressively variable and of an insulating protection plate (1c) forming the dielectric of a finger/electrode capacitor (C(x)). The device includes a relaxation oscillator (2) whose output frequency (F1) depends on the capacitance (C(x)) and on the frequency (Fo) of a time base (2'). A counter (3a-3e) is periodically reset to zero by the output signal from the time base; its contents, just before resetting to zero, are proportional to the size of the capacitor. The device further comprises a memory (4a-4e) for the contents of the counter, a decoder (7), a control display (8) and a user circuit (9). A validation output (Qe') of the counter makes it possible to input the data item selected if the latter is correct via a pushbutton (9'). <IMAGE>
