EMI1.10
[4-(2' -Chlor-4' -nitrophenoxy) -a -phenoxy propionsäuremethylester]

Spritzpulver (wettable powder), Pasten, Emulsionen; Emulsionskonzentrate Flüssige Aufarbeitungsformen:
0,25 Teile Epichlorhydrin,
Beispiel 2 Spritzpulver:
Zur Herstellung eines a) 70%igen und b) 10%igen Spritzpulvers werden folgende Bestandteile verwendet: a) 70 Teile eines der Wirkstoffe der Formel I,
5 Teile Natriumdibutylnaphtylsulfonat,
3 Teile Naphthalinsulfonsäuren-Phenolsulfonsäuren-
Formaldehyd-Kondensat 3:2:1,
10 Teile Kaolin,
Wirkstoffe der Formel I,
5 Teile Natriumaluminiumsilikat,
14 Teile Cetylpolyglykoläther mit 8 Mol Äthylenoxid,
1 Teil Oleylpolyglykoläther mit 5 Mol Äthylenoxid,
2 Teile Spindelöl,
10 Teile Polyäthylenglykol,
23 Teile Wasser.
Beispiel 4 Emulsionskonzentrat:
Zur Herstellung eines 25',0igen Emulsionskonzentrates werden
25 Teile 4-(2'-Nitro-4' -methoxycarbonyl-phenoxy)-a- phenoxy-propionsäuremethylester oder eines anderen der genannten Wirkstoffe der Formel I,
5 Teile einer Mischung von Nonylphenolpolyoxyäthylen oder Calciumdodecylbenzolsulfat,
35 Teile 3,3,5-Trimethyl-2-cyclohexen- 1 -on,
35 Teile Dimethylformamid miteinander vermischt.
1 = Pflanzen total abgestorben
8-2 = Zwischenstufen der Schädigung.
Kulturpflanzen
Hordeum (Gerste)
Triticum (Weizen)
Oryza (Reis)
Glycine (Soja)
Gossypium (Baumwolle)
Beta (Zuckerrübe)
Ungräser und unerwünschte Pflanzen
Avena fatua
Lolium perenne
Alopecurus myos.
Zea (Mais)
Rottboellia exaltata
Digitaria sang.
Setarin italica
Echinochloa crus galli

Suitable substituents for phenoxy, phenylthio and benzyloxy radicals R6 are one or more from the group halogen, alkyl and nitro.
Cations of the group -O-cation (for R6) are to be understood as mono- and polyvalent cations of inorganic or organic bases including quaternary ammonium bases, in particular the cations of alkali and alkaline earth metal hydroxides. Chlorine is preferred among the halogen atoms for R1 and R3.
German patent application 2 223 894 discloses herbicidal compositions containing 4 phenoxy-phenoxy-alkanecarboxylic acid derivatives with a similar structure and having a special grass action for the selective control of grass weeds in monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous crops.
It has now surprisingly been found that the agents of the present invention with the new active compounds of the formula I, owing to the presence of the nitrogen-containing substituent R2, are clearly superior to the above agents with the active compounds of DOS 2 223 894 in their grass action, owing to better herbicidal action and / or better Selectivity, e.g. B. in soybeans and cotton.
Thus, the agents according to the invention are suitable for pre- and in particular post-emergent selective control of grasses (e.g. millet) of the genera Digitaria, Setarin Echinochloa, Rottboellia but also Alopecurus, Apera, Lolium etc., in particular also avena fatua (wild oat) not only in dicotyledon crops (such as cotton, soybeans, sugar beet, etc.) but especially also in monocotyledon crops, such as cereals (wheat, barley, rye, oats), rice, etc. In this regard and in particular to solve the wild oat problem in wheat the new active ingredients and the herbicidal compositions according to the invention containing them represent a notable enrichment of technology.
Agents with active substances of the formula 1 in which R2 represents the nitro group and in which the substituent R1 is halogen, in particular chlorine, are particularly preferred. It has been shown that an ortho-standing nitro group and a para-standing second substituent, such as chlorine, confer particularly good herbicidal activity and selectivity.
Among the active components of the formula I, preference is furthermore given to those in which R3 is hydrogen, ie which are unsubstituted in the second phenoxy radical.
Another focus is on agents with active ingredients in which at least one of the radicals R4 or R5 is different from hydrogen. B. lower alkyl, such as. B. methyl. The simplest ester form (R6 = OCH3) is already extremely effective.
The preparation of the new active substances of the agent takes place according to the methods known per se for the synthesis of phenoxy-phenoxy-alkane carboxylic acids and their derivatives.
According to a first of these processes, a substituted halogenobenzene of the formula II is used
EMI2.1
with a p-hydroxy-phenoxy-alkanoic acid derivative of the formula
EMI2.2
in the presence of a base.
A second process is based on a substituted p-hydroxy-diphenyl ether of the formula IV
EMI2.3
and sets this with an a halocarboxylic acid derivative of the formula V
EMI2.4
in the presence of a base.
If one uses a carboxylic acid as starting materials of the formulas III or V in these processes (R6 = OH), one can subsequently add z. B. by esterification, etc. convert this group into another derivative of formula I by definition. Conversely, when using an ester of the formulas III or V, the ester group can finally be converted into the free carboxylic acid by saponification.
In the formulas II to V of the starting materials, the radicals R1 to R6 have the meanings given under formula I and Hal represents a halogen atom, such as chlorine, bromine, etc.
The reactions mentioned can be carried out in the presence or absence of solvents or diluents which are inert to the reactants. Polar organic solvents such as methyl ethyl ketone, dimethylformamide, dimethyl sulfoxide etc. are preferred. The reaction temperatures are between 0 and 1500 and the reaction time is between 1 hour and several days, depending on the reaction temperature and solvent chosen.
You usually work at normal pressure. As bases (condensing agents) for the implementation come the usual, such as. B. KOH, NaOCH3, K2CO3, potassium tert-butoxide, etc., but also organic bases into consideration.
The production of an arbitrarily selected active ingredient of the formula I is explained below. Further active substances produced in a corresponding manner are listed in the table below.
[4- (2'-Chloro-4 '-nitrophenoxy) -a -phenoxy propionic acid methyl ester]
6.5 g of powdered potassium hydroxide and 20 g of methyl 4-hydroxy-a-phenoxypropionate in 150 ml of dry dimethyl sulfoxide at 0 ° C. are placed in a three-necked flask. 19.5 g of 3,4-dichloro-nitrobenzene are added in portions with stirring and at a temperature between 0 ° C. and 5 ° C. and stirring is continued for 12 hours at room temperature.
The reaction mixture is then poured into ice water, extracted with ethyl acetate, the extract is dried over sodium sulfate and the solvent is distilled off. An oily product is obtained, which is then subjected to high vacuum distillation. The substance obtained (27 g), namely 4 (2 '-chloro-4' -nitrophenoxy) -a -phenoxy-propionic acid methyl ester boils at 194 / 0.01 torr (compound no. 1).

The new active ingredients
of the formula I are stable compounds which are soluble in conventional organic solvents, such as alcohols, ethers, ketones, dimethylformamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, etc.
Agents according to the invention are prepared in a manner known per se by intimately mixing and grinding active ingredients of the general formula I with suitable carriers and / or distributing agents, if appropriate with the addition of antifoam, wetting agents, dispersants and / or solvents which are inert to the active ingredients.
The active ingredients can be present and used in the following processing forms: Solid processing forms:
Dusts, scattering agents, granules, coating granules, impregnating granules and homogeneous granules; Active ingredient concentrates dispersible in water:
Wettable powder, pastes, emulsions; Emulsion concentrates Liquid processing forms:
solutions
The active substance concentrations in the agents according to the invention are I to 80 percent by weight and, if appropriate, can also be present in small concentrations, such as 0.05 to 1 nno, when used.
Other biocidal active ingredients can be added to the agents according to the invention described. So the new agents in addition to the compounds of general formula 1 z. B. insecticides, fungicides, bactericides, fungistatics, bacteriostatics, nematocides or other herbicides to broaden the spectrum of activity.
Example 1 Granules:
The following substances are used to produce 5% granules:
5 parts of one of the active ingredients of the formula I,
0.25 parts epichlorohydrin,
0.25 parts of cetyl polyglycol ether,
3.50 parts of polyethylene glycol,
91 parts of kaolin (grain size: 0.3-0.8 mm).
The active substance is mixed with epichlorohydrin and dissolved in 6 parts of acetone, then polyethylene glycol and cetyl polyglycol ether are added. The solution thus obtained is sprayed onto kaolin and then evaporated in vacuo.
Example 2
The following constituents are used to produce a) 70% and b) 10% wettable powder: a) 70 parts of one of the active compounds of the formula I,
5 parts of sodium dibutyl naphtyl sulfonate,
3 parts of naphthalenesulfonic acids-phenolsulfonic acids-
Formaldehyde condensate 3: 2: 1,
10 parts of kaolin,
12 parts of champagne chalk; b) 10 parts of methyl 4- (2'-nitro-4'-chlorophenoxy) -a-phenoxy-propionate,
3 parts mixture of the sodium salts of saturated fatty alcohol sulfates,
5 parts of naphthalenesulfonic acid-formaldehyde condensate,
82 parts of kaolin.
The specified active ingredient is drawn onto the corresponding carrier substances (kaolin and chalk) and then mixed and ground. Spray powder of excellent wettability and suspension is obtained. From such wettable powders, suspensions of 0.1-8% active ingredient can be obtained by dilution with water, which are suitable for weed control in plant crops.
Example 3 Paste:
The following substances are used to produce a 45% paste:
45 parts of 4- (2'-chloro-4 '-nitro-phenoxy) -a-phenoxy-propionic acid methyl ester or another of the above
Active ingredients of formula I,
5 parts of sodium aluminum silicate,
14 parts of cetyl polyglycol ether with 8 moles of ethylene oxide,
1 part of oleyl polyglycol ether with 5 moles of ethylene oxide,
2 parts spindle oil,
10 parts of polyethylene glycol,
23 parts of water.
The active ingredient is intimately mixed and ground with the additives in suitable devices. A paste is obtained, from which suspensions of any desired concentration can be prepared by dilution with water.
Example 4 Emulsion concentrate:
To prepare a 25 ', 0igen emulsion concentrate
25 parts of 4- (2'-nitro-4'-methoxycarbonyl-phenoxy) -a-phenoxy-propionic acid methyl ester or another of the active compounds of the formula I mentioned,
5 parts of a mixture of nonylphenol polyoxyethylene or calcium dodecylbenzenesulfate,
35 parts of 3,3,5-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen- 1 -one,
35 parts of dimethylformamide mixed together. This concentrate can be mixed with water
Emulsions to suitable concentrations of e.g. B. 0.1 to
Be diluted 10%. Such emulsions are suitable for controlling weeds in crops.
The new 4-phenoxy-phenoxyalkanecarboxylic acids and their derivatives of the formula I, which contain a nitrogen-containing group (nitro or optionally substituted amino) in a phenyl nucleus, and the compositions comprising them, have an excellent selective herbicidal action against weeds in a wide variety of crop plants.
Since the new active ingredients practically only kill grass-like weeds and only attack broad-leaved (dicotyle) plants, the agents are therefore suitable for weed control in all dicotyledonous crops, such as cotton, soybeans, sugar beets, legumes, celery, clover, alfalfa, melon, Cucumber, tobacco, etc. They show a significantly better selectivity z. B. in soybeans, cotton and sugar beet, as is the case with the closely related active ingredients of DOS 2 223 894 without a nitrogenous substituent.
Control of maize in soybean crops should also be considered.
It is particularly surprising, however, that the agents containing the new active compounds of the formula I also have excellent selectivity in combating weeds, in particular millet-like weeds in monocot crops, such as cereals (wheat, barley, etc.) and rice.
So millets of the genera Setaria, Echinochloa, Digitaria, Rottboellia etc. can be selectively combated selectively in addition to soybeans in the monocot crops wheat and barley.
Against other grassy weeds, such as Alopecurus, Lolium, Apera, Agrostis, etc., the new agents are also excellent.
A particularly preferred area of application is selective
Control of the problem weed Avena fatua (wild oats) and its related species in wheat, barley and sugar beet.
Although the new active ingredients of formula I are effective in pre- and post-emergent use, the post-emergent application of the agents as contact herbicides seems to deserve preference, although the pre-emergent use is also of interest.
The agents according to the invention are preferably used as e.g. B.
25% wettable powder or z. B. 20 oige emulsifiable concentrates formulated and diluted with water applied to the plant stands post-emergent.
Herbicidal effect when applying the agents after emergence of the plants (post-emergent)
Various crops and grass-like weeds are grown from the seeds in pots in the greenhouse until they reach the 4- to 6-leaf state. Then the plants are sprayed with aqueous active ingredient emulsions (obtained from a 20% emulsifiable concentrate) in different doses corresponding to 8, 4, 2, 1 and 0.5 kg / ha. The treated plants are then kept under optimal conditions of light, watering, temperature (22-25 C) and humidity (50-70% relative).
15 days after treatment, the tests were evaluated according to the following 9 index:
9 = plants undamaged (like untreated control plants)
1 = plants totally dead
8-2 = intermediate stages of damage.
Crops
Hordeum (barley)
Triticum (wheat)
Oryza (rice)
Glycine (soy)
Gossypium (cotton)
Beta (sugar beet)
Grasses and unwanted plants
Avena fatua
Lolium perenne
Alopecurus myos.
Zea (corn)
Rottboellia exaltata
Digitaria sang.
Setarin italica
Echinochloa crus galli
The test showed that the agents tested according to the invention with active ingredients of the formula I with nitrogen-containing substituent R3 and with an equally good to better weed action have a noticeably better selectivity against wheat, soybeans, cotton, sugar beet and rice, since they damage these crop plants significantly less than the constitutional ones nearest unsubstituted or chlorinated compounds of DOS 2 223 894.
