The present invention relates to a stranding machine for alternating wiring and in particular for the ablation of sector conductors, comprising an accumulator rotated alternately in one direction and in the other around an axis and a supply device disposed in front of the accumulator so as to direct the individual conductors towards the wiring die.
Stranding machines of this kind are already known. Thus, for example, patent No. 616,018 describes an installation capable of forming multi-wire strands by working continuously. The possibility of inserting stranding machines for alternating ablation in continuous production lines gives considerable interest to this kind of machine and we have tried to apply it also to the manufacture of cables of relatively large diameter formed of a small number of conductors with a circle sector profile. However, a difficulty has arisen from the fact that the metal of the individual conductors undergoes a torsional force to which a corresponding deformation must correspond when entering the stranding machine.
However, it has been found that, to allow correct wiring of these sector conductors by alternating wiring, it was necessary to provide in the supply device located upstream of the rotating accumulator, special devices ensuring a predetermined guidance of the various individual conductors and allowing a modification of the guidance upon reversing the direction of rotation.
In order to achieve a stranding machine allowing the alternating wiring of sectoral conductors of large section, avoiding the drawbacks due to the resistance of the metal to deformation, the stranding machine according to the invention is characterized by orientable guide devices acting on each conductor before its passage through the die and by control means which tilt the guide devices by a determined angle at each reversal of the direction of rotation of the accumulator by giving a twist to the conductors.
Of course, the device will switch with each reversal in the direction which adapts the torsion to which the driver is subjected when he enters the accumulator. The tilting angle will be adjustable and can be adjusted from case to case. The value of this angle depends on the characteristics of the stranding machine and those of the conductor.
Various embodiments of the stranding machine according to the invention will be described below, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which: FIG. 1 is a general plan view of a first alternate ablation installation, FIG. 2 a sectional view on a large scale of the cable as it leaves the stranding machine, FIG. 3 is a schematic elevation view of a second installation, FIG. 4 is a slightly enlarged sectional view along the line IV - IV of FIG. 3, and fig. 5 is a schematic and partial elevation view of a third installation.
Fig. 1 shows, in plan view, an installation for ablage and sheathing working according to the principle of alternating ablage to form a cable from four sector conductors 1 as shown in FIG. 2. The four sectoral conductors 1 are unwound from coils 2 distributed as a fan in front of a wiring die 3 and rotating around axes perpendicular to the direction that each conductor follows from the coil to the die 3. A fixed guide member 4, placed in front of the die 3, is traversed by the four conductors 1 in openings of sufficient size for these conductors to pass through the guide member freely.
The stranding machine comprises behind the die 3 a rotary accumulator 5 which consists of a tube 6 carried by two bearings 7 and equipped at its two ends with tracks 8. A toothed wheel 9 secured to the tube 6, driven by a pinion 10 secured to the a motor 11 communicates to the movable assembly (6, 9, 8) a rotational movement whose direction changes periodically. At the outlet of the accumulator 5, the cable is taken up by a caterpillar 12 and guided towards the head 13 of an extruder 14 which immediately deposits on the cable an insulating layer or a plastic protective sheath. The tank 15 ensures the cooling of the cable, so that the S-Z shape of the twisting of the cable is fixed by the insulation.
An outlet track 16 acts as a retractor and conducts the cable between the two elongated rollers 17 towards the take-up reel 18.
As is known, to ensure the operation of an installation of this kind, it is necessary that the direction of rotation of the rotary accumulator 5 is periodically reversed, the duration of the period being equal to the time taken by any point of the cable to cover the entire length of the accumulator.
On the other hand, the reversal of the direction of rotation must be as rapid as possible.
To avoid the difficulties due to the elasticity of the metal and to its deformation resistance, the stranding machine described also comprises orientable guide devices which act on the conductors 1 before they enter the die 3. For this purpose, the coils 2 are each mounted on a bracket 19 and which is fitted with a shaft 20 directed perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the coil. This shaft 20 is carried by two bearings 22 mounted on a base 21. Its rear end carries a lever 23 whose end is articulated on the rod 24 of a jack 25. These control means which will be described in more detail below- after,
allow the yoke 19 of each of the coils 2 to be tilted by a predetermined angle so that it alternately occupies two different positions each corresponding to one of the directions of rotation of the accumulator. An electric signal control allows the levers 23 to be moved by means of the jacks 24 exactly when the motor 11 changes its direction of rotation. There is thus obtained a correct assembly of the sectoral conductors 1 which, crossing the die 3, are placed side by side, as shown in FIG. 2, the flat insulating layers of each conductor being in contact with one another.
Instead of operating from supply coils such as coils 2, the stranding machine described can also be inserted in a production line where the sector conductors constituting the cable are cut from fixed coils or another machine. This is shown in fig. 3 which represents another form of execution of the stranding machine described. The guide device here comprises a support 26 on which are mounted four roller trains 27. Two of these roller trains are shown in FIG. 3 where we see that their frame 29 is secured to a shaft 28 which is engaged in a bearing (not shown) of the support 26. As shown in FIG. 4, the frame 29 of each train of rollers comprises two longitudinal members carrying the rollers 30 and 31.
These rollers are profiled according to the shape of sectoral conductor that they must guide. Thus, the rollers 30 have a groove in a concave arc while the rollers 31 have a V-shaped groove with an angle of 90. An orientation arm 32, rigidly fixed to the frame 29 is articulated on the rod 33 of a jack 34, the cylinder of which will be fixed on a base.
The installation of fig. 3 further comprises a wiring die 35 and a rotating accumulator consisting of two tracks 36 and 37 whose frames 40 are carried by bearings 38 in which are engaged the hollow shafts 39 integral with the frames 40 Each frame further carries a motor d drive (not shown) of the tracks, so that these members exert a tensile force on the cable. In addition, the frames 40 are provided with pulleys 41 each driven from a motor 42, by means of belts 43. The motors 42 will be controlled so as to be constantly synchronized. Their direction of rotation will periodically alternate as was the case for motor 11.
In fig. 3, we also see a track 44 which ensures the reception of the cable and its engagement in the extrusion head following the stranding machine.
The various tracks of the instnllation of FIG. 3 will be formed so as to grip the cable with sufficient pressure to ensure that it rotates around the axis of the accumulator. For this purpose, it will be possible to use, for the tracks proper, relatively thick and flexible or profiled rubber bands.
However, it may be advantageous to equip the rotating accumulator with roller trains as shown in FIG. 5 ol the accumulator comprises a tube 45 mounted on bearings 46 as in the first embodiment, but equipped at its two ends with a train of rollers 47. In this case, the linear rotating accumulator will not exercise necessarily a draw function. Only the track placed at its exit could exercise this function. Furthermore, we find in FIG. 5, the wiring die 35 identical to that of FIG. 3 and the guiding devices 27 also containing roller trains and actuated by the jacks 34.
In these last two embodiments, the conductors 1 can come directly from production lines, for example from coating lines cooperating with the stranding machine without intermediate accumulation. This arrangement allows continuous work while the installation of FIG. 1 requires periodic interruptions in the wiring for changing the supply coils 2.
Instead of four sectoral conductors each having an angle of 90, one could obviously also provide for the manufacture of cables with two, three or five sectoral conductors or even comprising a greater number of conductors, the latter having, in each case, the cross section required to form a cable of practically circular cross-section.
