REVENDICATIONS

CLAIMS
1. A method of producing heat by exothermic reaction, characterized in that magnesium in solid form is used as fuel, that this magnesium is mechanically reduced into fragments, powder, filaments or chips, and that is introduced by a air flow these fragments in the hearth of a boiler.
2. Installation for implementing the method according to claim 1, characterized in that it comprises a hearth and a boiler, a device for supplying this hearth with magnesium particles by a stream of air and a disintegrator allowing magnesium particles to be obtained from solid blocks of this metal.
3. Installation according to claim 2, characterized in that the disintegrator comprises a rotary tool.
Heat production by aluminothermy is known. It is mainly used for welding rails and tubes, as well as for repairing mechanical parts by bringing the same metal. It is also used to obtain metals from their oxides such as chromium, vanadium, wolfram and others, rare and expensive metals. All these processes use exothermic reactions in order to decrease, in the metal obtained, the percentage of carbon.
The present invention aims to remedy these drawbacks.
The process for producing heat according to the invention by exothermic reaction is distinguished by the fact that magnesium in solid form is used as fuel, that this magnesium is mechanically reduced into fragments, powder, filaments or chips and that it is introduced by an air current these elements in the hearth of a boiler.
The present invention also relates to an installation for implementing the method described, which is distinguished by the fact that it comprises a hearth and a boiler, a device for supplying this hearth with magnesium particles by a current d air and a disintegrator for obtaining magnesium particles from solid blocks of this metal.
This installation provides continuous power.
While raluminothermie is a mixture of various metals, a single metal is used here producing a high calorific rate and not giving slag, being able to resume its combustion after an interruption.
Magnesium is preferably chosen because its oxidation is exothermic and releases about 145.5 cal and that this metal can resume combustion easily after an interruption and that the natural reserves of Mg are very large.
The fuel composition therefore comprises only one metallic element, namely magnesium, which can be added with non-metallic elements providing an excess of oxygen. In addition, there is no need to use pure metallic magnesium; it can be added with retarders such as sulfides, chlorides or salts producing excess oxygen. Magnesium is in the form of bricks of a standardized size, can be transformed into chips or powder by a rotary tool and entrained by a current of air towards the hearth where these particles ignite and produce heat.
The installation for producing thermal energy comprises a boiler provided with a hearth in which the particles of the metallic fuel are burned in the form of wires, fibers, chips, powder, etc. These fuel particles, generally pure Mg or with the addition of a combustion retarder, are obtained by machining, cutting, scraping or any other mechanical operation from solid blocks. These particles are then entrained by a current of air in the hearth where they are consumed while giving off heat.
