The present invention relates to a device for correcting the trajectory of the exhaust gases of a motor vehicle.
It has been observed in use that motor vehicles with a rear door, for example commercial cars or new cars fitted with this trunk system, allow exhaust gases to enter the passenger compartment and that it occurs black spots on the rear of the vehicle. Research has revealed that these fumes come from the turbulence that is created at the rear of the vehicle. While driving, the car displaces air and produces two air flows as illustrated by arrows A and B in fig. 1, an upper flow and a lower flow, which meet at a certain distance at the rear of the vehicle and create a vacuum zone. The outlet of the exhaust pipe is generally at the limit of this zone and the vacuum draws in a certain quantity of gas which accumulates in this volume.
When the vehicle is new, the seals surrounding the doors are in good condition and provide a good seal, but when the seals begin to wear they allow the exhaust gases accumulated at the rear of the vehicle to infiltrate into the passenger compartment. vehicle. The present invention proposes to overcome this drawback.
To this end, the device correcting the trajectory of the exhaust gases of a motor vehicle according to the present invention is characterized in that it comprises an exhaust tube whose outlet orifice is intended to be directed towards the bottom and an external deflector inclined with respect to the axis of the tube ensuring a entrainment of the gases outside the vortex zone existing at the rear of the vehicle.
The appended drawing represents, by way of nonlimiting example, several embodiments of the device according to the invention.

Fig. 2 is the same view as FIG. 1, but for a car equipped with a device according to the invention.
Fig. 3 is a schematic sectional view of a first embodiment of the device.
Fig. 4 is a top view of FIG. 3.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view of a second embodiment of the device with the exhaust pipe shown in phantom.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view along VI-VI of FIG. 5.
Fig. 7 is a schematic view of a third embodiment of the device in longitudinal section.
Fig. 8 is a side view of the device according to arrow VIII in FIG. 7.
Fig. 9 is a schematic view in longitudinal section of a fourth embodiment of the device.
The device shown in fig. 3 and 4 consists of a cylindrical tube 1, the rear end of which is bent downwards and which is intended to be fitted and fixed to the exhaust pipe 2 of a motor vehicle, as illustrated in fig. 2. An external deflector 3 is fixed under the tube by any suitable means, for example welding, so as to be inclined from rear to front, the inclination being approximately 45 "relative to the axis of the tube. The curved rear end 4 of the tube is cut obliquely from the rear towards the front so that the plane of the exhaust orifice is approximately parallel to the plane of the deflector 3. The front end 5 of the tube I is fitted with flanges by means of which the tube 2 can be fixed to the vehicle exhaust pipe.
In fig. 2 it can be seen that the lower flow of air which circulates at the rear of the vehicle is divided by the deflector 3 into two streams B and C which circulate above and below the exhaust pipe and which cut the effects caused by the vacuum in the rear of the vehicle and leads the gases far behind the car before they are caught in the upper flow. This deflector 3 therefore ensures a drive of the gases outside the vortex zone existing at the rear of the vehicle. The size of the deflector is of course chosen according to the amount of turbulence.
In the embodiment shown in fig. 5 and 6, the tube 10 has its rear end 1 1 bent downwards, the plane of the exhaust orifice forming an angle of approximately 30 with the axis of the tube. A deflector 12 formed by a perforated metal plate is welded to the front end of the tube so as to form an angle of 45 "with the axis of the tube.
Two fixing flanges 13 and 14 are cut in the wall of the tube 10 and make it possible to fix the latter on any diameter of the exhaust pipe. A boss 15 serves to prevent any deformation during tightening for mounting. The tube 10 is preferably formed by a curved plate whose two edges are fixed to each other by welding.
The fitting of the end piece on the exhaust pipe 2 of a vehicle is done by inserting said end piece on the pipe and folding the two flanges 13 and 14 on the pipe using pliers so that they enclose it, then fixing the two flanges to each other by means of a bolt and a nut.
As seen in Figs. 5 and 6, the difference between the diameter of the exhaust pipe 2 and the diameter of the nozzle 10 forms a channel 16 through which flows part of the air flow illustrated by arrow D. This air makes it possible to on the one hand to entrain the exhaust gases which circulate according to arrow E and on the other hand to cool the end of the exhaust tube and consequently the gases.
The device shown in figs. 7 and 8 differs in that the deflector 21 is formed by a curved plate in the form of a gutter and fixed below the tube 20, for example by flanges 22, so that its bottom is inclined from the rear towards the front relative to the axis of the tube 20. The front end 23 of the deflector 21 forms a curved edge downwards. The form
of this deflector creates an air flow which flows according to the arrows D and which carries the exhaust gases represented by the arrow E.
In the embodiment shown in fig. 9, the tube 30 is provided with a cutout 31 in its lower wall which delimits an outlet orifice. A wall 32 inclined from front to rear and occupying the entire section of the tube makes it possible to direct the exhaust gases, illustrated by arrow E, towards the outlet orifice formed by the cutout 31. The wall 32 can be formed, as illustrated, by an insert, or more simply by stamping the cut part of the tube. A deflector 33, inclined from the rear towards the front, is fixed by any appropriate means, for example welding, in front of the outlet orifice of the tube.
The device has just been described in the form of a nozzle which is fixed on the exhaust pipe of a motor vehicle. It is of course possible to provide an exhaust pipe with a curved end downwards and a deflector fixed directly on said exhaust pipe in a suitable location. The deflector could also be simply attached to the vehicle body.
The arrangement of the corrective device on the vehicle is naturally chosen in the manner best suited to the type of vehicle considered, so that it is outside any zone of turbulence which is created at the rear of the vehicles, in particular in the vicinity of the wheels.
The tube and the deflector can be constructed of preferably chrome-plated steel to avoid corrosion, in the case where the tube constitutes an end piece, it can simultaneously serve as a trim for the exhaust pipe.
This device therefore makes it possible to avoid all blackening of the vehicle on which it is mounted because it brings the gases out of the high turbulence zone which forms, as explained, at the rear of the vehicle.
