PATENTANSPRUCH II

Use of the process according to claim I for isolating and drying a solid from a suspension.
PATENT CLAIM III
The agglomerates obtained by the process according to claim I.
The invention relates to a further development of the method of the main patent for agglomerating a substance from a liquid system of at least two liquids which together form a liquid single-phase system at 20 "C, as well as, as an industrial product, the agglomerates produced by this method, as well as the Use of this method to isolate a solid from a suspension.
It has now been found that particularly good agglomeration results are achieved when the process of agglomeration of a substance from a liquid system with at least two liquids which are totally miscible at 20 ° C. is carried out in such a way that at least one salt is present during agglomeration already contained in the substance to be agglomerated, first added to the liquid system or also in such a form that the substance itself has a salt-like character, e.g. in the case of cationic dyes.
The method according to the invention for agglomerating a substance with stirring from a liquid system of at least two liquids which are completely miscible with one another at 20 ° C. with subsequent separation and drying is thus characterized in that at least one salt is present during agglomeration.
The implementation of the method consists, for example, in suspending a substance to be agglomerated in a liquid or a liquid mixture which does not dissolve this substance and adding a second liquid or a liquid mixture to this suspension, which wets or dissolves this substance and dissolves with the suspension liquid mixes completely, stir the mixture in a turbulent manner until agglomerates of this substance form, separate them from the liquid system and dry.
A preferred implementation of the method is a modification of this method by converting the substance to be agglomerated into a liquid system consisting of at least two liquids which mix completely with one another at 20 ° C., at least one of the liquids wetting or dissolving the substance to be agglomerated alone , adds continuously with stirring in such a way that agglomerates of this substance form, separate them from the system and dry.
The agglomerates formed are then separated from the liquid system in a manner known per se, for example by suction filtration or filtration, and dried by known methods.
The substance to be agglomerated can be a uniform substance or a mixture of substances, this substance belonging to a wide variety of substance classes and being of an inorganic or organic nature.
For example, it is dyes, pigments, optical brighteners or textile auxiliaries, pharmaceuticals
Products, mixtures of active ingredients in tablet production,

Both the detergent as such and the individual components can be granulated according to the invention.
Finally, polymers can also be granulated, which means macromolecular organic compounds that are obtained by converting natural products or by synthesis, including plastic materials.
All of these substances can be in pure form or, preferably, in commercially available form as a dried or moist, aqueous or organic press cake or as a suspension, whereby the liquid on which this press cake or suspension is based can be identical to the suspension liquid or granulating liquid. If the starting material is a suspension, then u. a. also consider such as z. B. after the synthesis. A very common case is with aqueous press cakes of water-soluble substances that z. B. be precipitated by salt. In this case the water represents the suspension liquid, but at the same time also has the function of the liquid which brings about the agglomeration.
In order for a controlled agglomeration to occur in this case, a liquid must be added which does not dissolve the dye, but which removes as much water from the press cake as it exceeds the requirement for agglomeration. It therefore serves as a suspension medium during agglomeration.
Liquids which do not dissolve the substance to be agglomerated, i.e. which serve as suspension liquid, are either water or an organic liquid that fulfills this condition.
As a further liquid which wets or dissolves the substance to be agglomerated and which is completely miscible with the suspension liquid at 20 C, an organic liquid or 100% mg miscible with water at 20 C is used in the event that the suspension liquid is water Mixture of such liquids in question, this organic liquid being, for example, lower aliphatic alcohols such as ethanol, methanol and especially propyl alcohol such as n- and iso-propyl alcohol, or ketones such as acetone. A preferred mixture is water / ethanol and water / n-propyl alcohol.
It goes without saying that, conversely, the suspension liquid can also be of an organic nature and the further liquid can be water.
In the event that the suspension liquid is of an organic nature and the other liquid is also of an organic nature with the conditions that the two liquids mix 100% at 20 C, the following organic liquid mixtures come into consideration, for example: Frigen / isopropanol, Frigen / ethanol, n -Butanol / benzene, benzene / n-propanol, special boiling point petrol / isopropanol, methanol / formamide, methanol / ethylene dichloride, perchlorethylene / iso- or n-propanol, and propanol / butanol. Particularly good results are achieved with the following liquid mixtures: Frigen / methanol, toluene / methanol, perchlorethylene / methanol, and 1, 1, 1-trichloroethane / methanol.
The quantities of the individual liquids can vary within wide limits. The ratios of the suspension liquid to the granulating liquid can be from 30:70 to 80:20. A ratio of 60:40 is preferred.
It is advantageous if additional auxiliaries are present during the agglomeration. As such come z. B. possible: especially coupage agents, about 1 to 1000%, based on the substance to be agglomerated, binders, about 1 to 20%, based on the substance to be agglomerated, dispersants or surfactants, depending on the solid either the nonionic, anionic or cationic in nature, in amounts of 0.1 to 10%, based on the substance to be agglomerated.
In addition to the surfactants, protective colloids can also be added in amounts of up to 20%.
As coupage agents especially salts come into consideration, such as alkali salts of inorganic acids, eg. B. of hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid, it being z. B. NaCl, Na2SO4 (Glauber's salt) and phosphate salts.
The main purpose of the binders is to increase the mechanical strength of the agglomerates. Such binders are, for. B. to be mentioned: polyvinyl alcohol, cellulose derivatives such as carboxymethyl cellulose and hydroxypropyl cellulose, polyvinylpyrrolidone and dextrin.
The agglomeration normally takes place at a temperature of about 5 to 100 ° C., in particular 15 to 50 ° C., for about 10 to 20 minutes.
The new process gives agglomerates which can have a wide variety of shapes, such as, for example, spherical, lenticular, elongated or rod-shaped. The diameter of these shapes is about 100 to 1000 microns, these agglomerates being of a very uniform size. However, larger agglomerates can also be produced, and depending on the stirring time these agglomerates can also be converted into a granulate form with a size of over 1000 microns.
These agglomerates or granulates have the property that, compared to the powder form of the corresponding substance, they have a much better wetting as well as a higher dissolution rate and faster dispersibility, even in certain cases instant properties and furthermore that they do not dust. They are also very free-flowing and continue to have a high bulk density. In this way, granules with instant properties can be produced from substances soluble in water or organic medium, i.e. H. with immediate disintegration in the solution medium. The agglomerates or granules obtained can generally be easily distributed or dissolved in the application medium without the use of special stirring devices. The high mechanical stability of the solid granules should also be emphasized.
The yield of these granulates can be up to 100%.
In most cases, the granulation proceeds completely if the liquids are selected correctly, so that the liquid phase is clearly separated from the solid phase of the agglomerates.
The new methods for isolating and drying solids from a suspension are particularly used by z. B. this suspension with at least one other liquid, which wets the solids contained in the suspension liquid to dissolve and is completely miscible with this, subjected to mixing until agglomerates of the solids form, these are separated from the liquid system and optionally dries.
The following examples illustrate the invention.
Temperatures are given in degrees Celsius. The solvent Frigen here and below is Frigen 113 TR corresponding to 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethane.
example 1
33 g of aqueous presscake, consisting of 33 percent by weight of the dye from a self-condensation product of p-nitrotoluene-2-sulfonic acid and 67 percent by weight of water, are slowly made into a paste at 20 with 17 g of n-propyl alcohol. While stirring, granules gradually form, which settle out. It is filtered off and dried at 40 in vacuo, 10 g of dye granules being obtained. This is dust-free and very soluble in cold water.
Example 2
50 g of the dye according to Example 1 (powder) are suspended in 50 g of n-propyl alcohol with stirring at 20 °. With further stirring, 30 ml of water are added dropwise to the suspension. After a while, granules are formed which are filtered off and dried at 40 in a vacuum. A dye granulate is obtained which is dust-free and quickly soluble in cold water.
However, it is also possible to change the addition of the two liquids by mixing 50 g of the same dye with 30 g of water, a thick paste being formed. 50 g of n-propyl alcohol are added to this pulp with stirring at 20. Granules separate from the suspension after about 15 minutes with stirring. These are filtered off and dried at 40 in vacuo.

are suspended in 50 g of Frigen at 20. 3.5 ml of methanol are added to the suspension. Granules are formed, which are filtered off and dried at 40. A dust-free and easily wettable dye granulate is obtained.
If, instead of the liquid system Frigen / methanol, the same amounts of the liquid system toluene / methanol are used, dust-free dyestuff granules are also obtained with otherwise the same procedure.
Example 6 20 g of the powdered dye of the formula
EMI4.2
are suspended in 80 ml of Frigen at 20. 30 ml of methanol are added dropwise to the suspension. Fine granules are formed immediately. These are filtered off and dried at 40 in a vacuum. The granules are dust-free, easily wettable and quickly soluble.
The granules can also be prepared by making the dye into a paste with approx. 20 ml of methanol and then suspending it in 80 ml of Frigen while stirring.
Example 7
7 g of the dye according to Example 6 are suspended in 25 g of toluene at 20. 10 ml of methanol are added dropwise with stirring. After stirring for a quarter of an hour, the dye is granulated. Small granules are formed which are filtered off and dried at 40 in a vacuum. A dust-free dye granulate is obtained.
Example 8
20 g of the powdery dye according to Example 4 are suspended at 20 in 50 g of toluene. 7 ml of methanol are added dropwise with stirring. Granules are formed, which are filtered off and dried at 40. A dust-free dye granulate is obtained.
Example 9
50 ml of Frigen are mixed with 7 ml of methanol at 20, whereby a homogeneous liquid results. This mixture is placed in a beaker and 20 g of the pulverulent dye according to Example 5 are added with stirring. Granules are formed which are filtered off and dried at 50 in a vacuum. A dust-free, easily wettable dye granulate is obtained.
If, instead of 50 ml of Frigen and 7 ml of methanol, 90 ml of Frigen and 10 ml of methanol are used, good granulation also results. It is also possible, conversely, to introduce the dye and to add the mixture of the two liquids.
Example 10

This mixture is placed in a beaker and 20 g of the powdery dye according to Example 4 are added with stirring. Beautiful granules are formed spontaneously.
It is filtered off and dried at 40 ".
Example 11
50 ml of perchlorethylene are mixed with 5 ml of methanol at 20. This mixture is placed in the beaker and 20 g of the powdery dye according to Example 4 are added. Granules are formed. Filter and dry at 40 ".
Example 12
5 g of finely ground coffee are suspended in 45 ml of ethanol. With turbulent stirring, 8 ml of an aqueous salt solution (consisting of 8 ml of water and 2 g of common salt) are slowly added. The resulting coffee granules are filtered and dried. Coffee granules which are instantly soluble in cold water are obtained.
With certain coffee powders, the moist granules are sticky. This stickiness can be avoided by using a mixture of the salt solution with ethanol (in a ratio of 7: 1) for the granulation.
