PATENTANSPRUCH

PATENT CLAIM
Process for the purification of wastewater by biological treatment, wherein the wastewater is first subjected to an anaerobic treatment with microorganisms on an inert carrier and then to an aerobic treatment, characterized in that the anaerobic treatment of the wastewater with microorganisms on an inert carrier is carried out in a fluidized bed .
The present additional invention relates to a further development of the method for cleaning waste water by biological treatment, in which the waste water is first subjected to an anaerobic treatment with microorganisms on an inert carrier and then to an aerobic treatment.
The method is advantageously carried out in a container, the size of which is adapted to the amount of wastewater to be cleaned. The container expediently has a device which enables the gas produced during the anaerobic treatment to be withdrawn. The anaerobic treatment is preferably carried out in such a way that the wastewater to be purified is introduced from below into a column or reactor in which the contact bed is located and the resulting gas and the pretreated wastewater are withdrawn separately from one another at the top. The anaerobic treatment takes, for example, 10 minutes to 10 hours, preferably 0.5 to 3 hours. As a carrier for the anaerobic bacteria, coal, coke, slag, porous stones, e.g. B. pumice stone or ceramic can be used. A preferred carrier material is activated carbon.
The support material can be arranged in one or more layers in the column or the reactor. The volume of the carrier material results from the required residence time and the throughput. The pH of the wastewater to be treated can be between 6 and 8. However, the pH of the wastewater to be treated is preferably adjusted to pH 7. The anaerobic treatment is advantageously carried out at temperatures between 10 and 400 ° C., preferably between 20 and 30 ° C. After the anaerobic treatment has been carried out, the wastewater is fed to a normal, aerobic treatment.
It has now been found that the process for purifying wastewater described in the claim of the main patent can be improved if the anaerobic treatment of the wastewater with microorganisms is carried out on an inert carrier in a fluidized bed.
The method according to the invention is explained in more detail by the following example:
example
A cylindrical vessel with a diameter of 10 cm and a length of 60 cm, which is provided with an inlet at the bottom and an outlet at the top, serves as the reactor. The inlet and outlet of the reactor are connected to one another by a line in which a circulation pump is located, so that the reactor contents can be continuously circulated. In the reactor there are 2000 g granulated activated carbon (layer thickness approx.
40 cm).
During operation, the circulation speed of the wastewater to be treated is set so that the active coal bed expands by approx. 30%. At the inlet, fresh wastewater is added to the wastewater in the circuit using a metering pump, while the same amount of treated wastewater is removed from the circuit at the outlet. The rate of addition of the fresh wastewater is adjusted so that the mean residence time of the wastewater to be treated in the contact bed is 1 hour. The treated wastewater withdrawn from the drain is fed to the usual aerobic treatment.
The wastewater to be treated is the wastewater from a dye plant to which 50 mg of a basic azo dye (Maxilon red BL) is added per liter, the absorption maximum of which is 520 nm.
The change in the total organic carbon content (TOC), the biological oxygen demand (BOD5) and the extinction (measured with a photometer in a 1 cm cell with white light) are measured. The test results obtained during a test duration of 7 weeks are summarized in the following tables and compared with the results obtained with exclusively aerobic treatment, the treatment duration in the aerobic systems being the same in each case.
