Abstract

A silk-like textile fibre material preheated to at least 100 DEG C is impregnated with a halogenated hydrocarbon treatment liquor containing a dye or a fluorescent brightener in a continuous operation in such a manner that the amount of liquor applied is more than 100%. The textile fibre material consists of linear high-molecular-weight polyamide, at least 90% by weight of which contains the recurring unit of the formula I, in which each R, independently of the others, denotes hydrogen or methyl, and in each cyclohexyl ring one of the hydrogen atoms can be replaced by the methyl group. The impregnated textile fibre material is then treated with superheated halogenated hydrocarbon vapour in such a manner that on leaving the vapour zone it still contains at least 5% of the treatment liquor applied. The process is suitable in particular for disperse dyes or brighteners. The process can be carried out in a simpler manner than conventional processes. When applied it produces level dyeings showing a very good degree of fixation and very good penetration. <IMAGE>
