Abstract
The silencer consists of a turbine (2) contained within a casing (1). The exhaust gases arrive via the duct (3), are expanded and cause the turbine (2) to rotate. Cooling air may be introduced via the duct (4). The turbine permanently isolates the source of noise, produced by the explosions in the engine, from the atmosphere. <IMAGE>

REVENDICATIONS

CLAIMS
1. Silencer for internal combustion engine, characterized by a chamber closed by the blades of one or more turbines, and inside which the exhaust gases are released.
2. Silencer for an internal combustion engine according to claim 1, characterized in that the turbine is driven by the engine.
3. Muffler for an internal combustion engine according to claim 1, characterized in that the turbine is driven by the exhaust gases.
4. Silencer for an internal combustion engine according to claim 1, characterized in that the turbine is driven by an auxiliary motor.
5. Silencer for an internal combustion engine according to claim 1, characterized in that the flow rate of the cooling air is variable.
6. Silencer for an internal combustion engine according to claim 1, characterized in that the blades of several turbines fit into each other.
The present invention relates to a silencer for an internal combustion engine.
The use of the silencer is known, which proceeds by gradually slowing down the exhaust gases. This silencer is a tube in which are arranged baffles which slow down the gas, but do not form a real acoustic occlusion.
The object of the invention is to remedy this drawback. To this end, the silencer according to the invention is characterized by a chamber closed by the blades of one or more turbines inside which the exhaust gases expand. The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the silencer according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a schematic sectional plan.
Fig. 2 is a schematic section on A-B.
The casing 1 delimits a chamber and surrounds a turbine 2 in which the gases, coming from the combustion in the cylinders, arrive from the engine through the duct 3. The chamber is closed by the blades of the turbine 2. Several turbines can be provided, including the blades fit into each other. Cooling air arrives through duct 4. The gases which arrive via duct 3 expand into the chamber and cause the turbine to turn, the speed of rotation of which measured at the end of the blades is lower than that of the sound. The gases are evacuated through line 5. Arrow 6 indicates the direction of rotation of the turbine.
