Abstract

The reference stations are transmitting stations (A, B) which are equipped with standard-frequency devices and which carry out modulation. The standard-frequency devices control the production of signals transmitted over a single sideband or transmitted over two sidebands with carrier-component suppression. The station to be located (C) is equipped with a receiver comprising two comparison stages, one of which supplies an information item about the approximate position and the other supplies an information item on the exact position. The method finds applications in offshore oil prospecting. <IMAGE>
