Abstract
Container closure with sealing foil insert elastically engaging with circumferential edge and groove in container opening
Description
Fig. 1 einen Teilschnitt durch eine Dose mit einem Verschluss gemäss der Erfindung;
The invention relates to a container closure with a sealing insert made of film material that is to be removed when the container is opened for the first time. Such closures are used in particular for closing a can containing consumable goods such as food powder or the like.
General requirements for such closures are that they seal the goods in the container in a vapor-tight manner before they are used for the first time and that they also perform a guarantee function in that they cannot be completely closed again after being opened for the first time, so that they can be purchased. Notify seller of unauthorized opening prior to first use.
A closure of the type described is known in which a metal ring is fixed to the inner wall of the fuselage.
The edge of the sealing insert, which is designed as a flat film, is glued onto a flange of this metal ring protruding radially inward. When opening the film for the first time, the film must be at least partially peeled off. The peeled-off area is no longer sticky and / or wrinkled, so that the buyer or consumer is notified of impermissible prior opening.
The known construction is expensive in terms of manufacture and the number of parts required. The invention is based on the object of creating a closure of the type mentioned at the beginning, which is vapor-tight before opening for the first time, performs a guarantee function in the manner described and at the same time can be manufactured more cheaply than before.
To solve this problem, a closure of the type described in the introduction is provided that a circumferential groove is provided in the inner wall of the container body, into which a suitably designed edge on the outer circumference of the elastic sealing insert resiliently engages radially outward.
In the case of the closure according to the invention, the additional metal ring and the adhesive connection between this and the sealing insert are saved. The groove in the inner wall of the container can be made with a spinning tool without great effort. The edge of the elastic sealing insert engages in this groove in a radially outwardly resiliently sealing manner.
In order to be able to exercise the guarantee function, the sealing insert should be designed in such a way that it cannot be snapped back into the groove after it has been removed for the first time, or only with a subsequently recognizable deformation or the like. This can be achieved, for example, by designing a gripping trough provided in the sealing insert, which is arranged eccentrically and is approximately crescent-shaped with a straight edge on the inside. A gripping trough designed in this way enables the sealing insert to be removed easily and makes it practically impossible to completely reinsert it with the edge snapping into the groove. The first insertion of such a sealing insert can be implemented in practice by pushing it in from the bottom side of the container, which is open before filling.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to schematic drawings of an exemplary embodiment with further details. Show it:
1 shows a partial section through a can with a closure according to the invention;
2 shows a perspective view of a sealing insert of the closure according to FIGS. 1 and
FIG. 3 shows a plan view of the sealing insert according to FIG. 2.
In Fig. 1, the reference numeral 1 denotes a cylindrical can such as is used, for example, for storing powdered or granular food concentrates (Ovomaltine or the like). The body 2 of the can is made of a rigid, dense material such as cardboard, plastic, metal or a composite material.
The closure of the can is in two parts and comprises an insert lid 3 and a sealing insert 4.
The plug-in cover 3 comprises a cover disk 5, a cylindrical ring flange 6 protruding at the outer end thereof, which has a snug fit with the inner wall of the can body 2, a radial outer flange 7 which is supported on the upper edge 8 of the can body 2, and a radial one Inner flange 9, which is used to grip and pull off the plug-in cover 3.
The plug-in lid 3 is used before the first use to protect the sealing insert 4 below it against mechanical stress and after the first use to keep the can contents away from environmental influences such as dirt or light or from spilling. The plug-in cover 3 is therefore used over the entire service life.
In the exemplary embodiment shown, the sealing insert 4 consists of an exaggeratedly thick film made of elastic plastic. Instead, the sealing insert can also consist of a composite film made of plastic and aluminum, the aluminum film on the outside and the plastic film on the inside facing the contents. While the aluminum gives the composite material the required rigidity and impermeability to vapor, the plastic, in addition to flexibility, has the desired sliding and sealing properties for the sealing insert 3.
The sealing insert is cup-shaped with a flat bottom 10 and an essentially conical side wall 11 which merges into the bottom 10 via a rounded portion 12. At the free end, the side wall 11 merges into a radial edge 13 via a sharp bend. This radial edge 13 fits into a correspondingly shaped groove 15 rolled into the inner wall 14 of the can body 2.
In the bottom 10 of the sealing insert a hablmond-shaped gripping trough 16 is embedded off-center, the straight edge 17 of which is located on the inside. The gripping recess has such dimensions that two fingers of the human hand can easily be inserted into it.
The sealing insert is for the first time from the ground, i. H. pushed in the direction of arrow A in FIG. 1 into the can body 2 until the radial edge 13 engages in the groove 15 of the can body 2. Dimensions and materials of groove 15 and edge 13 are matched to one another in such a way that a gas-tight fit of edge 13 in groove 15 is achieved. The can is then filled from the open bottom side, whereupon the bottom is placed firmly and tightly.
When used for the first time, in addition to the plug-in cover 3, the sealing insert 4 must also be removed. This is also done in the direction of arrow A, in that the first-time user inserts two fingers into the recessed grip 17 and presses them in the direction of arrow B in FIG. As a result, the radial edge 3 is disengaged from the groove 15 while the sealing insert 4 is tilted slightly, so that the sealing insert can be removed completely upwards from the opening of the can body 2.
It can be seen that a reinsertion is practically impossible for two reasons: - a pushing in of the sealing insert 4 opposite to the direction of arrow A is opposed by the tendency of the sealing insert 4 to spread out radially, - the design of the gripping recess is such, that it favors a removal of the sealing insert 4 in the direction of arrow A, but practically excludes gripping to push the sealing insert 4 back in in the opposite direction.
Although a two-part closure is described in the description, it might also be conceivable to design the sealing insert 4 in such a way that it makes an additional plug-in cover 3 superfluous. The sealing insert 4 would then have to be designed in such a way that it assumes the position shown in FIG. 1 before it is opened for the first time, while it would have to be used in the opposite position for reclosing after first use without a sealing effect.
