Abstract

Cardboard container with lid flap has integral pallet support fitted to base by flap slotted under side extensions (SW 3.4.78)

Description

 la fig. 1 est une vue en élévation du flan dont est fait le carton;
 la fig. 2 est une vue en élévation du flan dont est faite la palette;

   The present invention relates to a carton and a support pallet which can be stacked flat before being erected, optionally with the exception of their base, the carton and the pallet, optionally with the exception of the feet of the pallet, which can all both be folded from a sheet of cardboard or other pliable material.

   The invention relates to a pallet box, the box of which is formed from a sheet of cardboard or other foldable material and comprises four walls which, in use, are vertical and have at their upper and lower edges, flaps which can be folded inward during erection of the cardboard to respectively constitute the top and bottom faces thereof, and the pallet comprises a tray and a bottom hinged on the tray along one of the edges thereof , the bottom being foldable flat on the tray, the tray and the bottom being formed from a sheet of cardboard or other collapsible material and each having the same plan shape as the erected cardboard, the cardboard box and the pallet being held assembled in use by folding the flaps at the lower edges of the carton walls so that, the carton being viewed in a vertical position,

   the flaps of two opposite walls come above the bottom and the flaps of the other two opposite walls come below the bottom and are held between the bottom and the pallet tray by the weight of the carton and, when the carton is filled , also by the weight of its content.

   Advantageously, the hinges formed between the bottom and the tray of the pallet and between the lower flaps and the respective walls of the carton are each formed by parallel fold lines spaced by a distance greater than the cumulative thickness of the starting sheets of so as to allow the folding of the bottom and the flaps respectively.

   To save sheet material used and avoid unnecessary thickness of the bottom portion of the carton, the flaps of the carton of the bottom portion (the board seen erect and upright) have a length, to be measured from the outer fold line to 'to the parallel free edge of the flap, which is less than half the respective length or width of the carton, the latter being viewed in plan, so that the flaps form only margins in the bottom portion of the carton , the rest of this part being defined by the background.

   The pallet may include feet under the underside of the platform to support the latter above the ground. The legs are spaced apart to allow the insertion of ties that will secure the carton to the pallet or the insertion of a stacking fork, their arrangement being such that the fork can engage the pallet from any side.

   The subject of the invention is also the method for erecting the pallet box, according to which the walls of the box are erected, the upper flaps are folded towards the inside of the walls to constitute the top of the box, the box is placed upside down. on the floor, we fold one of the pairs of lower flaps so that they extend horizontally towards the inside of their walls, we put the pallet, bottom side facing down on the pair of folded flaps, we fold the other pair of lower flaps to cover the bottom, we fold the pallet tray so that it is upside down over the other pair of bottom flaps and the bottom and, finally, we turn the assembled pallet box over so that the pallet rests on the ground and the box is upright on the pallet.

   By way of example, a pallet box according to the invention will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
 fig. 1 is an elevational view of the blank from which the carton is made;
 fig. 2 is an elevational view of the blank from which the pallet is made;
 figs. 3 to 5 are perspective views showing the successive stages of the assembly of the pallet box.

   The carton is formed by conventionally folding a blank of paperboard or other sheet material, shown in FIG. 1. The blank comprises four panels 1, 2, 3 and 4, each of which has three regions which will form the walls Ai, A2, A3 and A4, the upper flaps B1, B2, B3 and B4 and the lower flaps Ci, C2, C3 and C4 respectively from erected cardboard. The wall A4 of the panel 4 carries a tab 5 fixed by sewing or stapling inside the outer edge of the wall A1 of the panel 1. If one therefore proceeds in a conventional manner, the flaps are folded inwardly of the walls. so as to constitute the top and bottom of the carton.

  However, the flaps Ci, C2, C3 and C4 being shorter than the flaps
B1, B2, B3 and Bu, they do not completely close the box at its bottom. The reasons for this particularity will emerge below.

   The pallet, shown in fig. 2, comprises two articulated parts constituting a plate 6 and a bottom 7 folding along the hinge on the plate 6. The plate 6 and the bottom 7 have substantially the same dimensions and the same shape as the cardboard seen in plan when ' it is erected. The top has feet 8 (see fig. 3 to 5) on its underside 6. The feet 8 are described in more detail below.

   Other features of the carton and of the pallet will emerge from the description of the assembly given below with reference to fig. 3àS.

   Fig. 3 shows the erected carton, only the upper flaps B1, B2, B3 and B4 being folded over and closing the upper part of the carton. The cardboard is then placed upside down on a flat surface. The lower flaps C2 and C4 are folded inwards and receive the bottom 7 of the pallet.

   As shown in fig. 4, the lower flaps Ci and C3 are folded and applied on the bottom 7.

   The hinges between the walls Ai and A3 and their respective lower flaps C1 and C3 are formed in parallel fold lines 9 separated by a distance greater than the cumulative thickness of the starting sheets, so as to allow the lower flaps C1 and C3 to be folded flat over the bottom flaps
C2 and C4 and the bottom 7. As shown in fig. 1, the lower flaps C2 and C4 are hinged.

   The plate 6 is then folded flat over the lower flaps C2 and C4 and the bottom 7.

   The hinge between the bottom 7 and the plate 6 is formed by two parallel fold lines 10 visible in FIG. 2, separated by a distance greater than the cumulative thickness of the sheets of which the cardboard and the pallet are made so as to allow the plate 6 to be folded flat on the lower flaps C1 and C3 and on the bottom 7.

   The box-pallet assembly is then brought by inversion to the position illustrated in FIG. 5; the contact between the two elements is then reinforced by the weight of the carton and, later, by the weight of its contents.

   The lower flaps C1, C2, C3 and C4 are shorter than the upper flaps B1, B2, B3 and B4 for two reasons: the economy of material and the reduction of the total thickness in the central region of the lower part of the body. pallet box of four thicknesses of two cardboard sheets, namely only the bottom 7 and the tray 6.

   By sheet of cardboard, it should be understood for the purposes of the invention, the flat, laminated or corrugated sheets of cardboard.

   The description of the feet is given below. These are formed of nine 8 blocks spaced in three rows along the four sides and in the middle of the underside of the platform to allow the fork of a stacker truck to be inserted between rows of adjacent blocks by any one. all four sides of the tray 6. The blocks 8 also serve to keep the pallet tray away from the floor or a second box on which the first is located. They also make it possible to adapt links around the cardboard-pallet assembly.

   The blocks 8 can be permanently attached to the tray 6 or be inserted into cardboard sleeves which are integral with the underside of the tray 6 or which are attached to it and extend parallel to the plane of the tray 6. The latter arrangement allows stack the pallet blanks perfectly flat by folding the sheaths when the blocks 8 are not inserted therein.

  The blocks 8 can be made of wood or other suitable material, for example expanded polyurethane. The blocks 8 and the cardboard sleeves can be fixed to the plate 6 by reinforcing strips 11 of cardboard, wood or other rigid material, the plate 6 being clamped between the strips 11 and the blocks 8 or sleeves by fixing means , such as rivets or staples. As a variant, the bands 11 can simply be stiffeners attached to the plate 6 by gluing or by staples or other fixing means.
