The invention relates to a cable drum with radially protruding flanges arranged at the ends of a core.
Conventional cable drums made of wood and metal have a considerable weight, which results in increased transport costs as well as in a more complicated, more difficult handling of both the loaded cable drums and, in particular, the empty cable drums.
In order to avoid these disadvantages, the present invention therefore provides for the cable drum to be produced from partially foamed plastic.
It has been shown that such cable drums z. B. made of rigid polystyrene foam, have sufficient stability and strength, and in addition, an adaptation to the respective application can be made by then, when the cable drums are exposed to increased loads, the foaming of the plastic is carried out to a lesser extent, d. H. the plastic has a higher liter weight than in cases in which less heavy loads are to be expected. In such a case, more strongly foamed material can be used which, due to the lower liter weight, brings even greater weight relief with it.
It has been shown that cable drums constructed according to the invention on the one hand - additionally benefiting from the small amount of plastic that is necessary due to the foaming - can be manufactured so inexpensively that they can be used as disposable drums, since the costs for a polystyrene hard foam Cable drums are lower than the administration, rental and transport costs of conventional rental drums.
Another advantage of a cable drum according to the invention is that it is insensitive to weathering, since it can neither rot like wooden drums nor rust like metal drums.
The cable drum according to the invention, the drum core of which can be provided with axial recesses to save additional weight, can either form a one-piece molded part or advantageously be made up of two, in particular identical, mutually staggered parts, the parts being additionally glued or welded to one another.
Further advantages and details of the invention emerge from the following descriptions of exhibition examples and with reference to the drawing. Show:
1 shows a partially sectioned side view of a cable drum according to the invention,
Fig. 2 shows a section along the line II-II in Fig. 1, and
3 shows a perspective view of a modified embodiment of a cable drum according to the invention.
The embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 consists of two parts which are joined together in the longitudinal center plane between the end flanges 1, each comprising an end flange and half of the drum core. The additionally glued end faces of the parts forming the cable drum, which abut one another in the parting line 3, are provided on one half with protruding folds 4 and on the other half with corresponding recesses 5, so that in a rotationally offset position the folds 4 of one part each fit into the recesses 5 the other part can intervene.
The drum core 2 is hollow and only has individual stiffeners 6, between which axially continuous recesses 7 are located. Each of the parts consisting of an end flange 1 and half a drum core forms a one-piece molded part made of rigid polystyrene foam, which is manufactured in a corresponding shape by post-expansion of pre-expanded granules.
In the embodiment of a two-part cable drum according to the invention shown in FIG. 3, the parting plane of the two parts does not lie in the middle between the end flanges. Instead, in this embodiment, the drum core 2 is divided into a plane laid through the axis of the cable drum. The two parts are connected by putting together and axially displacing the two dissimilarly structured parts 8 and 9, of which part 8 is provided with longitudinal grooves 10 dovetailed in cross section and part 9 with correspondingly shaped strips 11. Instead of this asymmetrical design of the two parts 8 and 9, a symmetrical structure can of course also be provided with this type of longitudinal division of the core.
The end flange 1 of the two parts 8 and 9 each has a semicircular recess 12 which receives the end of the cable core of the other part and thus effects a more stable connection between the two parts 8 and 9, which are also preferably additionally glued or welded.
The invention is not restricted to the exemplary embodiments shown. In addition to a different shape, it is also possible, for example, to provide the cable drums made of rigid polystyrene foam with a large number of material-saving perforation-like openings that practically do not impair the stability.
