Fig. 3 einen Teil-Horizontal-Schnitt nach der Linie 111-111 in Fig. 1 in vergrössertem Massstab und
The invention relates to a device for explosive welding of metallic workpieces, in particular of thin metal strips or foils, by means of an explosive device arranged on the overlap welding point.
For practical reasons, metal strips and foils can be rolled up in lengths of no more than 2000 m. However, various manufacturing processes require continuous tape consumption. Therefore, the end of a used roll of metal tape must be connected to the beginning of a new roll.
For certain practical applications, e.g. B. for the production of cable sheathing from the metal strips, a continuous electrical conductivity of the tape across the connection point and watertightness is also required across the connection point.
It is known to butt-weld metal strips to one another by cold pressing or to connect them by electrical spot welding.
For reasons of accuracy, the first-mentioned method is limited to strip widths of a maximum of 65 mm. In practice, however, strips up to 1400 mm wide have to be welded.
The required tightness is not guaranteed with spot welding.
In terms of laboratory technology, continuous explosive welding, i.e. H. welding with the aid of explosives has been tried, but not for joining workpieces as thin as tapes or foils. Because of the dangerous nature of the situation, this welding was carried out in the open air with a lot of noise. The welding conditions turned out to be difficult to control, especially with regard to precise and uniform dosage and ignition of the explosive.
All of this excludes industrial application.
The invention is based on the object of designing a device of the type described at the outset in such a way that it enables effortless, safe, low-noise, fast and perfect continuous welding of metallic workpieces, in particular of strips or foils.
To solve this problem it is provided according to the invention that the device has a multi-stage detonator, whose most difficult to ignite level acts on the explosive device, and that it also has parts for sealing the welding point with the explosive device and detonator as well as safety devices that cause the igniter can only be ignited when the device is closed.
The multi-stage detonator excludes accidental ignition or self-ignition of the explosive device, which for safety reasons is expediently made of a material that is difficult to ignite. A particularly important embodiment of the invention is the embedding of the primer in a plastic cover, in particular a polyethylene cylinder. As a result, metallic fragments of the detonator cap are retained in the plastic casing so that they cannot perforate the tapes in the event of the explosion. The plastic casing also dampens the explosion of detonation.
The selection of the explosive device and the design of the detonator therefore contribute significantly to increased safety. The safety devices, which only allow ignition when the device is closed, make a further contribution to increased safety. Finally, safety is increased by the fact that the welding point with the explosive device and detonator is tightly enveloped or enclosed by the device.
All of these measures increase safety to such an extent that industrial explosive welding can be carried out in closed rooms without any risk and without unreasonable noise pollution for the operating staff.
With the device according to the invention, metal strips and foils such. B. made of aluminum or aluminum alloys, welded in a very short time. With correct preparation, welding times of 30 seconds can be achieved.
Such times are shorter than required for tape processing. For example, connecting the end of a used roll of tape to the beginning of a new roll of tape using a tape accumulator would allow 3 to 5 minutes.
With the invention, a continuous overlap weld is achieved in a reproducible manner, which is continuously impermeable and electrically conductive.
Another advantage is the simple and safe handling of the device, which allows handling even by untrained personnel after a short training period.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to schematic drawings of an exemplary embodiment.
Show it:
1 shows a perspective view of a device according to the invention in the open state,
2 shows a section along the line II-II of FIG. 1 in the closed state of the device in which the explosive welding takes place,
3 shows a partial horizontal section along the line 111-111 in FIG. 1 on an enlarged scale, and FIG
4 shows a perspective view of the explosive device with the detonator attached.
The device shown in FIGS. 1 to 3 has a base 1 with an attachment 2 to which a hold-down device 4 is pivotably articulated at 3 and a cover 6 at 5. Furthermore, a silencer hood 8 and a release part 10 are pivotably articulated at 7 on the base 1 itself.
A web 11 protrudes from the base 1 and has a contact surface 12 for a multi-stage detonator 13 on one side. An ignition channel 14 penetrating the web 11 opens into the contact surface 12 and on the opposite side of the contact surface 12 has an enlargement 15 forming a cartridge chamber for receiving a blank cartridge. The igniter 13 has a cylinder body 17 made of a thermoplastic material, in particular a low-pressure polyethylene, with a central bore 18 into which a three-stage detonator 19 is inserted, the three stages of which are increasingly difficult to ignite.
On its side facing away from the contact surface 12 and facing the most difficult-to-ignite step of the detonator cap 13, the detonator 13 has an opening 20 and an axially extending slot 21 for receiving an explosive device 22. This explosive device 22 is designed in the form of a tape and has an explosive cord 23 made of a flat strip 24 of cardboard, plastic or another non-metallic material which reduces the explosive effect. This material also envelops the explosive cord 23.
The explosive effect can be varied with the thickness of the strip 24, which does not require a changed amount of explosives in the cord 23.
As can best be seen from FIG. 1, the base 1 serves as a support for two metal strips or foils 30, 31 to be connected, which are arranged overlapping at 32 on the base.
The explosive device 22 with the detonator 13 pushed onto it can be placed on the overlap point 32.
The hold-down device 4 has the task of holding down the strips lying one on top of the other at the point of overlap 32 with the explosive device placed thereon. For this purpose, the hold-down device 4 is provided with angled webs 34, 35 (FIGS. 1 and 2).
The hold-down device is open at the top.
The cover 6 is designed in such a way that, in the closed state, it engages over the hold-down device and, with an upper cover wall 36 and side webs 37, 38 supported on the base via the strips 30, 31, forms an explosive space 39 in which the hold-down device 4, the explosive device 22 on the overlap point 32 of the two bands 30, 31 and the igniter 13 are tightly connected.
The sound-absorbing hood 8, which has a somewhat larger dimensions than the recess 40 having the cover 6, can be slipped over the whole. The recess 40 lies in such a way that it completely encloses the described arrangement of cover 6, hold-down device 4, explosive device 22, cylinder 13 in the closed state, with lateral legs 41, 42 of the silencer hood 8 also extending over the straps 30, 31 on the base 1 prop up.
The trigger part 10 contains a firing pin apparatus with a firing pin 45, which can interact with the blank cartridge 16 when it is folded up vertically in the firing position. The release part is normally locked against unintentional pivoting in the release or ignition position by means of a mechanical lock, not shown, which can be unlocked via an opening 46 on the base. The release part 10 also has an ignition safety device at 47 and a bolt 48 for locking safety. The trigger part 10 can be pivoted into the vertical firing position in the direction of the arrow by means of a handle (not shown).
In an area protruding over the length of the hold-down device 4, the cover 6 has a head 50 which, when the cover 6 is folded down, receives the web 11 and with its end face 51 is flush with the corresponding end face of the release part 10 which is folded into the ignition position. In this position, an unlocking tongue 52 is retracted into the opening 46. Furthermore, an unlocking tab 53 also attached to the end face 51 of the head 50 interacts in an unlocking manner with the ignition fuse 47 of the triggering part. Finally, in this position, the bolt 48 of the release part is moved into a slot 54 on the head 50 to prevent it from being closed.
With the described device, the explosive welding of the metal strips 30, 31 is carried out as follows:
First, the tape ends with the overlap shown at 32, which in practice can have a width of 8 to 20 mm, are attached to the base 1 by means of adhesive tape.
The band-shaped explosive device 22, onto which the detonator 13 according to FIG. 4 is pushed, is then placed on the overlap point 32, the detonator 30 coming to rest in a depression in the base 1, not shown. The hold-down device 4 is lowered onto the explosive device 22 in the direction of the arrow so that the angled webs 34, 35 rest on the strip surfaces of the strip 24 lying to the side of the cord 23.
Then the blank cartridge 16 is pushed into the extension 15 of the ignition channel 14 in the web 11.
Then the cover 6 and above the sound dampening 8 is pivoted in the direction of the arrow on the base.
In the completely lowered state of the cover 6, the unlocking tongue 52 is retracted into the square hole 46 and interacts with the mechanical lock to prevent unintentional pivoting of the release part 10.
The clamping device for the firing pin is then tensioned by means of the actuating member 49.
The trigger part 10 can now be pivoted into the ignition position in the direction of the arrow. By pressing the release part
10 to the end wall 51 of the head 50 of the cover 6, a lock is established between the release part 10 and the head 50 of the cover 6 by means of a bolt 48 and slot 54, the ignition fuse 47 is unlocked by means of the unlocking tab 53 and the blank cartridge 16 is automatically released by the built-in mechanism ignited by means of firing pin 45.
The most easily ignitable stage of the primer 14 is ignited pyrotechnically by the fire jet of the blank cartridge. This stage ignites the next following second stage and this in turn the most difficult to ignite third stage, which advantageously has the same detonation speed as the explosive device 22 and finally detonates it.
During the explosion, such a pressure develops in the blasting space 39 that the strap ends of the straps 30, 31 are welded to one another, the material of the two strap ends flowing into one another at the point of contact.
After the welding is complete, the parts 4, 6, 8, 10 are opened again, the remains of the adhesive tape and the explosive device are removed and the connection point is cleaned with a brush.
The device described is advantageously used for welding strips made of light metals, in particular aluminum and aluminum alloys. In principle, however, workpieces made of other metals can also be explosively welded with the device described.
The device described can also be used to weld thick-walled metallic workpieces. In this case, however, it is expedient to use stronger explosive devices and to make the parts of the device correspondingly stronger, so that in this case, too, adequate safety is guaranteed for industrial use.
The construction of the device is such that the path of the belts 30, 31 crosses the base 1 of the device and is parallel to the pivot axes of the parts 4, 6 and 8 as well as the release part 10, so that when the device is open, the belt in question can pass through unhindered can.
