Methanol, Äthanol, Propanol, Butanol, Glykol usw., Diäthylenglykoldiäthyläther, z. B. Diäthylenglykoldimethyläther (Diglyme), Methylcellosolve u. a. m.
1500 Teilen Wasser in mehreren Portionen gewaschen.

The present invention relates to a process for the production of pyrazoline compounds and their use for the optical brightening of synthetic and natural high molecular weight non-textile organic material.
The preparation of 1,3-diarylpyrazolines according to the scheme
EMI1.1
is known.
Analogously, it is to be expected that the corresponding 4-alkyl-substituted pyrazolines can be obtained from corresponding ot-alkyl-substituted ketones. This is actually the case when the condensation according to the scheme
EMI1.2
is carried out in an alkaline medium.
It has now surprisingly been found that 2-alkyl-substituted arylalkyl ketones lead to new 1,3-diaryl-4-methyl-5-alkylpyrazolines under suitable reaction conditions with substituted phenylhydrazines with storage.
The inventive method for the preparation of pyrazoline compounds of the formula
EMI2.1
wherein Rl trifluoromethyl, cyano, a radical - COOR,
EMI2.2
where R and R 'independently of one another represent hydrogen or alkyl containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms which is optionally substituted by hydroxy, alkoxy, amino, sulfo or carboxy, or R and R together with the nitrogen atom are pyrrolidino or morpholino or piperidino optionally substituted with methyl, the radical - SO2R ", where R 'is alkyl or alkenyl optionally substituted by hydroxy, alkoxy, amino, sulfo or carboxy, having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or is aryl, R2 is hydrogen, chlorine or 1 to 3 carbon atoms containing alkyl, R3 is alkyl with 1 to 15 carbon atoms or aralkyl, R4,
R5 and R6, independently of one another, denote hydrogen, halogen up to atomic number 35, alkoxy, alkyl or acylamino each having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, is characterized in that a phenylhydrazine of the formula
EMI2.3
or an acid addition salt thereof, in which R1 and R2 have the meanings given, with a ketone of the formula
EMI2.4
wherein X is hydroxyl, chlorine or the remainder
EMI2.5
represents, where Y and Y 'independently of one another are alkyl with 1 to 4 carbon atoms or Y and Y' together with the nitrogen atom are pyrrolidino or piperidino or morpholino optionally substituted by methyl, and R3, R4, Rs and Rs have the meaning given, in the presence a strong acid in an aqueous, aqueous-organic or organic phase at temperatures above 20 "C.
It is preferred to work in a strongly acidic medium, pH below 7, with at least 1 mole of acid generally being used per mole of phenylhydrazine. As strong acids z. B. p-toluenesulfonic acid or mineral acids such as hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid or perchloric acid or mixtures of such acids are used with advantage. Particularly suitable organic solvents are polar solvents, such as monohydric or polyhydric alcohols, e.g. B.
Methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, glycol, etc., diethylene glycol diethyl ether, e.g. B. diethylene glycol dimethyl ether (diglyme), methylcellosolve u. a. m. If a somewhat polar solvent is used as the solubilizer, apolar solvents such as benzene, toluene, xylene, chlorobenzene, dioxane, etc. can also be used. The reaction can be carried out at temperatures from room temperature upwards, e.g. B.
between 20 and 150ob. To complete the reaction within technically advantageous periods of time, e.g. B. within 3 to 8 hours, temperatures of 60 to 1200C are preferred.
In many cases the reaction is practically quantitative and very pure compounds are formed.
This reaction can produce cis and trans isomers, which can be produced more or less selectively through the choice of reaction conditions.
The pyrazoline compounds of the formula (1) are valuable optical brightening agents which have significantly higher lightfastness than the previously known 1- (4'-carbalkoxyphenyl) -3-phenyl-pyrazolines. They are also characterized by a neutral, i.e. H. less reddish-tinged white tone, thanks to better wash fastness and peroxide resistance compared to the previously known 1- (4'-alkylsulfonyl) - and 1- (4 - sulfamoylphenyl) -3-phenyl-pyrazolines.
In the context of the definition according to formula (1), compounds of the formula are of predominant interest
EMI2.6
where R7 is cyano, a radical -COOR,
EMI2.7
where Rx and R'x independently represent hydrogen or alkyl containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms which is optionally substituted by hydroxy, alkoxy, amino, sulfo or carboxy, the radical -SO2R Zx and R "x optionally being hydroxyl, alkoxy, amino, sulfo or carboxy-substituted alkyl or alkenyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, Rs alkyl having 1 to 15 carbon atoms, Rs and Rlo independently of one another hydrogen, chlorine or alkyl having 1 to 3 carbon atoms.
Preferred compounds correspond to the formula
EMI2.8
where R11 is cyano, carboxy, carbalkoxy with 2 to 5 carbon atoms or methylsulfonyl, R12 is alkyl with 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R13 is hydrogen, methyl or chlorine in the 3 or 4-position.
The pyrazolines of the formula are in the foreground of practical interest
EMI3.1
wherein R14 is cyano, methoxycarbonyl or methylsulfonyl and Rls is hydrogen or chlorine in the 3- or 4-position.
This novel rearrangement according to the scheme:
EMI3.2
enables a simple synthesis of 1,3-diaryl-4-methyl-5-alkylpyrazolines which are otherwise difficult or impossible to access, in particular those formulas (1) and (4) to (6).
To achieve a very specific shade of white it often proves to be expedient to use mixtures of pyrazolines which can be prepared according to the invention. Such mixtures can be present as purely mechanical mixtures of the individual components or as actual crystal compounds whose crystal structure is different from that of the individual components. Such mixtures can be produced on the one hand by dry mixing together, melting together or joint recrystallization of the individual components.
The pyrazole compounds of the formula (1) are almost colorless to yellowish, well-crystallized substances which are difficult to insoluble in hot water. They dissolve in organic solvents, for example in alkanols, lower fatty acids, lower fatty acid esters, lower fatty acid amides, lower ketones and optionally halogenated aromatic hydrocarbons. The practically colorless organic solutions are characterized by vivid violet to blue fluorescence.
The pyrazoline compounds are suitable for the optical brightening of synthetic and natural high molecular weight non-textile organic material. Synthetic organic polyplasts are mainly used as high molecular weight organic material, i.e. H. plastics obtainable by polymerization, polycondensation and polyaddition in question, e.g. B. polyolefins such as polyethylene or polypropylene, also polyvinyl chloride, polyacrylonitrile and its copolymers, polyamides and cellulose esters.
The high molecular weight organic material is optically brightened, for example, by adding small amounts of optical brighteners obtained by means of the process according to the invention, e.g. B. 0.0001 to 2%, preferably 0.001 to 0.3%, based on the material to be lightened, optionally together with other substances such as plasticizers, pigments, etc. incorporated. Depending on the type of material to be brightened, this is done by dissolving the brightener in the monomers before the polymerization, in the polymer mass, or, together with the polymer, in the solvent.
The material pretreated in this way is then brought into the desired final shape by methods known per se, such as calendering, pressing, extrusion, painting, casting or injection molding.
The optically brightened, high-molecular, organic material has a pleasing, pure white, bluish fluorescent appearance.
In the case of polyacrylonitrile, the addition of the optical brightener produced according to the invention in the swollen state of the polymer should be mentioned in particular.
The inventive pyrazolines can also serve as detergent brighteners, for. B. for soaps, soluble salts of higher fatty alcohol sulfates, higher and / or more flat alkyl-substituted arylsulfonic acid of the sulfocarboxylic acid esters of middle to higher alkanols, higher alkanoylaminoalkyl or aminoaryl carbon or sulfonic acids or the fatty acid glycerol sulfates; also non-ionic detergents, such as higher alkylphenol polyglycol ethers.
The lightened detergents can contain the usual fillers and auxiliaries, e.g. B. alkali poly and polymetaphosphates, alkali silicates, alkali borates, alkali salts of carboxymethyl cellulose, foam stabilizers such as alkanolamides of higher fatty acids, or complexones such as soluble salts of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid.
The pyrazolines which can be prepared according to the invention are expediently incorporated into the detergents in the form of their solutions in neutral, water-miscible and / or highly volatile organic solvents such as lower alkanols, lower alkoxyalkanols or lower aliphatic ketones. But they can also be used in finely divided solid form on their own or in a mixture with dispersants.
They can, for example, be mixed, kneaded or ground with the detergent substances and then mixed with the usual auxiliaries and fillers. The lightening agents are mixed, for example, with the washing-active substances, auxiliary substances and fillers and water to form a paste, and this is then sprayed in the spray dryer. The pyrazoline derivatives can also be mixed with finished detergents, e.g. B. by spraying a solution in a volatile and / or water-soluble organic solvent on the dry detergent kept in motion.
The content of optical brightener of the formula (1) in the detergents is advantageously 0.001 to 0.5%, based on the solids content of the detergent. Such detergents containing optical brighteners of the formula (1) have a white appearance which is greatly improved in daylight compared to detergents free of brighteners.
Further details can be found in the following examples. The temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
example 1
297 parts of 4-methylsulfonylphenylhydrazine hydrochloride are suspended in a mixture of 1500 parts of n-butanol and 500 parts of 85% strength phosphoric acid. The suspension is heated to 105 ° C. with stirring and 249 parts of 4-chloro-α-hydroxymethyl butyrophenone are added dropwise at this temperature over the course of one hour. The resulting, red-brown solution is stirred for a further 4 hours at 100 to 110 ° C., then cooled to 70 ° C. and at this temperature with
1500 parts of water washed in several portions.
The mixture is then cooled to 10 ° C. and the mixture is stirred for a few hours at this temperature, the product crystallizing out. The pale yellow crystal pulp is then filtered off with suction, the filter material is washed with butanol and water and dried in vacuo at 60 to 70 ° C. In this way, 350 parts of the compound of the formula are obtained
EMI4.1
from melting point 163 to 170ob. The same compound is obtained if 4-chloro-α-chloromethyl-butyrophenone or 4-chloro-α-dimethylamino-butyrophenone are used instead of 4-chloro-α-hydroxymethyl-butyrophenone.
According to nuclear magnetic resonance spectra, about 2/3 of the product consists of trans and 1/3 of cis isomers. According to the present process, a very pure product is obtained which fluoresces in organic solvents with a very intense blue-violet color. The product is mainly used for the optical brightening of polyamide, cellulose acetate, cellulose triacetate and woolen articles.
Example 2
If, in Example 1, the 297 parts of 4-methylsulfonylphenylhydrazine hydrochloride are replaced by 180 parts of 4-cyanophenylhydrazine hydrochloride and the 249 parts of 4-chloro-α-hydroxymethyl-butyrophenone by 240 parts of 4-chloro-α-hydroxymethyl isocaprophenone, the result is 274 parts of the compound of formula
EMI4.2
with a melting point of 160 to 174 ° C. The same product is obtained if, instead of 4-chloro-α-hydroxymethylisocaprophenone, 4-chloro-α-chloromethyl-isocaprophenone is used. The product is a mixture of little of the cis and predominantly of the trans isomers. If the product is recrystallized from ethyl alcohol, the pure trans isomer with a melting point of 1740C is obtained.
Both the trans and the cis compounds and their mixtures fluoresce in organic solvents with a very intense blue-violet color. The products are mainly used for the optical brightening of polyamide, polyacrylonitrile, cellulose acetate, cellulose triacetate and woolen articles. When incorporated into detergents, they also lighten the washing powder very much.
Example 3
10 parts of 4-carboxyphenylhydrazine hydrochloride, 160 parts of diglyme, 40 parts of concentrated hydrochloric acid, 50 parts of water and 10 parts of α-hydroxymethyl-caprophenone are stirred, heated to the boil and refluxed for 5 hours.
The reaction mixture is then cooled and poured into water. The precipitated crystals are filtered off with suction and can be crystallized from methanol. In this way the compound of the formula is obtained
EMI5.1
with a melting point of 210ob. If a-diethylamino-caprophenone is used instead of CL-hydroxymethyl-caprophenone, the same compound is obtained. The compound fluoresces intensely red-violet in organic solvents and is suitable for the optical brightening of soap as well
Casting compounds made from polyolefins, polyamide, cellulose acetate and
Cellulose triacetate.
Example 4
135 parts of 4-carboxymethylphenylhydrazine hydrochloride are suspended in 2000 parts of methanol and 200 parts of concentrated sulfuric acid are slowly added, the temperature not exceeding 40.degree. C. 107 parts of a-hydroxymethylbutyrophenone are then added dropwise at 400.degree Stirred for days at the same temperature.
After a reaction time of 12 hours, the product begins to crystallize out in almost colorless needles. After a reaction time of 4 days, the mixture is stirred for a few more hours at 0OC, then suction filtered and the light yellow filter material is washed neutral with water. It is then dried in vacuo at 70 to 80 ° C. In this way, 40 parts of the compound of the formula are obtained
EMI5.2
from a melting point of 169 to 173 ° C. The same compound is obtained if, instead of the a-hydroxymethyl-butyrophenone, a-chloromethyl-butyrophenone or a-piperidinomethyl-butyrophenone is used. If you umkri crystallized from ethanol, you get the pure cis compound as colorless
Needles with a melting point of 173 C.
Example 5
If one proceeds according to a method given in Examples 1 to 4 and uses molar amounts of the p-substituted phenylhydrazine hydrochlorides and α-hydroxymethyl- or α-chloromethyl or α-dialkylaminomethyl-aryl-alkyl-ketones given in the table below, the 1,3-diaryl-4-methyl-Salkyl-pyrazolines of the formula given below
