As ligands, phosphorus compounds can also be used in which the phosphorus is bound to both oxygen and carbon, such as. B. Phenyl-di-n-butoxyphosphine. Palladium-olefin complexes or complexes with alkyl and aryl nitriles are also possible.
Examples of such complex compounds are: bis (triphenylphosphine) Pd (II) chloride, nitrate, carbonate, acetate, bis (dimethylphenylphosphine) palladium (II) chloride, bis (trinaphthylphosphine) palladium (1I) chloride, [1, 2- (bis-diphenylphosphine) ethane / palladium (II) chloride, bis (trioctylphosphine) palladium (II) nitrate, tetrakis (triphenylphosphine) palladium (O), tetrakis (dimethylphenylphosphine) palladium (O), tetrakis ( tri-p-methoxyphosphine) palladium (O), tetrakis (diphenyl-p-chlorophenylphosphine) palladium (O), tetrakis (trinaphthylphosphine) palladium (O), bis (p methoxyphenyl) palladium (II) acetate, bis (triphenylphosphine ) Pd.maleic anhydride, bis (triphenylphosphine) Pd.p benzoquinone,

The complex compounds can also be prepared in situ in the reaction mixture. Sometimes it is advantageous to add an excess of the ligands contained in the complex to the reaction mixture. The amount of ligand added is not critical, but it is advantageously between 0 and 20 mol, based on 1 mol of palladium catalyst. The amount of catalyst added is not critical; 0.01 to 10% catalyst, based on the diene, is preferably used.
Particularly suitable acidic catalysts are mineral acids such as sulfuric acid or, in particular, phosphoric acid; Carboxylic acids, such as. B. alkanecarboxylic acids, e.g. B. acetic acid, trifluoroacetic acid, oxalic acid, p-toluenesulfonic acid, etc.
Acid salts, such as B. potassium sulfate, or so-called. Lewis acids such as boron trichloride, boron trifluoride, zinc chloride, come into consideration as acidic catalysts. The amount of acid to be used can vary within a wide range, e.g. B. 0.01-100 moles of acid can be used per mole of palladium compound. However, the amount of acid depends to some extent on the strength of the acid, about 0.01 to 10 moles being preferred in the case of a mineral acid such as phosphoric acid and amounts of about 1 to 100 moles being preferred in the case of a carboxylic acid such as acetic acid.
The weaker the acid, the greater the amount used.
The process can be carried out in the presence or in the absence of a solvent. Particularly suitable solvents are those which are inert towards the starting material and end product and in which the catalyst is at least partially soluble. Examples of such solvents are linear and cyclic ethers such as diethyl ether, tetrahydrofuran and dioxane; Alcohols such as methanol, ethanol, propanol; Ketones such as acetone; Acid amides such as dimethylformamide; Nitriles such as acetonitrile; Pyridine and homologues; aliphatic, optionally chlorinated hydrocarbons such as hexane, dichloroethane; aromatic, optionally chlorinated hydrocarbons such as benzene and toluene; Chlorobenzene; Olefins; Ester; Sulfones and phosphoric acid amides.
When working in the absence of solvents, a catalyst is selected which is at least partially soluble in the starting material.
The reaction can be carried out, for example, at temperatures between 60 and 1500 ° C., preferably between 80 and 1250 ° C. The reaction can be carried out in a pressure vessel under autogenous pressure, but also at elevated pressure or at atmospheric pressure.
In order to achieve optimal yields, the progress of the reaction is expediently monitored analytically by taking samples, for example by gas chromatography.
Synthesis example 1
50 ml of distilled isoprene, 1 kg of dioxane, 5 g (16.5 mmol) of palladium acetylacetonate, 23 * 1 g (82.5 mmol) of tricyclohexylphosphine and 1.9 g of 85% phosphoric acid (16.5 mmol) are placed in a four-necked flask Argon atmosphere kept under reflux until the internal temperature exceeds 90 "C.
At an oil bath temperature of 1200 C, 1 kg of isoprene is then added dropwise in such a way that the temperature does not fall below 88 "C (approx. 30 ml / hour), but remains in an interval of 90-95" C. The isoprene addition is complete after 50 hours and the reaction product now consists essentially of 2,7-dimethyl-1,3,7-octatriene. The mixture is left to react for 40 more hours, the internal temperature rising to 105-108 "C. The dioxane is now removed on a rotary evaporator at 40/20 mmHg. The black-colored, remaining oil is steam distilled, with 780 g of distillate being obtained. and polymers) is 215 g.
Fractional distillation of the oil in a Raschigring column gives 550 g of 2,7-dimethyl-1,4,6octatriene at 63 "/ 10 mmHg, and 20 = 1.4885. Odor: greasy, green, soapy, terpenic.
