La fig. 1 est un schéma explicatif;

In automatic machines preparing espresso coffee served in cups which are placed one after the other under a spout, the fill level varies very often. Sometimes the coffee spills out of the cup and spills out onto the tray.
As these machines are used in public establishments, complaints are still quite numerous. This deficiency is usually due to the fact that the person working in the service of the machine is not able to constantly monitor the filling of the cups.
Devices aiming at automatically fixing the filling level have been proposed, in particular devices which include a movable part comprising a level detector which is introduced into the cup before the coffee begins to flow, which remains there. during filling, which controls the stopping of the flow of coffee when its free surface reaches a level fixed in advance, and which retracts to allow the withdrawal of the full cup and the installation of the next cup.
In a known device of this type, the detector is formed by two electrodes between which an electric current passes when they are immersed in the coffee when its free surface reaches a certain level. Unfortunately in this device, the current flow conditions are very quickly modified by the deposits of foam and grains which form on the electrodes and their operation leaves much to be desired.
The object of the present invention is to eliminate these drawbacks of espresso coffee machines by providing them with a device making it possible to fix with precision and regularity the filling level of the coffee in the successively filled cups.
This device, which is of the aforementioned type, is characterized in that said detector is constituted by a thermal probe which reacts when it comes into contact with the free surface of the hot coffee and comprising cooling means which intervene after stopping the filling to bring the temperature of the probe back to its initial value.
The accompanying drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an explanatory diagram;
fig. 2 is a sectional view of the mobile part of the device.
The device shown is part of an espresso coffee machine of which only the electromagnetic valve V mounted on the coffee inlet pipe and the filling spout A located at the end of this pipe have been shown in the drawing.
This device comprises a first part, consisting essentially of a thermoelectric probe 10 and of a cooling system for this probe, which is mounted on the machine so as to effect a vertical back-and-forth movement between a working position. drawn in full line, and a rest position drawn in phantom (fig. 1 and 2).
The probe is lowered as soon as the order for a portion of coffee has been placed, for example by pressing a push-button, the rise takes place immediately after stopping filling. These movements can be carried out by any known means and do not form part of the invention, which is why they do not appear in the drawing.
The second part of the device, located inside the body of the machine, includes an electrical circuit in which are inserted the excitation coils B and the valve V and an electromagnetic valve P belonging to the cooling system of the machine. probe 10.
This probe 10 is mounted in a tubular metal support 12, by means of a tightening sleeve 13, in
Teflon, and a locking ring 14.
The cooling system comprises a cold water inlet pipe 15 connected, via the valve P, to a reservoir, not shown. This duct passes through the base of the support 12 and opens out at the upper part of an annular chamber 16 surrounding the probe. This chamber 16 is bounded on the outside by the internal wall of an extension 17 of the support 12 in which slots 18 are made.
An arm 19, intended to abut against the edge of the cup to be filled during the descent of the movable part of the device to fix the working position of the probe and the filling level of the cups, is fixed on the extension 17 in an adjustable position.
The operation of the device is as follows:
When the movable part is lowered into its working position and the free surface of the coffee being ascended comes into contact with the lower end of the probe, in which the weld is housed, a thermoelectric couple is created under the effect of the temperature of the coffee, the resulting electric current, amplified by means not shown, controls the closing of the valve V and the opening, for a short time, of the valve P.
The filling is then instantly stopped and a small quantity of cold water is sprayed into the chamber 16 onto the body of the probe. This water flows by gravity along the latter, cooling it, while the mobile part rises to its rest position.
On reaching this last position, the probe has returned to its initial temperature, its surface is absolutely clean, free of any deposit of foam or coffee powder, and therefore ready to operate again for filling a new cup in the best conditions.
It is obvious that the invention is not limited to the embodiment shown and described. In particular, the probe could be of another type than a thermoelectric probe, the important thing being that it reacts to the temperature of the liquid. Furthermore, the movable part of the device could be fixed and the cup to be filled placed on a movable plate moving upwards before filling to be, when opening the valve V in a relative position, with respect to the probe, corresponding to the working position of the latter, as drawn.
