The present invention relates to a device for the continuous production of a foam strand, with an overflow container upstream of the foaming path for the introduction of flowable reactants.
A known method is such that the reactants are introduced into an overflow container near the bottom and begin to foam therein. The partially foamed mixture then flows over an overflow edge of the container onto a path, on which the further foaming and solidification of the mixture take place. This process can be carried out more rationally, the less often it is necessary to interrupt it. For example, it is already possible today to do this without having to switch off the machine, even when changing to a different mixture composition. It would also be desirable to avoid shutting down the machine if the width of the foam strand that is being produced is to be adjusted.
However, this is not possible with the known method because the width of the overflow container automatically determines the width of the web to be foamed. This is a major disadvantage of this known method.
The present invention has set itself the goal of eliminating this disadvantage. Their essence is that the overflow container walls made of elastically stretchable material, e.g. B. rubber, which are mounted on a rigid, extendable support.
The width of the overflow container, which is preferably in the form of a trough, should at the same time determine the foam width of the foam strand to be foamed. In the unstretched state of the wall material, it should therefore be selected to be as large as the smallest width of the foam strand to be produced. If an increase in this width is required during foaming, it is easily possible to stretch the walls made of elastically stretchable material by pulling out the carrier and thus to enlarge the trough width accordingly. An essential advantage of this type of trough widening is that the tightness of the walls of the overflow container is given in the same way, whether the overflow container has a small or a large width.
There are no gaps in the walls that could become caked with material and thus impair functionality.
A smooth functioning of the device according to the invention can be achieved particularly easily if the pull-out carrier consists of trough halves which can be telescoped into one another. The expandable walls are only attached to the side walls of the trough halves, so that when the construction is pulled apart, the expansion of the material is distributed over the entire width of the overflow container. In this way, the trough width can, for example, easily be enlarged three times. The relative position of the trough halves to one another can be fixed by means of a mechanical lock.
However, it is also possible to adjust the width of the overflow container by moving the trough halves by means of electrical or hydraulic devices which simultaneously fix the corresponding desired setting.
In order to introduce the reactants into the overflow container, it has been found to be advantageous if the distance between them is adjustable and the tubes reach close to the base of the container. These tubes can be made of flexible material, for example, which enables their mutual spacing to be adjusted particularly easily.
This distance adjustment is necessary if the width of the overflow container is changed. There is of course also the possibility that connections are attached directly in the elastic wall, e.g. B. are vulcanized, which can move in elongated holes of the carrier when the width of the overflow container is adjusted. However, this second variant is less advantageous as it makes maintenance somewhat more difficult.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing, for example: FIG. 1 shows a cross section through a foaming device of conventional design, FIGS. 2, 3 and 4 show a view, a transverse and longitudinal section of an overflow container according to the invention.
The conventional foaming system shown in FIG. 1 consists of an overflow container 1 into which the reactants are entered at 4. These begin to react, foam up and in the process pass over the edge of the overflow container 1 onto the foaming path 3, where foaming is ended and the foam solidifies.
FIG. 2 shows a view of an overflow container according to the invention, the walls made of elastically stretchable material not being shown in order to better illustrate the pull-out construction. The trough halves 6, 7 are telescoped into one another. The edge of the overflow container over which the foaming material flows is bent outwards so that the foaming material can be applied directly to the foaming web 3.
Fig. 3 shows a cross section through an overflow container according to the invention, from which the arrangement of the wall 2 made of stretchable material, preferably rubber, can be seen. This wall 2 is not attached to the longitudinal wall of the construction of the overflow container 1, but only to the side walls, so that when the construction is pulled out, the expansion of the material can be transferred to the entire width. 4 shows a longitudinal section through an overflow container according to the invention. This section shows, in particular, the arrangement of the tubes 8 which are used for introducing the reactants.
