The present invention relates to a changing image device as well as a particular use of this device.
The term image is taken here in its most general sense, and includes both graphic prints or any decorations, as letters or numbers, texts or signs of any kind, in general any element capable of being reproduced or performed on a two-dimensional medium.
The changing image device according to the invention is characterized by the fact that it comprises 2n + 1 supports, n being an integer, in the form of equal rectangular panels arranged edge to edge, on which are wound at least 4n strips of the same length arranged in at least two rows, a first strip, connecting a first support to a second support, being wound on this first support, a second strip, of the same row as the first strip, connecting a third support to the second support, being wound on this third support, in the same direction as the first strip, the two remaining strips, of the other row, being wound together, in a direction opposite to the first and second strips, on the second support, the end of the one of said remaining strips, wound up on the second support, being fixed to the first support,
while the end of the other remaining strip, wound on the second support, is fixed to the third support, the whole in such a way that by folding the first and third supports on the second support, then by moving the supports apart by making turning the first and third supports around their folded sides, previously external, one operates the transfer of the bands from one support to the other, in one direction or the other.
Such a device can find many applications, such as gadgets, games, catalogs, advertising leaflets, screens, picture books for children, decorative panels for interior decoration. This list is by no means exhaustive.
A particularly interesting use is the use as an advertising panel with automatic image change.
This use is characterized in that the supports are suspended by an end support mounted on a horizontal shaft driven in discontinuous rotation. The rotation of the other supports takes place automatically and successively under the effect of their own weight.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the invention.
Fig. I shows a plan view, developed, of the device before winding.
Fig. 2 shows a side view of the device before winding.
Fig. 3 shows a first winding phase of the device.
Fig. 4 illustrates the principle of winding the bands.
Figs. 5 and 6 show the two sides of the device, the bands once rolled up, but the ends of the middle bands not attached to the outer panels.
Figs. 7, 8, 9 and 10 illustrate how to use the device.
Fig. 1 1 represents an example of advertising use.
The device shown in the drawing comprises three equal rectangular panels 1, 2 and 3. The panels 1 and 2 are connected by two bands 4 and 5 and the panels 2 and 3 are connected by two bands 6 and 7.
Between the bands 4 and 5, on the one hand, and the bands 6 and 7, on the other hand, are arranged two bands 8 and 9, in the extension of one another, these bands 8 and 9 n ' being fixed to the middle panel 2, by the side 10, respectively 11, the end of these bands being free to allow them to be wound around the middle panel 2 as described below:
To wind up the bands, the band 8 is first of all folded over the band 9 in the direction indicated by the arrow F1 (FIG. 2), the device then having the appearance shown in FIG. 3.
The strips 8 and 9 are then wound together around the panel 2 in the direction indicated by the arrow F2 (fig. 4), then the strips 4 and 5 are wound around the support I by rotating the support I in the direction indicated by arrow F3, and the bands 6 and 7 are wound around panel 3 by rotating this panel in the direction indicated by arrow F4, that is to say in the same direction as panel 1, while the bands 8 and 9 are wound in the opposite direction around the panel 2.
Once this winding is complete, the three-part device is presented as shown in FIGS. 5 and 6 where we find the points A and B of panels I and 3, and the ends A 'and B' of bands 8 and 9 completely rolled up on panel 2. To complete the device, we fold down and fix the end A 'of strip 9 on panel 1, at A, and likewise, the end B' of strip 8 is folded down and fixed on panel 3, at B. The device is thus finished.
Before winding, the bands 4 to 9 are coated, by all known methods, with texts, numbers, drawings, etc. This coating can be done for example by printing before cutting the strips.
Figs. 7 and 8 illustrate how to obtain different images by transferring the bands from one panel to another. Starting from an image composed of X, as represented in FIG. 7, panel 1 is folded over panel 2 as indicated by arrow F5, and panel 3 is folded over panel 2 as indicated by arrow F6. The three panels are thus stacked one on top of the other. Then the panel 1 is separated from the panel 2 by rotating it around its edge 12, initially the outer edge, as indicated by the arrow F7. The same is done for the panel 3 by rotating it around its edge 13 as indicated by arrow F8. A transfer of the bands from one panel to another is thus obtained by unwinding one of the panels and winding up on the neighboring panel, so that a new image Y appears.
You can repeat the operation until the bands are completely transferred from one panel to another and then you go back.
However, if a panel is rotated twice by 180 in the same direction, for example panel 1 according to arrow F9 (fig. 9), then according to arrow F10 (fig. 10) the three panels 1, 2 and 3 are connected at 14 in the manner of the leaves of a book.
Referring to fig. 1, we can see that it is possible to increase the number of panels, the only condition to be respected being that we have one or more panels similar to the panel 2 to which are attached, by one of their ends , bands similar to bands 8 and 9. It can therefore be seen that the number of panels must be odd and more exactly equal to 2n +1, where n represents an integer. The number of bands such as 8 and 9 can be any, but at least equal to two.
Among the many applications, for example games, catalogs, picture books, screens, interior decorations, advertising leaflets, gadgets, etc., a particularly interesting application of the device is an advertising panel in which the image changes automatically. Such an embodiment is illustrated schematically in FIG. 11. The assembly is in the form of a vertical panel consisting in the illustrated example of seven unit panels or shutters 15, 16, 17,
18, 19, 20 and 21, the assembly being suspended by the upper flap 15 mounted on a shaft 22 rotating in bearings 23 and 24, and driven in rotation, intermittently by a motor 25.
Referring also to Figs. 7 and 8, one realizes that by rotating the shutter 15 of 1800 about its axis, as indicated by the arrow F5 in FIG. 7, so as to fold the panel 16 over the panel 15, the panel 16 is allowed to tilt under the effect of its own weight of 180, which then allows the panel 17 to tilt 180 in the same direction as the panel 15, and so on. Once the bands originally wound on the panel 15 have completely unwound from this panel, it suffices to drive the shaft 22 in the opposite direction to
cause the other panels to tilt in the opposite direction. he
It is easy to cause the automatic reversal of the shaft 22 after a determined number of turns, depending on the number of turns wound around each of the flaps 15 to 21.
