The invention relates to a method for the production of molded bodies from thermoplastic material, the plastic being prepared in a single extrusion press and extruded by means of an extrusion tool, the inner surface of which defines the molded body. The invention also relates to an apparatus for carrying out this method. - Such extrusion is usually referred to as extrusion in practice, the extrusion machines are called extruders.
In the (from practice) known method of the type described, thermoplastic material is used which either does not foam or which is mixed with a chemically acting foaming agent (or blowing agent) and consequently foams into so-called foamed plastic.
In this way, molded bodies can be produced either completely from foamed plastic or completely from unfoamed plastic. but not those with a completely smooth, pore-free to pore-free outer skin and a porous core in the form of extruded solid profiles or hollow profiles.
On the other hand, the practice has long been trying to produce extruded moldings from thermoplastic material that are completely smooth. Pore-free to pore-free outer skin, but have a porous core. The outer skin would function as a shell in the finished molded body in terms of statics and give the molded body special strength.
The invention is based on the object of specifying a method for producing extruded molded bodies made of thermoplastic material that is smooth. have low-pore to pore-free outer skin and porous core. Only a single extrusion machine should be used for the preparation of both the skin material and the core material, so that only plastic that has undergone the same preparation, the same fate, is injected for skin material and core material, and moldings are produced in which skin material is produced and core material are intimately connected to one another.
The invention is also based on the object. specify a device suitable for the process.
The invention relates to a method for producing molded bodies made of thermoplastic material, the plastic material being prepared in a single extrusion press and extruded by means of an extrusion tool.
whose inner surface defines the molded body. The invention consists in that the plastic is broken up on its way between the extrusion machine and the nozzle into two partial flows, one of which is a partial flow of skin material for the molded body to be produced, the other partial flow of which is further conveyed as a partial flow of core material for the molded body to be produced, and the partial flow of core material on its way a foaming agent is added to the extrusion die. The extruded molding or profile can harden in the extrusion tool and / or in a downstream calibration device.
However, it can also be carried out on the free line. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, quantitatively controllable substreams are used, so that the amount of skin material and the amount of core material can be set independently of one another during the production of a specific shaped body. The invention is based on the knowledge that plastic processed in a single extrusion machine can be used for both skin material and core material. if partial flows are formed in the manner described, one of which is mixed with a foaming agent. That does not rule out. that the starting plastic is already mixed with a foaming agent and the core material partial flow is mixed with a foaming agent a second time. Any suitable substance can be used as the foam concentrate.
A conventional gas, for example air, can be used as the foaming agent, which only works by being incorporated into the plastic in the form of bubbles.
However, you can also work with a chemically acting propellant, which forms gas in the plastic through a chemical reaction, and finally you can combine both measures. A quantitative control of the partial flows is no problem using the tools of today's control technology. The control can easily be carried out in such a way that the skin material forms a layer of any desired thickness. In any case, it is advisable to proceed in such a way that the skin material partial flow is guided around the core material partial flow in the form of a hose. In order to create a large surface for the absorption of the foaming agent, it is recommended that the partial flow of core material is also routed as a hose and that the foaming agent is added from the inside of the hose.
The skin material can be pressed against the inner surface of the extrusion die by driving the core material, which has taken up foaming agent and thereby drives. However, the preform can also be inflated, as it were, until the skin material rests against the inner surface of the extrusion tool. In this case, a pressurized gas can be introduced through the nozzle at the same time as the partial flow of core material and the skin material can thereby be inflated until it rests against the inner surface of the mold, with compressed gas bubbles being incorporated into the core material if necessary.
Of particular importance is the fact that the plastic can also be cooled during the extrusion process without difficulty. This measure is of particular importance when it comes to producing molded parts with a relatively thick diameter in the manner described. For this purpose, a coolant is advantageously blown into the interior of the skin material after the skin material has been inflated (and optionally additional core material which lies as a layer on the inflated skin material).
The invention also relates to a device for performing the method described. Based on a device with a single extrusion machine, extrusion head and extrusion tool, the invention is characterized in that a flow branching device with a channel for the skin material partial flow and a channel for the core material flow is arranged between the extrusion machine and extrusion tool in the extrusion head and that the channel for the core material partial flow with a Foam agent feed device is provided. This structure and further advantages of the invention are explained in more detail below with the aid of a drawing which shows only one exemplary embodiment.
It shows in a schematic representation:
1 shows a detail of an axial section through a device for carrying out the method according to the invention,
FIG. 2 shows the object according to FIG. 1 during an extrusion process.
The device shown in the figures is used to produce extruded molded bodies made of thermoplastic material, which have a smooth, pore-free to low-pore outer skin or layer and a porous core. In its basic structure, the device consists initially of a single extrusion machine 1, only a part of which is shown, an extrusion head 2 and an associated extrusion tool 3. In the figures, practically only the front part of the extrusion machine 1 with screw 4 is shown. According to the invention, a flow branching device 5 with a channel 6 for the skin material partial flow and a channel 7 for the core material partial flow is arranged between the extrusion machine 1 and the extrusion tool 3 in the extrusion head 2.
The arrangement is such that the channel 7 for the core material partial flow is provided with a foam agent introduction device 8.
The design of the current branching device 5 is basically arbitrary within the scope of the invention. In the figures, an embodiment has been shown that is characterized by simplicity and functional reliability. This embodiment is characterized in that the branching device 5 consists of a branching housing 9 with an essentially cylindrical bore 10, a mandrel 11 inserted into the cylindrical bore with an annular space spacing, and a flow divider 13 arranged in the annular space 12 with annular gaps 6, 7 on both sides, which is cylindrical is designed, wherein the annular gap between the inner wall of the cylindrical bore 10 and flow divider 13 serves as a channel 6 for the skin material, the annular gap between flow divider 13 and mandrel 11 as a channel 7 for the core material, while both channels 6, 7 are brought together in the spray head 2,
so that in the exiting plastic strand the skin material surrounds the core material in a circumferentially closed manner. Here, the mandrel 11 is provided with the foam agent introduction device 8. The mandrel 11 can be held in the usual way, for. B. with the help of spokes 14 u. Like. Through such a spoke 14, the lines or the bores
15 for the supply of the foaming agent and possibly other material. In the exemplary embodiment and in a preferred embodiment of the invention, the cylindrical bore 10 and / or the mandrel 11 or the flow divider 13 have spacing ribs 16. All components are screwed together and combined as usual, which has not been further elaborated in the drawing. The components can also just be clamped together.
The foam agent introduction device 8 of the mandrel 11 shown in the exemplary embodiment and used in a preferred embodiment of the invention has a central foam agent distribution channel 18 and associated foam agent discharge channels 19 formed by porosity (sintered metal) or holes opening into the surface of the mandrel. In addition, mixing devices can be provided . In addition, a pressurized gas supply line 20, which opens into the extrusion die, can be passed through the foam agent distribution channel 18. In this way, the molding can be inflated, whereby it is of course to be picked up by an outer mold.
The molding can also be cooled, for which a coolant is blown in. The pressurized gas supply line 20 can also be used as a coolant supply line. It can be connected to either a compressed gas source or a coolant source via a valve 21. The arrow
22 points to the source of pressurized gas, arrow 23 to the source of coolant.
In order to control the quantity of skin material on the one hand and core material on the other hand in an extrusion process, the flow divider 13 in the invention is designed at the same time as a control slide for the skin material flow and for the core material flow and for this purpose is provided with closing surfaces 24, which are seated surfaces 25 on the branching housing 9 and / or on the mandrel 11 assigned. The control slide 13 is adjustable via an actuating drive 26 inserted through the branching housing 9, and in the simplest case it is possible to work with a crank pin or an eccentric if the control slide 13 is simultaneously rotatable about its axis.
From a comparative consideration of the figures, it can be seen that the basic structure of the current branching device 5 (apart from inlet lines, channels and the like) is axially symmetrical and is set up coaxially with the extrusion machine 1. - It is within the scope of the invention to provide an extrusion tool 3, which in turn has the mandrel customary for the production of hollow profiles.
