EMI3.1
The subject of the main patent no. 546242 is a process for the production of new dialcohols of the formula
EMI1.1
where Z, and Z2, independently of one another, each represent a nitrogen-free divalent radical, which is necessary to complete a five- or six-membered, optionally further substituted heterocyclic ring, A stands for a divalent aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or araliphatic radical, preferably for an alkylene radical or an alkylene radical interrupted by oxygen atoms, and YX and Y2 each represent the hydrogen atom or the methyl group, characterized in that dinuclear N-heterocyclic compounds of the formula II
EMI1.2
with ethene oxide (ethylene oxide) or propene oxide (propylene oxide) expediently in the presence of a suitable catalyst.
It has now been found that by reacting dinuclear N-heterocyclic compounds of the formula (11) with 1,2-cyclopentene oxide or 1,2-cyclohexene oxide, advantageously in the presence of a suitable catalyst, new dialcohols of the formula 1 '
EMI1.3
wherein Y is the trimethylene or tetramethylene group is obtained.
These can be carried out in one or more stages with an epihalohydrin or 8-methylepihalohydrin, e.g. Epichlorohydrin, B-methylepichlorohydrin or epibromohydrin, can be converted to glycidyl compounds.
The radicals Z1 and Z2 in formula a ') preferably consist only of carbon and hydrogen or of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. You can e.g. a remainder of the formulas
EMI2.1
where R ', R ", R"' and R "" are each independently a hydrogen atom or e.g. may denote an alkyl radical, an alkene radical, a cycloalkyl radical or an optionally substituted phenyl radical.
The addition of the cyclopentene or cyclohexene oxide to the NH groups of the dinuclear N-heterocyclic compounds of the formula (II) can be carried out both in the presence of acidic and alkaline catalysts, with one equivalent of NH group of the dinuclear N-heterocyclic compound of the Formula (11) uses a small excess of equivalent of the oxide.
However, alkaline catalysts such as tetraethylammonium chloride or tertiary amines are preferably used in the preparation of the dialcohols. However, alkali halides such as lithium chloride or sodium chloride can also be used successfully for this addition reaction; it also takes place without catalysts.
The dinuclear N-heterocyclic compounds of the formula (II) used to prepare the new addition products are mainly bis (hydantoin) compounds or bis (dihydro-uracil) compounds in which the two N-heterocyclic rings are connected via an alkylene bridge, e.g. a methylene group which is bonded to an endocyclic nitrogen atom of each of the heterocyclic rings in question are linked to one another.
A first class of such bis (hydantoin) compounds corresponds to the formula III
