The invention relates to a hard metal twist drill for processing workpiece plates made of synthetic resin with glass fabric inlays, in particular copper-clad panels. glass fiber reinforced epoxy hard plates.
The abrasive drill dust from the epoxy resin and the glass fibers especially wears the cutting edges. Cutting edge corners and the bevel cutters of the known hard metal drills and causes a relatively large amount of heat to be generated in the hole in the printed circuit board and thus a deterioration in the hole quality. If the frictional heat is too great, the epoxy resin begins to stick to the hole walls.
Accordingly, it was proposed in German utility model no. 7 116 922 to enlarge the groove cross-section of the drill in its circumferential direction to at least 108, preferably to 117 to 135, to provide the grooves with the largest possible radius of curvature, and to counter the spiral part of the drill from the drill bit to reduce the drill shaft by more than a per thousand.
As a result of the wear of the cutting edges on the front part of the drill and on the chamfers and in particular on the cutting edge corners, the cutting geometry of the drill is no longer correct. The friction when cutting is greatly increased. The glass fibers are pushed away more than cut away. There are impermissible burrs around the hole entry and exit as well as imprecise drill holes.
To protect watch components and other objects. which are exposed to wear by friction, processes for the production of coatings from hard carbides were described in Swiss patents No. 452 205 and No. 455 856. Proposed borides and silicides of metals, which are based on the CVD process (chemical vapor deposition), the reaction being carried out below 900 C and at less than atmospheric pressure.
There was a need for hard metal twist drills with a hard coating. these drills are free from deformations and stresses from heat treatment. The hard metal twist drill according to the invention is intended to meet this need. This is indicated by this. that the cutting edges and the adjacent fluted part of the drill are provided with a hard coating of titanium monoxide.
An exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown in the drawing. Show it:
Fig. 1 is a side view of the drill with the front part.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the front part with the four-surface cut.
The hard metal twist drill shown has two cutting edges 1 and a spiral part 5. The front part of the drill is provided with a four-surface grind with a first clearance angle 3 of 15 degrees and a second clearance angle 4 of 30 degrees per cutting edge 1. The second clearance angle 4 reduces the heat on the front part of the drill and increases the service life of the same.
The cutting edges 1 of the drill and the adjacent spiral part 5 of the same are provided with a hard coating of titanium monoxide. This has a maximum thickness of 1 u. The titanium monoxide layer can be colored red, green or yellow to distinguish the drills.
The drill has no deformations and no material stresses that result from a treatment of over 100 degrees Celsius. The thin coating of only 1 guarantees an intimate connection with the rest of the drill material and therefore makes it extremely resistant to cracks. which can occur as a result of local heating. This is especially important for the cutting edges and cutting edge corners. on the dimensional accuracy of which the tool life of the drill depends.
A coated drill bit 1.09 mm in diameter was used to make 20,000 holes at 40,000 r.p.m. M. drilled without showing any signs of wear.
Only at 30,000 holes with the relatively lower, less favorable number of tours of 20,000 rpm. M. showed wear on the cutting edge corners 2, while with the known hard metal twist drills with only 10,000 holes and the cheapest number of revolutions of 40,000 rpm. M. showed very strong wear and tear on the cutting edges 1.
