La fig. 1 est une vue en perspective du dispositif installé sur un véhicule;
la fig. 2 en est une vue de l'arrière, en élévation;
la fig. 3 en est une vue en plan;

The present invention relates to a towing device for light vehicles, comprising a metal plate fixed horizontally under the frame, behind the front bumper of a vehicle, this metal plate being provided with a tow hook.
If heavy vehicles, such as trucks or other industrial transport vehicles, are normally equipped with a built-in device allowing either to be towed or to tow another vehicle, on the other hand passenger cars are generally without a towing hook facilitating their movement in the event of a breakdown or accident. In such circumstances, these light vehicles are then towed by means of a rope simply attached to an element of their front superstructure, for example the bumper, or even to the end of the side members of their chassis.
While posing problems from a practical point of view, more particularly when this maneuver takes place in the dark, such a means is also not advisable because the rope, under the force of the traction, can damage the part of the bodywork on the body. which it is fixed.
The towing device according to the invention proposes to overcome these drawbacks. For this purpose, it comprises a metal plate fixed horizontally under the frame, behind the front bumper of a vehicle, this metal plate being provided with a towing hook.
In a particular embodiment, the metal plate can be screwed, by means of bolts, to the lower part of the frame members. The tow hook can be welded to said metal plate. It can also be fitted with a device for locking the rope, produced by a pivoting lug acting as a latch.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the towing device according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the device installed on a vehicle;
fig. 2 is a rear view thereof, in elevation;
fig. 3 is a plan view;
fig. 4 is a side view of the tow hook.
Referring to the drawing, a vehicle I is provided with a frame 2 and a front bumper 3. A metal plate 4 is attached to the lower part of the frame 2, behind the front bumper. by means of bolts 5, 6, 7 and 8 corresponding to holes 9, 10. He and 12 drilled in the metal plate and with the same holes drilled in said frame. A tow hook 13 is fixed to the lower part of the metal plate 4, for example by welding. The hook is provided with a locking device comprising a pivoting lug 14 mounted in the opening of the hook and capable of removably holding the tow line or its loop in the hook. The pivoting lug 14 is mounted so that it can only move inside the hook 13.
By installing the towing device according to the invention, the user thus has a simple and inexpensive means, as well as an easy installation, allowing him to have his vehicle towed while avoiding any deterioration due to it. the pulling force of the tow rope.
