B. Baumwolle, Wolle, Celluloseacetate, Polyester, Polyolefine, Polystyrole, Polyvinylchlorid, Polyvinylidenchlorid, Polyvinylalkohol, Polyacrylnitril, Polyacrylate, Polyamide, Polyurethane, Polycarbonate, sogenannte ABS-Harze, d. h.

The present invention relates to a process for the production of oxazolyl derivatives which can be used as optical brighteners for non-textile organic polymeric materials.
The new oxazolyl derivatives obtainable according to the invention correspond to the following general formula:
EMI1.1
wherein the symbols R1 and R2, which are identical or different, represent hydrogen atoms or straight-chain or branched lower alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl radicals, which aryl radicals can be substituted by lower alkyl or alkoxy groups or by halogen atoms, or the symbols R1 and R2 together represent an alkylene group and thus form a ring with the carbon atoms to which they are connected, the radical B represents a divalent group and the radical X an oxazolyl group of the formula:
EMI1.2
wherein R1 and R2 have the above meanings, an aryloxazolyl group of the formula:
EMI1.3
wherein A represents a benzene or naphthalene nucleus which may be substituted by alkyl groups or halogen atoms.
The process according to the invention for the preparation of the oxalolyl derivatives of the formula I consists in that an α-aminoketone of the formula:
EMI1.4
wherein R1 and R2 have the above meanings, with an acid halide of the formula:
EMI1.5
or the formula:
EMI1.6
wherein B and X have the above meanings and Hal represents a halogen atom, reacted in the presence of a base and the acid amide thus obtained of the formula:
EMI1.7
or the formula:
EMI1.8
wherein R1, R2, B and X have the above meanings, subject to ring closure in the presence of a dehydrating agent. Examples of bivalent groups B are:
EMI1.9
EMI2.1
EMI3.1
The present invention will now be explained in more detail with reference to the following description.
In the reaction between the α-aminoketone of the formula V and the acid halide of the formula VI, alkali metal bicarbonates such as. B. sodium bicarbonate or potassium bicarbonate, alkali carbonates, such as. B. sodium carbonate or potassium carbonate, alkali metal hydroxides, such as. B.
Sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide, alkali acetates, such as. B. sodium acetate or potassium acetate, pyridine and the methyl derivatives thereof, and trialkylamines, such as. B. triethylamine use.
Suitable solvents for carrying out a homogeneous reaction are, for example, ethers, such as. B. diethyl ether, tetrahydrofuran or dioxane, pyridine and the methyl derivatives thereof, also aprotic polar solvents, such as. B. dimethylformamide, dimethylacetamide or dimethyl sulfoxide, also inert organic solvents, such as. B.
Benzene, toluene, monochlorobenzene, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride or dichloroethane.
The inactive organic solvents or ethers just mentioned are preferably moistened or mixed with water. In this case the aminoketones exist in an aqueous layer and the acid halides exist in the organic layer. Condensation between these surfaces can occur.
The reaction can be carried out at a temperature in the range from 20 ° C. to 100 ° C. within 30 minutes to 8 hours.
For the ring closure, for example, inorganic acids such as dehydrating agents can be used. B. sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid or tripolyphosphoric acid, phosphorus compounds, such as. B. phosphorus pentoxide, phosphorus pentachloride or phosphorus oxychloride, and sulfur compounds such. B. thionyl chloride or sulfuryl chloride, use.
The reaction takes place easily at a temperature of 100 ° C. or at a lower temperature, taking from 30 minutes to 8 hours.
The oxazolyl derivatives thus obtained are insoluble in water and in organic solvents, such as. B. o-dichlorobenzene or dimethylformamide, soluble. They show very strong fluorescence under a UV lamp or in sunlight.
For the purposes of the present invention, the oxazolyl derivatives of the formula I are extremely valuable as optical brighteners or whiteners for organic polymeric materials, such as. B. cotton, wool, cellulose acetates, polyesters, polyolefins, polystyrenes, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, polyvinyl alcohol, polyacrylonitrile, polyacrylates, polyamides, polyurethanes, polycarbonates, so-called ABS resins, d. H. Terpolymers made from acrylonitrile butadiene and styrene, alkyd resins, phenolic resins or melamine resins. The organic polymeric materials include fibrous materials and plastic plastics. If the said derivatives of the formula I are applied to fibers or textiles made of organic polymeric materials of the type mentioned above, this is preferably done in the form of an aqueous dispersion.
A derivative of the formula I will be dispersed in water and the fibers or textiles will be immersed in the aqueous dispersion obtained and the whole will then be heated. After the treatment (dispersion dyeing method), the derivative of the formula I has penetrated the fibers or the textile materials, whereupon the latter are optically lightened.
The derivatives of the formula I can also be fixed on the fibers or textile materials by the following method (thermosol method):
The fibers or textile materials are immersed in the same aqueous dispersion as in the dispersion dyeing method, whereby they absorb a certain amount of said dispersion, whereupon the material is heated to over 100 ° C after predrying.
In this method, the derivatives of the formula I are either heat-set on the fibers or textiles or introduced into the fibers or textiles.
These application methods can be carried out using additives, such as. B. surface-active agents, carriers, auxiliaries, etc. effectively carry out, where you can also use oxidizing agents or bleaches.
These applications are also effective when combined with other treatments such as: B. resin finishing or dyeing can be combined.
The derivatives of the formula I obtainable according to the invention are extremely heat-resistant and can therefore be incorporated into molten organic polymers which, after spinning, give optically brightened fibers. This method can be called the nozzle dyeing method or the spin dyeing method.
The derivatives of the formula I can also be used for the optical brightening or whitening of plastic materials or resins by techniques known per se, such as. B. Dry mixing, premixing or coating methods, use.
The derivatives of the formula I can be added to a prepolymer alone or together with other additives, an optically brightened polymer being obtained after the polymerization or copolymerization has taken place.
As already mentioned, the derivatives of the formula (I) are particularly suitable as optical brighteners for organic, polymeric materials, it being necessary to use an extremely small amount of these derivatives of the formula (I). For example, amounts of 0.001 to 0.05% by weight of these compounds, based on the organic polymeric material, are usually sufficient to achieve sufficient optical brightening or whitening.
Better results will still be obtained if they are used in larger amounts than those mentioned above.
As already mentioned, the application can be carried out at any time before or after the deformation.
The invention is now illustrated by the following examples. In the examples, the parts are parts by weight and the percentages are percentages by weight. Dimethylformamide is abbreviated by the letters DMF and ethyl alcohol by the letters EtOH.

Example 222
A hot solution containing 31.4 g of 4'-dimethylamino carbonylstilbene-carboxylic acid chloride (melting point 220 to 222 C) and 1200 cm3 of dioxane is added dropwise to a solution containing 14.8 g of a-methyl-a-aminoacetone hydrochloride and 600 cm3 of water, added drop by drop while stirring vigorously.
After this solution has been added, a 10% aqueous sodium acetate solution is added in order to adjust the pH to 7 to 8. The mixture is then heated on the water bath for about an hour and then left to stand. After cooling, the reaction mixture is filtered to separate the precipitate.
The precipitate is washed with a 10% aqueous sodium acetate solution and then with water until the filtrate has become neutral. Then it is dried. In this way 31.2 g of the stilbene derivative of the following formula are obtained:
EMI23.2
This product is obtained in the form of a white, crystalline powder. Yield: 85.6%, melting point 236 to 239 C.
Elemental analysis for C22H24N203:
Calculated: C 72.50 H 6.64 N 7.69%
Found: C 72.47 H 6.65 N 7.81%
36.4 g of the stilbene derivative obtained as described above are dispersed in 300 cm3 of concentrated hydrochloric acid. The mixture is then heated to 80 to 900 ° C. for 2 hours with stirring and then poured into 600 cm3 of ice water. The precipitate formed is separated off by filtration, washed with water until the filtrate has become neutral and finally dried. In this way, 26.0 g of 4'-N, N-dimethylcarbamoyl4- (4,5 -dimethyloxazol -2-yl) stilbene of the formula are obtained:
EMI23.3
in the form of a yellow, crystalline powder, yield: 75%, melting point 258 to 260 ° C. (DMF).
Elemental analysis for C22H22N202:
Calculated: C 76.27 H 6.40 N 8.09%
Found: C 76.30 H 6.37 N 8.01%
The DMF solution of the product obtained shows a blue, strong fluorescence.

Application of the oxazolyl derivatives
Example 270 In a dispersion which is obtained by dispersing 0.025 parts of a new oxazolyl derivative of the formula:
EMI26.2
in 1000 parts of water with 3 parts of Emulgen (trademark of a nonionic surfactant produced by Kao Sekken K.K. in Japan), a polypropylene cloth is immersed at a liquid ratio of 60: 1.
The mixture is then heated to boiling within 30 minutes, whereupon this temperature is maintained for an hour. The dried cloth is then treated for 15 minutes at 90 ° C. with a 3 g / liter aqueous solution of Monogen (trademark of a higher alcohol sulfuric acid ester from Daiichi Kogyo Seiyaku KK in Japan), then washed with water and dried. The dyed cloth was bright In the same way, polyesters, acetates, polyamides etc. colored with oxazolyl derivatives are colored bright white.
Example 271
In an aqueous dispersion, which consists of 0.1 part of an oxazolyl derivative of the formula:
EMI26.3
3 parts of Emulgen (a product from Kao Sekken K.K.
in Japan) and 1000 parts of water, a polyester cloth is immersed. Then the cloth is squeezed out with a mange to obtain a weight increase of 80%, whereupon you pad. The cloth is dried at 60 ° C. and subjected to a thermosol treatment at 200 ° C. for 30 seconds. In this way you get a shiny white cloth with an extremely pleasant appearance. In the same way, acetates, polyethylenes, nylon and the like can be colored bright white with oxazolyl derivatives.
Example 272
0.01% by weight of an oxazolyl derivative of the following formula is added to a polypropylene resin which melts at approximately 250 ° C.
EMI27.1
added, whereupon the mixture is kneaded sufficiently and spun in a manner known per se. In this way, optically white fibers are obtained. On the one hand, 0.5 part of titanium dioxide is added to the above-mentioned melt and the mixture is melted, whereby a melted object is obtained which is extremely white.
In the way mentioned above, extremely white objects are obtained with ABS resins and with polystyrene.
Example 273 0.01 part of an oxazolyl derivative of the formula:
EMI27.2
are sufficiently mixed with 100 parts of soft polyvinyl chloride beads, which contain a plasticizer, a stabilizer and the like, at 150 "C in a mixing roll. The mixture is then brought into a mold, a roll or in an extruder to produce an object of the desired type The objects obtained in this way have an extraordinary transparency.
On the other hand, 1 part of titanium dioxide is added during mixing, whereby an object is obtained which has an extraordinarily high white appearance.
